The cinematography of the leftovers inspired me to make this compilation, also using clips from movies. Do you have a favorite shot from the leftovers?

After season one which honestly was kind of hard for me to watch not because it wasn’t entertaining, but because I’ve never watched a show like this before, especially with season one being so different from season two and three, that I know now. It is a lot more dark than what I usually watch, but I think it made me question a lot of things and cherish a lot of things too.

I stuck it out till the end. I actually came to the subreddit after season one because I was so confused with episode one of season two. I got some spoilers that they never explained really explained anything. Lucky, I didn’t get too far deep into it to know what happened in season two or three. And now that I finished the whole thing… I came away with a few things.

For starters the cliché, if you’re willing to take a leap with anything in life, don’t let anything stop you. Emotions are temporary, but people are not at least not their memory. The show doesn’t need to explain the event of everyone disappearing, I know not knowing the answer turned a lot of people away but I think that was the best thing for the show and the characters that the show writers wrote for. I’m so use to shows giving us the answers after a few seasons that the amount of things that happened in the show that didn’t receive answers leaves me uneasy.

I never read the book for reference, but a few things that I am longing to know like, what was the whole point of the GR. Could that guy who hugs people really take away pain? Was everybody just losing their minds and this is everyone’s way of coping? The heart condition Kevin ended up having be the reason why he could die that many times and still come back? Was God real in this show (I don’t understand that whole arc)? I was also kind of disappointed with the way they ended Evie‘s character. At this point I feel like I’m kind of blabbering. I’m sick in bed and I don’t know how to control my emotions right now. I don’t know if that’s normal after watching the show. But I do feel very uneasy at the same time I feel calm.

Watching S3 ep 5 last night and came across this cracker of an error!

I must also say I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the couple of small adaptations of Metallica songs that have slipped in along the way!

On a bad note though, I’ve only got 2 episodes left to watch - any recommendations for my next binge watch? I’m in the UK and have access to Netflix, Prime, Disney+, HBO Max and Paramount+.

At about 4:32 into season 1, ep. 10, Tom and Christine are filmed next to a VERY tall stone and brick wall. It's probably at least 50 feet tall. It looks like it's part of an old fort, or fortification of some kind. I KNOW I've been at that wall, but I can't remember where it is. Can someone identify where that wall is?

In the preview today for GTA 6 the very first song that plays over the logo is "Let Your Love Flow", Matt's song that plays a bunch of times throughout Season 2 Episode 5 "A Room at the Inn". Being included in the first ever official marketing of the biggest entertainment product ever made i'm sure just minted it as a new classic, but any other leftovers fans also get chills when it started up

I’ve seen this show once before a few years back and loved it. recently started it again and wow it hits differently. mainly Kevin.

When I first watched it, it was a fun interesting show. I was in a good place everything was fine. Now? Well mentally not so well haha. like I feel seen more from this show then talking to friends or therapist or family. Trying to hold it all in yet every once in a while they’ll see what’s under and ask are u ok?

i mean im halfway through season 2 and man half the time I want to cry the other half punch something. don’t remember most of the show but excited to see the ending.

last edit - ok I’m done. And idk that last episode filled me with hope. maybe not for my situation that is very much over. Maybe thats what i learned just now. It’s over and I'm ok. Granted did a lot of stupid shit the last few months and the fact I’m still here is honestly impressive. But maybe things will be ok.

Title says it all, I started watching this show recently, and I’m about 3-4 episodes in, and I just haven’t felt the itch to keep going, but I know some shows just take longer to grab you than others. In other cases, I’ve had people recommend shows to me and say “give it x episodes” but I don’t know anyone who has seen this show.

How many episodes did it take for you to get hooked? This show is so highly praised, so I’m sure it is worth it, but I’m just curious when it grabbed other folks.

Edit/update #1 (spoiler free for anyone else reading with the same question): after the vast majority encouraging me to keep going, I went back to the show last night and realized I was wrong, and I had only watched episodes 1 & 2 (I think it just felt like a long time watching to me). So, I watched episode 3 last night and had a completely different experience, as most said, I found the episode to be much more engaging. I didn’t love episode 4, but I started episode 5 (agree with the person who said this, it is a tough opening), and I’m liking it better than 4 so far. Thank you everyone for taking the time to answer my question, I’ll update one more time to mark either how far I get, or if I finish the show!

Just finished the finale last night and was left (predictably) with all the feels. I don't know another show that depicts loss, grief, family, and mental illness in such a powerful and unforgettable way.

As someone with a mental illness (but relatively stable on meds for over a decade) there are so many moments that ring true and hit home.

For someone who lost their dad too soon, there are so many moments of family loss and grief and pain that remind me of that loss and make me reflect on our relationship in new ways.

As a parent of 2 daughters, there are so many parent/child interactions that absolutely break my heart.

In the best way possible, of course. See you again soon, Garveys, Dursts, Murphys, et all.

First of all i cannot imagine that HBO produced this show. Not only is this the worst show HBO produced but also one of the world shows ever made. It is infuriating.

The biggest prank or trolling is the narrative they have built that this show is in the league of the breaking bad, wire or the mad men. I’ll give that to all.

Every single flaw or loophole or character actions (doesnt matter how bizarre or illogical they are) is defended by “you dont understand their grief, the show is layered like an onion.”

I though the first season was bad because it was grim and the story goes nowhere. Oh boy was i for a surprise in season 2. I literally burst out laughing when Megan becomes an evil, cold hearted super boss villain. Go on defend this too.

The tone shift completely, its like watching a different show altogether, the show goes supernatural and breaks the boundaries set in season one. They went from nothing happening to Kevin dying and travelling to another realm twice in like three episodes.

That reminds me of John’s reaction to any stressful situation is to just let his gun talk. Hilarious and so predicable. Lauries character is the single worst character i have ever seen on TV. This character’s motivation, thinking cannot be explained by anything. Its just the writers wrote anything they wanted and called it a day.

Apart from Nora and Matt none of the actors were good enough. Baring a few moments none of the scenes invoke emotion or care for the characters. I felt stupid after falling for the “must watch, so underrated hype”.

I have watched plenty of good shows and a few bad ones as well. This one was not one of the good ones. But kudos to building the narrative on the show, most impressive. Rant over.

Hello, I’m 19, and I grew up watching The Leftovers (2014–2017). I often think about that original era and how meaningful it was to me—following the characters through their stories, struggles, relationships, friendships, and unforgettable moments.

When I watch it now, the episodes are still there, but the feeling is different. The people who created the show have moved on, the original era has ended, and I’ve grown up. Back then, I never imagined that something I loved so much would eventually become part of the past.

It makes me wonder why shows like The Leftovers can’t continue forever with the same characters, cast, creators, and feeling. Why do series end, change, or simply become memories?

Maybe that’s what makes The Leftovers so special. The show didn’t have to last forever for its impact to last. When I return to those episodes, I’m not only remembering Kevin, Nora, Matt, Laurie, Jill, Tommy, and the other characters—I’m remembering who I was when I first watched them.

The original era may be over, but it hasn’t disappeared. It still exists in the memories of everyone who experienced it. I can’t return to that exact time, but I can still appreciate what The Leftovers meant to me.

I just don’t get why it had to end and move on. Does anyone know why The Leftovers had to end?

Forgot how damn funny this show can be, as well as emotionally devastating.

As the title says, I never heard people talking about this show until someone on Reddit recommended it. The story writing and acting have me blown away. The police chief's actor Justin Theroux has me near in tears when he shows a bit of emotion himself.

Apparently it gets better I've heard. Anyway, no spoilers please I just wanted to share my love for this show even at an early stage.

I didn’t really like Lost?

I watched Lost a long time ago and really enjoyed seasons 1, 2 and perhaps 3, but I was completely let down by seasons 4 and 5. I felt as though they were constantly adding new elements to the plot and that, in the end, the vast majority of the mysteries remained unresolved.

Ironically, I watched the first episode of The Leftovers because my all-time favourite series is Twin Peaks season 3 and this series had been recommended to me. You could say that Twin Peaks leaves a lot of things unexplained, but in reality there’s so much that you can understand – or at least interpret in different ways – that you get more out of it with every rewatch, which I didn't felt it was the case with Lost.

So my question is this: will I find some sort of conclusion in this series, or is it really more like Lost, full of mysteries with no real explanations at the end?

Let's be perfectly clear, I’m not here to hate on Lost; I know many people enjoyed it, but personally, I found it frustrating and don't want to invest my time in similar TV experience.

In s1 ep 5 the scene where laurie and patty are in the car ,it clearly looks like that car is going faster when the camera is at laurie and the car is moving slower when camera is at patty

My memory is: Kevin says to Nora something like, "You just love me because I have great taste in music" while the song "You do something to me" by Paul Weller is playing in the background. When I first watched this scene I had never heard the song before, so I shazammed it and added it to a playlist.

BUTTTTT I just finished a rewatch of The Leftovers, and that scene never happens! (I was waiting for it). Is it possible that the scene used to be in the show but was removed??

Then I thought maybe the scene is from another show, but I just did a little search and I've never seen any of the other media that use the song....

They present it as 2% of people disappeared, but if that was accurate, the majority of people would have lost someone who wasn’t very close to them at all - maybe their dentist or a 2nd cousin, etc.

Watching it and seeing how many of the main characters lost someone truly close to them (and treating Nora like an outlier, of course) it just feels like a number larger than 2% feels more believable?

Not trying to nitpick, mostly just wondering if anyone else felt like 1/20 would have been a more believable number based on the way the plot unfolds than 1/50.
