Advice I’m being threatened by a friend who is staying in my home — I need advice

I’m being threatened by a friend who is staying in my home — I need advice

I’m in England and I’m looking for advice about a very difficult situation.

A friend is currently staying at my home. We had an argument and I asked her to leave, but she is still here and is supposed to stay for another five days.
The situation has become serious. She has private photos of me in underwear that I shared with her in the past because I trusted her. She is now threatening to show or send these photos to my husband and my family.
She is also threatening to tell my husband things about my past, including making allegations about work I did in a bar. She knows this information because I trusted her, and she is now using it to intimidate me.

I’m considering contacting the police because I don’t feel comfortable with her staying in my home anymore. I’m particularly concerned about the threats involving the private photos.
I’m also worried because she wants to continue visiting the UK in the future, and I don’t want to do anything that could unnecessarily cause immigration problems for her. At the same time, I feel that I shouldn’t have to accept threats or intimidation just because I once trusted her.
What would you do in this situation? Has anyone in England dealt with threats involving private photos before? Should I contact the police now, even though she hasn’t actually shared the photos yet?
I would really appreciate practical advice, especially from people familiar with UK law.

Advice Is my friend envious of me?

I’ve had a lifelong friend, but really considering just kinda ghosting him. I try not to talk to him much, but everytime I do I notice he kinda irritates me. For a long time, I notice he kinda steals they way I talk. I’ll say certain phrases and say them in conversations. Then, the next time I call him, he takes the exact way I interacted with him awhile ago and applies it to me. I immediately notice and it always sets me off. He always assumes there’s something wrong with me. Even if I say “hey” he’ll respond “Are you okay?” As if I said “hey” depressingly or something. It gets on my nerves all the damn time.

He always wants to know if I’m talking to someone. He always asks if I met a “special lady”, but kinda in a “little bro” way, if you get what I mean. Often, he belittles me, but in a backhanded way. An example from the last time I called him, is he asked if I had a special lady and I told him no, I don’t really talk to people. I’m just minding my own business and working on myself. He replied “Wow, that’s seems like a really lonely way to live”. I was completely taken it back by that because it sounded like he pitied me, even though it was nothing like that and I know I didn’t make that impression by how I said it. He just immediately assumes I’m struggling and wants to “little bro” me a lot. It’s weird. It throws me off and discourages me from wanting to associate with him. I feel bad though because I’ve known him since we were around five years old. We’re reaching our twenties soon.

What do you guys think? Am I overreacting? Why does it bother me so much?

Asking for Advice AITAH for ending the friendship after my friend twisted my words to get what she wanted

I became friends with a new girl in my class (not using real names so let's call her Chloe) because I didn’t want her to feel alone. We grew close really fast, and I genuinely thought I could trust her because she had shared so much with me. Though, she started getting angry at me over tiny things, and I was constantly apologizing even when I didn’t fully understand what I’d done wrong because I liked having someone to talk to. I ignored all of the red flags, like how she was always surrounded by drama and conflicts with others, but I ignored them because I cared about her and didn’t want to lose the friendship.

Months later, when I opened up about feeling uncomfortable around another girl, (we are going to call her Olivia), Chloe completely blew up on me. She dismissed my feelings, called me names, and made me feel stupid for even sharing how I felt. Even after everything, I still apologized and tried to fix things, hoping it would go back to how it used to be when we first met.

Almost a year later, drama, and rumors had won. Olivia twisted my words to convince Chloe I had been talking bad about her, turning a normal conversation we had into me “talking bad about Chloe, and made it seem like I was some untrustworthy person who had been given “too many chances,” even though that wasn’t true at all. It broke my heart, and it hurt more because I had tried so hard to be understanding. Eventually, I blocked both of them because they and their friends were quite literally harassing and bullying me.

Now they’re telling people I blocked them for no reason. Because Chloe is popular, she’s being treated like she did nothing wrong, while I’m being pushed aside and losing friends. I feel heartbroken, embarrassed, and angry at myself for ignoring the red flags and apologizing for things that weren’t my fault. I’m left trying to pick up the pieces and figure out how to move on from friendships that completely broke my trust.

Edit:

This all happened around late September and October last year. I have absolutely reached my breaking point because it seems everyone I approach knows about the situation. I was on my way to class a few weeks ago they were pushing me around and pulling my hair. I continued walking like I didn't care but it's hard to ignore people who are literally pushing you around. I think it's time that I confront or text Chloe because this can't continue to happen. Let me know what the right choice is. I could use some advice; please point out anything I can work on/ do better in a respectful way!

Asking for Advice Am I wrong for being upset that my friends still hangout with this girl who lied about me

I used to be friends with this girl, Kayla, and she was in this friend group that I was in. However, we stopped being friends after something happened between us. It's a long story so I don't want to get into the exact details, but basically, she told all my friends that I did something to make me look like a bad person. The thing is, I didn't actually do what she said. Later, she fully admitted that she had lied about it, she made a stupid excuse, but yet never apologized to me and never took any responsibly for it. This happened a couple of years ago, but I could never look at her the same. And I'm still sour about it. On top of that, I find her really annoying, and very self-centered.

The problem is that a lot of my friends still hangout with her on occasion, despite knowing what happened.

I'm especially close with this girl, Chloe. Chloe has always told me that she doesn't like Kayla and that she doesn't enjoy being around her because of what happened, and the type of person that she is.

Today, I found out that Chloe and another person from our friend group were hanging out with Kayla. I only found out because they posted a photo together. As far as I know, nobody told me they were hanging out, and honestly, it almost seemed like they were trying to keep it a secret.

I know that they're allowed to hang out with whoever they want, and I don't expect everyone to stop being friends with her just because I don't like her. But what bothers me is specifically Chloe. She has repeatedly told me that she doesn't like Kayla, and that she doesn't like being around her. So finding out that she hung out with Kayla without saying anything sort of feels weird, and honestly, kind of hypocritical. Keep in mind, this isn't the first time that Chloe has hung out with her and didn't tell me and I had to find out myself.

Is it bad that I'm upset about this? And what do you guys suggest I do moving forward to deal with this?

Vent Losing hope in female friendships

Just wanted to vent out . I feel so betrayed by my own friends with whom I’ve been friends for ever. I’ve faced backstabbing multiple times by different women I’ve considered true friends just because they are insecure and jealous because I attract attention from guys ( including the ones they wanted or even dated ) and it was 0 percent my fault . I’m very introverted and never seek those guys’ validation. It all happened without my will.

They have gone out of their way to try and ruin my life and relationships like trying to make out with my then bfs , talking complete shit about me to my mom in hopes of destroying my character, and now one of my so called friend whom I know since my 3rd grade and has travelled with me almost my entire life has tried to ruin my marriage behind my back by saying that I’ve been in live-in with my bf and now my parents are considering this as one of the points to deny my marriage with my bf saying I’ve lied and betrayed them by saying I’m staying with my friends in pg. I really don’t know what kind of a person does this and she was one of those person I considered my true friend for many years ignoring many other red flags from her(like trying to flirt with my bf for months) 🤦‍♀️

Just wanted to know if anyone else has faced these kind of backstabbing from friends just because of their jealousy and insecurity, so that I know I’m not alone ❤️‍🩹🫂

Story Need to vent, my close friend cut me off because he got a girlfriend

I just really need to clear my head because this whole thing has been bothering me so much. I had a guy friend for about two or three years and we were super close, like literally talked every single day about everything. A while ago he kind of hinted that he might be getting into a relationship, but I didn't really get what he meant at the time so we just kept talking normally for another couple of weeks.

Then one day I woke up to a message from him saying he's in a relationship now and that we can't really talk anymore. He was like, if you want to send reels once in a while that's fine, but other than that we shouldn't talk. Right after that he removed almost every girl off his account except me and maybe one other person.

I completely get it and I respect his girlfriend's boundaries. She has every right to feel comfortable, and I'm definitely not going to message him or cause any drama. It just hurts that a friendship of years can just end like that in a second. Even our long streaks on tiktok and snapchat are completely gone now. I ended up unfollowing his private account just to step away.

The weird part is after weeks of him completely ignoring everything and not liking any posts, he suddenly saved a streak photo I sent. I really don't get why he would do that after cutting me off.

It's been over a month now with zero contact and I'm still keeping my distance, but I just feel so hurt by how easy it was for him to throw away our friendship.

Story Was this a goodbye letter?

I was in tenth grade, and I had a friend who was supposed to be my best friend, but I’d actually moved on from that a long time ago and was just friends with her—and I’d often hang out with her during breaks because I didn’t have anyone else. Of course, I had other friends, but everyone had already formed their own little cliques. It had been that way for several years, and it would’ve been really weird if I’d just suddenly joined the other group of girls. Because I just didn’t fit in. Anyway, at the end of tenth grade, this girl wrote me a two-page letter. It was full of very deep feelings. Now I wonder—maybe she knew that I didn’t want anything to do with her after tenth grade, and was that a kind of “goodbye” letter? Or did she just want to give me a parting gift but didn’t want to spend any money on me? She actually had another best friend whom she would always put before me. She never said so, but it was obvious to everyone. She wrote a letter to her, too, and apparently that one was very emotional as well. I actually thought I’d done a really good job of pretending to be her friend. But sometimes I lied to myself and pushed aside the things she’d done to me. If she said something I didn't agree with, I usually just kept quiet to avoid arguments or fights. Okay, I think that was too much information. In any case, that was a goodbye letter—did she know what I was planning?

Asking for Advice I (24F) ended a long-term friendship with my best friend (28F) after years of feeling like our friendship had become one-sided. Was I wrong?

I (24F) recently ended a friendship with a 28-year-old woman, let's call her A. I've called her my best friend for many years, mostly because we've been through some traumatic things together. We used to be extremely close and spent a lot of time together.

Things changed when she moved to a nearby city and started dating a wealthy guy. They eventually moved in together at one of her friend's houses. Despite having wealthy parents who gave him everything, he took out loans in her name, physically abused her, and attempted to have non-consensual s** with her. She only told me about this after they broke up. When she left, he prevented her from getting her belongings, so she took him to court.

Around this time, she also started asking me for money repeatedly. When I questioned her about it, she said it was actually her boyfriend using her phone to ask for money and that if he didn't pay it back, it wasn't her responsibility.

After that relationship ended, she started dating an older friend, P (33M), and we became close again because she was living in my city and going through a very difficult time.

Unfortunately, P was also abusive. He beat her several times, once tried to throw her off a balcony, and they constantly had huge arguments. Their neighbors called the police multiple times, which she always dismissed.

She was in a terrible mental state after her previous relationship. She didn't have a job, was afraid to leave the house, and would have panic attacks in crowded places. Eventually, she went to a domestic abuse shelter, although I only found out afterward. She then went back to P because he apologized.

At the same time, I was struggling with my own issues. I had just come out of a severe depression and d**g abuse and was working in an extremely toxic job that consumed most of my time and energy. I didn't have the mental health or resources to help her in the way she needed, and I still feel guilty about that. But I was always there to listen whenever I could.

Once I left my job and was doing somewhat better, we started spending more time together again. However, almost every time we met, she talked about P or her previous relationship. I listened to the same stories repeatedly, including very intimate details. She constantly sent me screenshots of conversations and audio messages and asked me what she should do because she seemed unable to make decisions without someone else's opinion.

I gave her advice about therapy, getting a part-time job so she could become more financially independent, writing things down, meditation, etc. But she usually did the opposite. And I wasn't the only person telling her the same things.

I also tried to get her out of the house whenever I was mentally able to, because I knew otherwise our entire time together would revolve around her relationship. I put my own problems aside because I knew she was struggling.

Two years have now passed, and she's still with P. Whether we see each other several times a week or once a month, our conversations almost always become hours of talking about P, their latest fight, old arguments, screenshots, messages, and what she should do. Eventually, I became exhausted and my advice basically became, "Leave him."

At this point, she has some money of her own and still has her mother's house available if she wants to leave. I understand that leaving an abusive relationship is complicated, but after years of having the same conversations, I reached my limit.

Then my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. A knows this.

After years of feeling like my life was falling apart, I desperately wanted a few days where I could forget about everything and just have fun.

My birthday was August 30, and I planned a short trip to the capital for a couple of nights. I invited A, she agreed, and we planned everything and booked accommodation together.

Three or four days before the trip, she told me P was asking her for money. I told her to be careful not to overspend because I couldn't afford to pay for her expenses as well.

She became very offended. I understand that P has been controlling about money, and I realize my comment may have been insensitive, so I apologized several times and told her I hadn't meant it that way.

She continued arguing about it. I asked her directly whether she was still going on the trip, but she didn't answer.

Then, on my birthday, she started arguing about the money again and said I should have asked her whether I needed to cancel the accommodation. She also said that she had been there for me when I needed her.

That really bothered me because I don't think the situations are comparable.

The last time I genuinely needed her support was last year, when my boyfriend broke up with me a week before my birthday. I was devastated, so I spent that week going out with her and talking about the breakup constantly. I definitely talked about it a lot, but it lasted about a week. Eventually I stopped talking about it, and I don't even bring it up anymore.

I'm not saying she owes me anything because I supported her. Friendships aren't transactional. But there is a difference between needing your best friend's support during a crisis and making the same problem the focus of almost every interaction for years.

I have listened to her relationship problems countless times, tried to give advice, and tried to get her out of the house so she could have a break from it. Meanwhile, I rarely get the opportunity to talk about my own problems.

Even when my mom got cancer, I wasn't asking her to solve anything for me. I just wanted a couple of days where we could have fun together and not talk about P.

Instead, she turned the trip and my birthday into another argument about her relationship and money. She completely ruined what was supposed to be a special day for me.

Now she's posting on Instagram about how I'm immature and a bad friend.

What hurts most is that I spent years supporting her through two abusive relationships, often putting my own problems aside because I knew she was struggling. Yet she rarely asks how I'm doing. And when I finally needed a few days to forget about my own problems, it somehow became another situation where I was expected to focus on hers.

Last year, my boyfriend broke up with me a week before my birthday. This year, I lost my best friend around the same time.

I'm exhausted and heartbroken. I don't regret supporting her, and I don't blame her for being traumatized by what happened to her. But I don't think I can keep being her emotional support system when there's no room for me in the friendship.

Was I wrong for finally reaching my limit?
