Running the tours is the easy part for me. It's everything that comes after that somehow turns into another full time job. I'm trying to figure out how to promote a tour online without spending every evening making Instagram posts, learning SEO, messing around with ads and wondering whether anyone is actually seeing any of it. I don't mind putting time into marketing but surely there has to be a more sustainable way to get bookings without constantly feeding five different channels.

I've been looking at hotel/guesthouse partnerships, Google, social media and travel marketplaces but I'm curious what actually brings bookings for other operators rather than just clicks and likes.

If you had limited time and had to focus on only one or two channels, what would you choose?

For a small business I'd probably look at how many travelers can discover the experience? The biggest platform isn't necessarily going to be the best fit if the economics or workflow don't work for your business. For operators who've used more than one OTA what made you stay with a particular platform?

Has anyone used the company InnWalking to organize a self-guided inn to inn walking tour in Europe?

I’m a local tour guide running a small tourism business, and honestly, I’m getting a bit frustrated trying to figure out the online side of things.

I’m doing reasonably well through word of mouth and direct clients, but I’m getting almost no bookings through the internet. I have listings on a few platforms, but it feels like my activities aren’t getting enough visibility.

One of my biggest struggles is also getting reviews from clients. Even when guests seem happy with the experience, many of them don’t end up leaving a review, and I know reviews are really important for building trust and improving the ranking of a listing.

A question. About criticism in a profession where lines between personality and job role are blurred.

Tour leaders have bosses. Sometimes we receive criticism. Sometimes it's fair and minor so we move on. But sometimes it's very serious BUT false.

Aside from proving innocence for practical reasons, the trap with our profession is that our personality/character & profession/role are kinda fused into one. So an accusation like "you didn't show up at all and left the guests alone" feels like "I have left an impression that I am the kind of person who'd act that way, especially if taking care of people is my profession and passion... "

That hurts in long-term cooperation especially, and having a spotless track record for years doesn't prevent someone from accepting a client's complaint as proof without even consulting you.

I'm basically in a "how could you think that of me?" indignation and pain phase now. Yeah...

Hi, I work in travel and a client asked for tour recommendations for a europe trip, the kind of thing where they wanted a trusted agency style option with transport, day trips, and a guide who handles the boring stuff.

I sent over three companies I had seen used before, told them one was a safe pick, and said it was the one I would go with for friends. big mistake. Turns out I had mixed up two operators and the one I recommended had a bunch of hidden fees, a terrible cancellation policy, and a guide change problem that nobody mentions until after payment. The client booked it, then emailed me the screenshots but I don’t like this

now I get why people say to check reviews for recent complaints, not just star ratings. I looked at the pretty photos and the big promises and basically ignored the boring details that matter most. They were not rude, which made it worse somehow, just disappointed in that way that makes me want to crawl under my desk :/

I am so embarrassed because this was meant to save them time and instead it turned into a mess. If anyone has a real method for telling which tours are worth recommending, I would love to hear it

I keep seeing advice that once a tour starts doing well, the next step is to add another experience, then another and basically keep building out the catalog.

But I'm starting to wonder... why?

If you have one tour that people genuinely love, gets consistent reviews and still has room for more bookings, wouldn't it make more sense to push that as far as possible before creating five other things to manage?

There's something appealing about becoming known for one really good experience instead of having six average ones with different schedules, guides, meeting points and availability to worry about.

Obviously there's risk in relying on one product, especially with seasonality, but I'm curious how other operators approached this.

If one tour was already working, would you focus on filling more departures and making it even better or start creating new experiences as soon as possible?

Starting to think I've been trying to fix the wrong problem.

People who actually take the tour generally enjoy it. Feedback is good, reviews are positive and there isn't some obvious issue with the experience itself. But online it just isn't getting booked as much as I expected.

My first instinct was to start changing the tour, adding stops, changing the route, throwing in extras etc. But now I'm wondering if I should leave the actual experience alone and focus on how to make the tour more bookable online.

Could something as basic as better photos, a clearer title, explaining exactly what's included or making the description easier to scan genuinely move bookings that much?

One thing I'm slowly realizing is that I probably don't need more people seeing my tour I need the right people seeing it. The experience is pretty specific to one city and it's not something every tourist would be interested in. For a while I thought that was a problem and kept trying to make the listing sound broader but I'm starting to think I was doing the exact opposite of what I should be doing.

I don't need 100k random views. I'd rather reach 500 people who are actually coming here and already interested in this kind of experience.

So for anyone running something local, how are you reaching travelers outside your own network?

Some destinations have hundreds of tours competing for the same travelers. That makes me wonder how to improve tour visibility without paying for advertising. A small local operator obviously can't compete with the marketing budgets of large tour companies. So what can actually make a difference?

I’m hoping to get some advice from people who already run group trips, travel businesses, or work in the travel industry, because I’m trying to work out the best way to take something I’ve already started and turn it into a proper business.

I have a TikTok travel audience and have built a really engaged community around it. I’ve started organising local meet-ups and day trips, and I also currently host group trips through established travel companies. With those, people book their own flights, the operator handles the actual trip, and my costs are covered as the host.

The problem is that my community now wants me to organise my own trips,** **things like Christmas market weekends, city breaks and eventually bigger trips to destinations I know really well.

I know what I want the experience to look like and I’m confident I could create and run the trips, but I’m trying to understand the legal/business structure behind it.

For example, if I wanted to organise a 4-night Christmas markets trip for 12–16 people, I’d want to:
\-Create the itinerary myself
\-Arrange the accommodation, flights, transfers and activities
\-Sell the trip under my own travel brand
\-Personally accompany the group as the trip leader
\-Build the cost of my own flights, accommodation, food etc. into the overall trip price
\-Make a profit from organising and running the trip

Obviously, I can’t just have everyone transfer money to me and start booking packages for them, and I’m aware there are issues around the Package Travel Regulations, ATOL, insurance, holding customer money etc.

What I’m trying to understand is how independent travel businesses actually structure this when they’re starting out.

Also interested in hearing about companies/providers in the UK that offer genuine host/white-label/accredited-body arrangements for independent trip organisers or travel creators.

I’m not looking to cut corners, I want to build this properly from the beginning, but I also don’t want to take on a huge amount of infrastructure before I’ve proven the business model.

Any experiences, warnings, recommendations or things I should be asking potential partners would be hugely appreciated!
