hi everyone! looking at an upcoming tokyo trip in october and couldn’t be more excited.

as i’ve started booking hotels though, i’m wondering realistically how much is TOO much to change hotels.

i stayed in tokyo for four months previously (in student accommodations so hotels weren’t an issue!), so i fell in love with a few neighborhoods and want to stay in all of them.

however, this is my first actual “trip” and i’m curious if staying in 4-5 hotels over 14 days would be doable, or just exhausting.

i also have plans to visit kyoto and kawaguchiko, which makes up 2 of those but i don’t want to be overly ambitious and spend my entire trip hauling luggage lol.

My partner and I have a week in Tokyo at the end of October. One thing we really like to do with city travel is get public transport to a neighbourhood and spend a half day or day there, so have a meal, walk in a park if there is one, go to some shops, just hang out and enjoy being on holiday somewhere new. For Tokyo so far I've dropped pins on:

- Kichijōji

- Nakameguro

- Shimokitazawa

Also interested in Kamakura and/or Mt Takao.

We've previously been to Nakano, Ueno, Asakusa, Ginza, Harajuku, love basically all food, craft/ hobby shops, second hand shops generally, small museums with one focus especially.

Where else would you recommend we go?

Ok i got 4 days in Tokyo - 11th Oct to 15th Oct after visiting kyoto and Fuji with family.

I have made some day wise itineraries sharing with you all, need your advice..

Day-1
As i am staying in Asakusa, day 1 i will start with -

Sensoji Temple
Asakusa cruise to Odaiba Island
Kimono dress
Kimone Tea ceremony
Kappabashi street shopping
Nakamise street shopping

Also if time allows, will visit Ueno park and end day at Hoppy street.

Day-2

Kamakura & Enoshima day trip

Day 3

Team lab planets in the morning and then visit Ginza for Uniqlo, Loft and Itoya shopping.

Day 4

I have kept this day for Shibuya - Shinjuku - and Harajuku. day is not planned yet. but will start with Meiji shrine and then visit Shibuya sky, Shibuya crossing in the night. Takeshita street.

Now the confusion starts here -

1. I really wanted to do Asakusa river cruise which ends at Odaiba that really connect well with Team lab planets but i have kept a separate day for that with Ginza shopping.

2. Should i do both Tokyo sky tree and Shibuya sky both, are they worth it? maybe i can do one in day and one in night

3. Am i missing out on anything here, i do not wanted to rush on the 1st day so kept it slow and did teamlabs on 3rd day. Also they Ginza is very crowded for shopping Onitsu tiger and other stuff. Guys need your help to make a semi-perfect itinerary for 4 days

American here. I went to my first international trip to London last year as a beginner's international trip because they speak English there.

I'm leveling up now. Trying to go to Asia solo. Tokyo exactly. The language barrier on Japanese websites make it too hard for me to try to book and research things.

For example, I'm thinking of going to Okutama for some hiking. Many reviews say to rent a car for driving around Okutama. So I go to Google Maps and search for "rental car" in the area. All of the rental car companies' websites are in Japanese. Same thing searching for hotels. How do English speaking foreigners book things?

Same thing with actually driving the car. I watched a video of driving in Japan. I feel so lost watching it. I'm sure the GPS will say "Take a left at (so-and-so) street." But I wont be able to read the Japanese signs.

I'm getting frustrated and lost just sitting at home trying to research things. I can only imagine how lost I will feel if I actually go to Japan not being able to understand anything.

How can I make this a little bit easier?

The difference is 1.5k more for a round trip ticket, I am traveling with 2 kids below 12, I am not a big dude, 5’ 7” , just wondering if the comfort in EP is worth the upgrade. Folks that have traveled to Tokyo on long haul trip from the USA, what are your thoughts?

I had forgotten that my return flight leaves at Haneda and bought round trip N'Ex tickets after arriving at Narita airport. I read on the JR website that unused tickets may be refunded minus processing fees. I went to the JR ticket office in Shibuya and ask, the person didn't sound confident but she said I can only get the refund at Narita airport, which defeats the purpose. I haven't selected the date and seats for my tickets yet, it's valid until Sept 12th. Has anyone been in this situation and gotten a refund for it before?

Every review I’ve read says that reservation for the oyster hotpot is required. I am aware that I can make a reservation at this restaurant via Tabelog but I’m not sure how to indicate that I would like that particular menu item. Has anyone been here and ordered it?

All right - my family is headed to Tokyo over Christmas, we have 14 and 13 year old boys and an 11 year old girl. We land Dec 18 in Narita, and leave for Hakuba where we are snowboarding and spending Christmas from the 21-27 and then come back home on the 29th.

From Dec 18-21 I booked a place near Shibuya. My itinerary is currently pretty simple as family LOVES food and video games, so were based on that.

The current plan in December 18 we check in and go for a local dinner, then the 19th we go to Harajuku - the kids really want a cat cafe, and Shibuya. Then the 20th we go to Nintendo and the Pokeman Center. I'd love to add a temple during this part of the trip of the trip as well but wondering what fits into the areas we are in and keeps the kids interested. I dont want too tight of an itinerary because, well teenagers, but I want to have a clear enough plan that we aren't aimlessly wondering. Is there a Christmas market that we should add in?

The 21st we leave for Hakuba and on the way to Hakuba we were going to stop and see the snow monkeys. Do we need to book this transportation ahead of time?

The 27th we return to Tokyo we were going to take an early train from Hakuba and booked a place on the other side of Tokyo this time near Ueno Park go to Tsukiji, Ginza and then dinner at Ninja Akasaka, would love reviews if anyone has been. Is that too much for one day? I went to Tsukiji 20 years ago when it was a fish market still and know how much has changed, but is going late in the day going to be good or should we switch the market with the last day?

The last day at Akihabara, the kids are stoked for this, and maybe Ueno Park, maybe Tokyo Tower that night?

Would love your input on the obvious misses in the itinerary for my families time and interests!

Looking for some advice on how to get an oversize bag from a Tokyo hotel to Narita. I’m planning on going to NRT via train but the bag (bicycle) is too big and the Limousine Bus service does not look like an option. I thought that I had found a service via Aiporter but they have a 1.8m limit and my bag is well over that.

Anyone got another idea over a very expensive taxi ride?

Hello, we are travelling with my boyfriend for the first time to Japan for 11 days, ✈️flying in and out of** Toky**o.

Tokyo is a huge city and we are deciding if to spend all our days exploring the different districts of Tokyo, OR if to take the Shinkansen to Kyoto + Osaka too.

We are interested in the historical Japanese culture, architecture, animals, parks, but also gaming and modern Japan.

What would you recommend us as a first time visitors?

• Stay in Tokyo and explore it’s districts,
• Visit Tokyo + Kyoto,
• Any other option worth to try?

I'm looking for the kind that has 2-servings in a box. Straight noodle and soup base. I checked the supermarkets already and weren't found.

Will be in Tokyo late October and wondering what are the top sushi spots in Tokyo with a 4* Tabelog rating or above that I can get dine at without being a local or a regular? Staying at Bvlgari hotel but seems like concierges don't have the same power they used to. Would love to dine at Sugita or Amamoto but know thats unrealistic.
