So I watched the show when it was airing and loved it. I thought it was extremely well done and now that a few years have passed I’ve been craving more. I was thinking of starting the books but not sure if I’d just be re-treading old ground. I heard the show is an excellent adaption of the books so is it still worth reading the books if you’re familiar with all the story beats of the show?

How much does each book differ from the events in the show? I heard some characters were condensed or combined into one for the show but besides that do any events differ? Will there still be surprises reading the book despite knowing what happens? Curious what I should expect and if it’s worth it. I’m not usually one for re-treading material if it doesn’t have enough deviations to feel unique.
