First time on a track

Hello there! After a couple of years riding through the mountains, I’ve decided to try my first track experience in Misano, together with some more well-experienced friends.

I’m a bit anxious about riding on a much wider road and having to find completely new reference points. To make things easier, I’ll have a trainer with me during the morning session, so I can get familiar with the track and hopefully enjoy the experience with less panic and more fun.

Do you have any advice you wish someone had given you before your first track day?

I’m currently trying to memorize the track layout and the different corners

Just relax. You know how to ride, and you'll have somebody to follow for the correct line. You'll be super slow but it'll all start to make sense when you're on the track.

Besides the actual riding, make sure you stay really well hydrated. I usually try to snack on small carb-y foods all day rather than eating a big meal in the middle of the day. Bring shade and a chair if you can.

Relax and have fun. That's the biggest thing in my opinion. You will not be be fast and that's okay. Speed will come with time so don't worry about being fast right away. Go for the experience. Look at all the bikes, talk to other riders, absorb it all. Don't take unnecessary risk so you leave the track wanting to do it again and again. Again the main thing is to enjoy yourself.

Sounds like you've made all the right decisions. Just go easy at first, listen to your coach and do not hesitate to ask ANY question. These coaches are usually amazing sources of knowledge.

All I'll add is that as soon as you get out on track the fear will disappear. It's been said a million times but the track is way safer than the street.

And...Misano for the first track day, you're gonna have a blast!

P.S. NEVER ADD LEAN ANGLE AND THROTTLE AT THE SAME TIME 😉

Get a few days of good food and hydration in you before you go. Don’t try to progress too much in the first day. Go out with an attitude to learn and most of all have fun.

You already have the right plan with an instructor. You’ll be fine. It will quickly be your favorite mountain road.

For some reason I’ve noticed that people’s first track day they seem to sometimes have a self imposed speed limit. Open her up on the straights! Instructors are great, go in without an attitude, and just focus on having fun and being safe in the first day, there’s so much info to learn so picking one thing and just focusing on that is a great way to progress. Also hydrate starting today, it’s pretty hard on the body
