Mixed tires safe?

I’ve got an Aprilia rs660. My maintenance guy found a nail in my Diablo rosso 4 rear tire. He told me that it would be fine to place a rosso 2 for the rear despite the front having a rosso 4. Is this safe or should I get get another rosso 4? For context I’m a novice rider and this is one of my first track days and first track day with this specific bike.

As long as the tire is the correct size you don’t have to worry about them matching exactly. The difference between one newer Rosso vs an older design is likely minimal. Just check the date code and make sure the tire isn’t too old.

For your first track day, that'd be fine. Not ideal, but you should not out ride the tire's grip. Depending on how hard you ride your first time out, it may offer more grip than a Rosso 4 would if that isn't ridden hard enough.

Looks like a 2226 so made this year. So I should be good. I’ll keep them on then. I do have the patched old tire but I didn’t want to risk track riding on those. Plan on keeping them as street tires

Staying within manufacturers tends to be fine as the profile of the tire is the same. Examples Michelin has a “V” profile, Pirelli more of a U etc etc
