Used Car Buying Advice
Hey everyone, I’m looking to buy my first car and could really use some advice from people who know the Thunder Bay used-car market.
My budget is around $10,000, and I’m mainly looking for something reliable that I can keep for several years without constantly worrying about expensive repairs. I’ve been looking at Toyota RAV4s, Honda CR-Vs, and Mazda CX-5s, preferably AWD because of the winters here.
I’ve been checking Facebook Marketplace and contacting dealerships, but I’m finding it surprisingly difficult to find something that seems like a good balance of price, mileage, condition, and reliability. A lot of the cheaper SUVs I’ve come across have significant rust, high mileage, or are from models/brands I’m less confident about.
Since this will be my first car, I’m also leaning toward an SUV rather than a sedan. The street where I live doesn’t always get cleared quickly during heavy snow, so I’m worried about getting stuck, especially since I’ll be driving through the winter.
I’m not necessarily looking for something fancy—I’d honestly be happy with an older, well-maintained vehicle if it’s mechanically solid and likely to be reliable.
For those of you who have bought used cars in Thunder Bay, am I approaching this the wrong way? Are there any dealerships, mechanics, websites, or specific models/years you would recommend looking at? And is a ~$10k budget realistic for what I’m looking for?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

How bad is the trans canada coming from Manitoba
I drove out to BC in May before the fires, but now I see on Google maps multiple wildfires right up to the highway, is it still safe to drive in from the west?

Furnace replacement advice
Looking to get a new furnace or furnace air conditioner. Any pointers? Best places to go look? Who to ask if I have any questions? Coming up on winter and don't want a motor failure like some years ago on my older furnace. Also, might be more fuel efficient.
Thanks in advance...

How necessary is it to get a remote starter in a car in thunder bay? I see most of the cars in here have remote starter installed so I was wondering if I should get one installed in my Car ( VW Jetta 2015 Tdi)? Best place to buy a laptop?
Long story short. My computer is probably about 15 years old or more and it's been getting more slow. I don't know how much longer it might go on so decided to start saving up some money for a laptop (Was starting to for a Switch 2 but this is more important and I'm in no rush to getting the latter).
So I wanted to ask what places here in the city is best to get one and at what lowest prices?

Weekly Sanctimonious Driving Post Thunder Bay Driving Skills
I know everyone has their favourite story about people not knowing not knowing how to function on a roundabout... people who think stopping at a red light before making a right turn is just a suggestion... the thunder bay left turn where you just kind of drift wide into the right lane mid-turn instead of staying in your lane, but now the latest trend I am seeing is at a 4-way stop. Now I know it is hard for some drivers to figure out who goes first... but lately I am seeing that when it is someones turn to go... not only do they go... but the car immediately behind them drives with them through the intersecton like they are tethered to car #1. This was a new one on me, but now I have watched it first hand two days in a row. Something new I guess. Who knew this was an option?

scene Encampments in Thunder Bay - Your Thoughts = Suggestions
With Encampments being somewhat of a situation all over the place in the country. As there are several in this city as well. Yes it is hard to just force someone out as they will just move to another location. What are your thoughts? On Encampments, the situations?
Solutions? Of course a solution is complicated? what could be a few steps to at least make the situation somewhat more tolerable. As there are many "needs" that need to be done for those people as situation can e very complicated?
like to hear your thoughts and ideas?

Recommendations for sympathy flowers in Thunder Bay?
My elderly mother lives out of town and would like to send flowers to a relative in Thunder Bay after the recent passing of their mother.
I’m helping her arrange it. We’re looking for something appropriate for sympathy that can be delivered to their home. She is living on a pension, so ideally something thoughtful and nice without being too expensive.
Any recommendations for a good local florist, or even a particular arrangement or type of flowers you’ve had a good experience with recently?
Thanks in advance!
