I tried this on my cat and it didn't work. That being said, I have her trained to a certain whistle that I associate with feed time, and because she's portly AF, she comes running..

My daughter carries on conversations with our youngest cat (who is part Siamese and loves to sing the song of her people) and I tell her she's insulting her every time.

Most of these cats looked shocked or annoyed, so... Yeah I don't think you're just saying 'come here'. Maybe something more like 'bring it, bitch.'.

My cat doesn't respond to laser pointers. She just stares at my hand as if saying "I know you're tricking me..."

It's crazy how much they can differ in understanding.

With my cat, she responds to the laser pointer, but if I'm out in the open with it, she sees the "FINGER OF CAT GOD" pointer in my hand and only responds to the source, not the point.

I have to be sneaky about it before she figures it out.

Same thing! My cat is a fucking genius. I have little toys suspended on a fishing line, and she just tries to attack the fishing line. She knows exactly where it’s attached.

Cats don't .. speak in their language. Their language is primarily body and eye language. They have vocal expressions, but the expressions are very generalist and not specific (there's no noise for "come here" but there's a noise for "I'm bored/lonely"). Also... Vocal expressions for cats are somewhat non-reciprocal, if they make a noise for a reason, and you make the noise, the cat won't immediately think its for the same reason.

Anyway, I have two cats. One is an absolute sweetheart and the other one is standoffish and picks random hours in the middle of the night trying to speak English in garbled yowels for no reason.

Aww we have a boy who likes to stay upstairs but will sometimes make this noise if everyone else/the other cats are downstairs. We'll call him and tell him to come down but he just seems to prefer to mrrrrroowww up there most times.

My cats would call me over with a sort of ndat-ndat-ndat-ndat when they found a bug they wanted help hunting. If I do the same noise they run in to join the chase
