All the triumph announcements of new models happened to be new paint jobs. Only three new bikes were announced out of all total unveils. ( thruxton/tracker 400 , trident 800) Quite underwhelming tbh considering the hype they created.

u/capt0fchaos Mar 17 '26

Idk, the new Tiger Sport and Trident 660s were worth the announcement, getting the Daytona motor is actually a pretty worthwhile improvement. Also the new street triples are an actual upgrade.

1

u/Adventurous_Ad8593 Mar 18 '26

Well i didn't follow much on the tiger sport. I know about the trident performance upgrades. Though i kept tab on all the new release. The way Triumph hyped it, according to that it felt quite underwhelming. I were expecting a lot many unique elements. Not undermining the mechanical upgrade some bikes received. Just the way they pushed it, it didn't felt like that upon announcement IMO.

2

u/capt0fchaos Mar 18 '26

Yeah, it got a mild electronics update and a new engine. Mechanically a huge upgrade but it wasn't a crazy overhaul or anything. The daytona however is very disappointing, basically all it got it slightly nicer forks, a new dash, some new paint, and some slightly nicer tires.

3

u/ebranscom243 Mar 18 '26

The RXs were more than paint but still very underwhelming.

2

u/Tiny_Leopard_8819 Mar 19 '26

Suzuki does this with GSXR for last 15 years and still gets away with it lol šŸ˜‚

What a fail by Triumph, couldn't even give us preload on the front forks just rebound and compression dampening. How much you want to bet we had a semi adjustable rear shock next year just to keep you updating your bike. I wonder why we sell 10 R7s for every 1 Daytona 660 we sell. The Daytona 660 doesn't have to be at the same level as the old 675 is it too much to ask for decent suspension and a weight loss program. It's stuck in the same sport bike purgatory as the CBR 650 it's either not aggressive enough or not comfortable enough for most buyers.

If they want something aggressive they get an R7 that looks the part, has fully adjustable suspension, real clip-ons and is ready for track days day one.

If they want something comfortable they'll buy a Ninja 650 have all the comfort reliability that ever want and save a couple grand. The Ninja 650 also out sells the Daytona 660 at about a 10 to 1 ratio.

I also don't think there's anything wrong with the engine they're putting in the new Daytona the problem is everything else.

Triumph seems to be making the same mistake with not making a competitor to the Tenere 700. I would love Triumph to make a tiger 660 rally Pro but all I get is a $18,000 tiger 900 RP. We sold a handful of tiger 900 rally Pro so far this year but we're just about through our first 100 Tenere700s for the year and we're going to order more.

It's like they see what's successful and decide to do the opposite.

To your comment on the T7, the old tiger 800xc was the T7 before the T7 and yet they release bike and bike that doesn’t compete with the T7.

Like I am the literal market for the bike, ended up with a bmw because I wanted a more aggressive T7.

Totally agree. I have an older 600 supersport which I will never sell because they truly don't make anything like it anymore.

But I wouldn't hesitate to sell my Striple 675 because I can always buy a 765 which is incrementally better in almost every way.

5

u/ebranscom243 Mar 18 '26

The R7 was designed to essentially be a sv650 track bike you can buy and not have to build. A track prepped sv650 has always been considered one of the best track bikes ever the problem was building one sucked so everybody wanted to be able to just buy one now you can. It's not the bike you buy when you want a super sport it's the bike you buy to learn how to ride a super sport.

Another way to look at is the R7 fills the void left by The disappearance of the 400cc 4 cylinder bikes that were so much fun around the track, they had around 65 to 75 horsepower, the same ergonomics as their larger counterparts and just slightly downspec suspension and brakes.

As far as the name being blasphemous I'm guessing well over 90% of people buying an R7 have no idea what an OWO2 even is. Because it was a super expensive homologation special it wasn't like you could find one at your local Yamaha shop.

So I have no problem with the name as the YZF, CBR, GSXR, and Ninja names all had smaller displacement variants from almost the beginning.

You should let Ducati know that sport bites have to be four cylinders. It's not like they won multiple world championships using higher torque less horsepower twins. And I meant the GSX8r which is a twin there's also the CBR 250 cbr300 and CBR500 which are not 4 cylinders, time goes with the ninja lineup lots of twins there. There's nothing about sport bikes that say they have to have a four-cylinder engine.

2

u/secretaster Mar 18 '26

What was so amazing before? Why does it matter if it's a reskinned mt07? Mt 07 is a great bike I thought? Make it make sense cause I'm not seeing the connection. Frankly I find the Daytona 660 only disappointing because there is nothing new so should've just left it at the previous years model. No need to say all new.

Fair enough I'm just glad they are not carbureted tbh 🤣 but happy to be a new member of this beautiful hobby

3

u/AdOriginal3767 Mar 17 '26

i know this is random but how do you feel about the trident 660? I have a 2022 and was considering updating for 2025 with its updated forks, cc, and quickshifter but now 2026 is even better. Are either of them worth upgrading for

2

u/McMonkies '22 Speed Twin Mar 18 '26

Just get the 800. Upgrade for horsepower is nice, but electrics and refinements are never worth eating depreciating costs on what is essentially still the same bike. If you're barely paying more after selling, go for it.

2

u/ebranscom243 Mar 18 '26

I agree with going with the new 800, the new 660 isn't a big enough improvement to justify the switch but the 800 is.

1

u/jedburghofficial Mar 18 '26

I have a 2007 Daytona. It has fully adjustable front and rear suspension. The series two from 2009 has upgraded high and low speed dampening.

In every respect, this would feel like a step down for me.

-11

u/seeingeyegod Mar 17 '26

why are you so concerned with how many Triumphs are sold? You on commission? Since when does "the most sold" equal the best? If that were the case, a 1987 Ford Tempo must be the best car ever!

14

u/ebranscom243 Mar 17 '26

Yes, I am on commission. I work at a multi-line dealership that sells almost every major brand. But I'm also a fan of the brand, I think most people here are. Sales numbers are an important metric on how healthy the brand is. I would think most Triumph fans want Triumph motorcycles to be successful.

I agree that what sells the most doesn't necessarily mean it's the best but manufacturers need their bikes to sell for the brand to be successful especially entry level bikes like the Daytona 660.

I also think the Daytona might have the best engine in the class and could be successful with a few small tweaks. I hear the complaints from customers and why it doesn't sell and I think this update falls far short of expectations.

Personally I like Triumph, I think they make some great bikes and I want them to be successful. I just think they make some weird decisions that hurt the brand, but I can say that about any manufacturer.

Yamaha not bringing the 900 GP for the tracer 7 to the US bugs me. Honda not bringing the updated CBR600RR to the United States bugs me. Kawasaki not bringing out a competitive middle class twin is a miss I feel.

I wish one of the Japanese brands would bring out a competitor to the ibex 450.

2

u/TomDubber15 Mar 17 '26

As someone who owns an Ibex 450, I second that. Also, nice rebuttal. Well said.

-13

u/SmashedSugar 2001 Speed Triple Mar 17 '26

its a budget bike , what did you really expect? the premium bikes of old are no more

5

u/Troll4ever31 Mar 17 '26

the R7 comes in at the same pricepoint yet it does get the things the Daytona 660 messes up right.

0

u/seeingeyegod Mar 17 '26

yeah like being slower and more uncomfortable

1

u/Troll4ever31 Mar 17 '26 edited Mar 18 '26

The R7 is designed to be a good track bike for regular riders. The power level is more than most riders can utilize properly on the track, and the ergonomics are exactly what you want there.

0

u/ebranscom243 Mar 18 '26

It needs adjustable suspension, and real clip-ons. A good example of a good track bike for regular people would be the RC 390 or the Yamaha R7.

2

u/Troll4ever31 Mar 18 '26

I was talking about the R7 there.

2

u/ebranscom243 Mar 18 '26

Yep, I misread that somehow.

-6

u/SmashedSugar 2001 Speed Triple Mar 17 '26

still a budget bike

4

u/ebranscom243 Mar 17 '26

So you agree it should come with at least what the other bikes in his class come with.

57

u/[deleted] Mar 17 '26

I was expecting at least a 765 engine

20

u/Frenchy-999 Mar 17 '26

I think you are not the only one ...

8

u/Shot_Percentage_2150 Mar 17 '26

Trident 800 but Daytona 600 šŸ’€

3

u/[deleted] Mar 17 '26

Maybe because Trident is bread butter bike

2

u/SonicKiwi123 2025 Speed 400 Mar 18 '26

Trident 800 was born out of the marketing department to appeal to the customer that says:

"Trident 660 doesn't have enough power for me but Street Triple 765 is too sporty and uncomfortable for me. I want a roadster not a streetfighter"

...who would have otherwise switched teams from Triumph to Yamaha to look at the MT-09

It really was/is a pro marketing move as it's the epitome of what is popular and mainstream right now at least here in the US.

38

u/EjectorMark Mar 17 '26

Absolute fail.

Should have been a Daytona 765 or a Tiger Sport 1200.

Better yet, a Daytona/Street Triple 888 RS - which would have brought some serious heat.

Yeah, this was a nothing burger.

5

u/CarlosG0619 Mar 17 '26

I would had folded for a Tiger Sport 1200 ngl, I love my Rally, but as a commuter the 21ā€ front is so overkill

3

u/Kristof1995 Mar 18 '26

god yes. If they announced a Tiger Sport 1200 my Wallet would start itching to trade in my tiger 900 for it :x

2

u/demoNToosh Mar 17 '26

Street triple 888 RS sounds spicy AF.... I would consider getting rid of my 2019 Striple R maybe... Maybe.

1

u/526DBm Mar 17 '26

Street Triple with a Trident engine? Why?

3

u/EjectorMark Mar 17 '26 edited Mar 17 '26

Not the Trident engine - that's a 798cc. I'm talking about the Tiger 900 engine - 888cc triple.

They would need to convert it from a T-plane to Cross-plane crank (like all standard Triples), and race-tune it like the 765. A high-revving 888cc triple.

The 765 is making 128bhp and 59ft/lbs of torque. With the 888cc, they could probably get it up to 140-ish bhp, and 65-ish ft/lbs of torque. It would be pretty frickin' awesome: Street Triple 8 and/or Daytona Triple 8.

2

u/guilelessninja Mar 18 '26

A spicy tuned T-plane does sound intriguing though.

10

u/OldschoolGabber Daytona 660 Mar 17 '26

Wait so this was all that was announced? A new design or what?

3

u/TomDubber15 Mar 17 '26

Colors, minor suspension upgrades and a quick shifter standard. That’s basically it. And the colors got worse, so there’s that, too.

11

u/d1rtyPelican Mar 17 '26

24

And they didn't even update the worst dash in human history... triumph really shit the bed with these "bold new graphics" lineup.

3

1

u/InitiativeHumble6077 Mar 18 '26

Totally agree. I was pretty happy with the spot the Daytona occupies with its comfort and performance but wanted an adjustable suspension, a quick shifter and a full TFT. Less dissapointed than most but dang.

3

u/Vivid_Way_1125 Mar 17 '26

I’m still waiting for a re-run of the sprint

2

u/rugbyj Speed Triple 1200 RS Mar 17 '26

I’d do a backflip live on TV for one and I can’t do a backflip.

1

u/SgtLtDet-FrankDrebin Mar 17 '26

Sprint feels like the last notable multi use bike they put out before the ridiculous list of Tigers in multiple engine/wheel configurations.

Loved the 1200 being dumped in the Bonnie’s though.

3

u/1MarkMarkMark Mar 17 '26

You're really complaining too much. 🤣 If you want a track ready bike, set it up that way. That's what the accessory/performance parts market is for. I personally don't need an adjustable fork for the street, and would not appreciate paying extra for it. Manufacturers realize this. All I had to do is put some Progressive HD 412s on the rear of my Speed Twin 1200 and it rides perfectly for the street. I didn't have to complain about it, I just did it. Part of ownership is tailoring a bike to your personal needs.

2

u/ebranscom243 Mar 18 '26

But part of being a manufacturer is making a bike the public wants so it sells well.

0

u/1MarkMarkMark Mar 18 '26

Nope.

1

u/ebranscom243 Mar 18 '26

What an intelligent and well thought out rebuttal. A bike at the price point of the Daytona 660 should at least come with the same level of suspension as cheaper models in the same class. It's the most expensive motorcycle in its class and the only thing that's got going for it is a wonderful engine. If it continues to sit on sales floors unsold even with high discounts the product will be discontinued sooner than later.

As far as manufacturers producing bikes that people want to buy, why the hell would a manufacturer want to sell motorcycles and do things like stay in business, gain market share, and increase profits?

0

u/1MarkMarkMark Mar 18 '26

Ask their business analysts if you don't believe me.

1

u/ebranscom243 Mar 18 '26

I talk to their customers every day and I know a lot of the reasons why the bike doesn't sell. I talk to the regional rep and explain my concerns, he says it falls on deaf ears. When I have talked to the higher-ups at the immersion events they're very concerned about sales numbers but they seem to have a pretty big disconnect on why certain models remain stagnant. I guarantee you they'd be absolutely positively thrilled if the Daytona 660 started selling at anything close to R7 numbers.

Releasing this big teaser and keeping this release is the final release for the season with a slap in the face to a lot of Triumph customers.

I definitely understand buying the bike and then making it your own but the problem with this bike is it's not getting to the first step so it never gets to the second step of somebody making it their own.

1

u/ebranscom243 Mar 18 '26

But you explain to me real quick why their business analysts don't want to manufacture a bike that sells well.

7

u/USCAV19D Mar 17 '26

God I miss the 675

1

u/ebranscom243 Mar 18 '26

You should have kept buying them, if everyone that says they miss one kept buying them they would probably still be around. Low sales numbers killed it.

5

u/low_bit_logic Mar 17 '26

Am I the only one who digs the Daytona 660?

3

u/HauntingPresence3805 Mar 17 '26

I was a about to ask the same thing. I think it is a great looking bike , near 100hp like 93 . Slightly more comfortable riding position. As a 50 year old I cant fold myself into an Origami animal anymore . Seems like it would be just right . Track with out suspension adjustment yeah I get that . But I really like it. Oh well I love my 650 vstrom too. It’s hideous and boring but it’s the only bike of the 20 I’ve had in the last 12 years that just keeps its homely face around . lol

1

u/ebranscom243 Mar 18 '26

It's close, a few small upgrades and it could be at the top of its class.

3

u/DoctorNoisewaterr Mar 17 '26

Yeah, this is a flop.

3

u/CarlosG0619 Mar 17 '26

Im starting to feel that Triumph secretly hates the Daytona and are doing the bare minimum until people ask for it no more

1

u/Kristof1995 Mar 18 '26

Sportsbikes are dying so I can understand why they dont wana bother.
Why have one if you can have a naked.

4

u/matt_dislikes_injury Mar 17 '26

Laughs in 2008 675. Cries in 'no future for Triumph sports bikes' anymore.

4

u/Healthy_Loan_991 Mar 18 '26

FWIW, once I saw that the Daytona was not going to be significantly improved, I bought a 2026 ST RX today

1

u/PatBateman72 Mar 18 '26

Headed to the dealer in a little to try to finalize on a ST RS. Congrats on your new bike, hope it's awesome. Stay safe.

1

u/PatBateman72 Mar 19 '26

Well nm no RS for me. Went with the ST RX, it's awesome.

8

u/VegaGT-VZ Mar 17 '26

There is no satisfying some of yall

ST765RS is $14K right now, Daytona would be at least $15K; I guarantee if that came out people would be saying "why this when R9 is only $12.5K" even though youre not gonna buy that either. Not to mention if you really want a Daytona 765 you can build one.... I did it for the track, I see tons of 765 conversions there as well; a street legal one with headlights etc isnt that difficult and prob wont cost much more than if Triumph sold it to you.

Daytona 660 is pretty much on the money in its segment.... RS660 has everything everyone wants and costs $2K more.... R7 has better suspension for the $$$ but is down 20-30HP (and IMO is slow at the track, this will be more fun).... Hornet 750 makes the same power for less money but has an even worse suspension and no fairing etc.... if this was a bad deal there would be something better for the $$$, am I missing something.

IME you dont need adjustable suspension for the street, just a sorted one you will never touch unless you do a lot of 2 up riding....... and if you are serious about going to the track youre not buying a brand new bike to do it. Some yall are just talking to talk IMO

2

u/florianw0w Mar 17 '26

765 daytona kit and street legal might be easy in the US but here in the EU? Not even close to possible and if someone made a kit, it would cost easily 2-4k€

R9 has the same frame as the MT09 gen 3 which is super thin and known to break, on top you need to change the brake lines since for whatever retarded reason yamaha didnt use steel braided ones.

I was in the market for around 14-16k€ bikes which the R9,765 RS, tuono v4 and SDR 3.0 fall.

I went with the streety because it was the best bike for money. In my opinion adjustable suspension is one of the most important things.

a real Daytona 765 would probably cost like 18-20k€ since the 765 RS cost already 15k€ and for 18-20k€ I'm not buying a daytona when I can buy a slightly used rsv4/tuono v4 with less than 5k km. Ofc I'm sad about the disappointment of a "Daytona" 660 update, but I can understand Triumph. They obviously want to make as much money as possible and with a Daytona around ~15-16k I dont think they would make a good profit at all.

3

u/ebranscom243 Mar 18 '26

The R9 uses its own frame and the cracked frames are almost 100% caused by cheap frame sliders not applying the correct tq to the motor mounts. The same frame crack is caused on 900 tigers with some of the cheap crash bars. With proper tq on the motor mounts cracked frames are almost non-existent.

1

u/florianw0w Mar 18 '26

was not the only issue with the frame, when you did wheelies and dropped it a bit too hard it could also break. MT09 had a bunch of issues.

What I saw the R9 has a similar thin frame, but I guess time will tell. But I'm happy I went with the 765 RS anyway, it's such a much better and refined bike.

1

u/ebranscom243 Mar 18 '26

Wheelies only did damage if motor/frame mounts weren't torqued correctly.

1

u/florianw0w Mar 18 '26

I read 50/50 about it. But in the end, I dont care anymore. It was one of the many reasons why I sold it.

if I buy a yamaha gain in the future, it will only be a R1

1

u/Polyspecific Mar 19 '26

Hell 14-16K youre at a GSXR 750 and can reach a 1K on budget if you wait for end of year sale.

The 765 competes in the super sport class, the Daytona 660 does not compete in the super sport class if it competes in the same class as bikes like that rs660 gsx8r and R7. It's supposed to compete this year in the "world street bike championships" part of the world superbike championships. Other organizations have classes like "next-gen super sport" where the 660 competes again against the middleweight twins not against full-on super sports.

3

u/aputuremc Mar 17 '26

Just having fun, but as a previous owner of a 2012 675R and now a 2020 765 Moto2, those two highlight years were met with an exit on high notes. Now, the re-entry has been mediocre. Maybe they are building up to something that would have been great to see in all these releases.

Moto2 wet weight est. 412lbs

1

u/NeonGummyBear Daytona 765 Moto2 Mar 17 '26

Under 400lbs if you replace that heavy bread box with a link pipe. While I'm disappointed that triumph never made a proper Daytona again, I'm also glad they didn't because it makes our bike more rare, especially the D765

1

u/_le_slap Daytona 765 Moto2 Mar 18 '26

2

u/wxduff Mar 17 '26

Big sad. Even plopping the 800 mill in the Daytona chassis would have been a better announcement. Then they would be competing with the r9, the new ktm and the likes.

2

AND THE COLORS SUCK TOO

2

u/Welfarebanks Mar 17 '26

I’m not a motorcycle market strategist, but the business model of releasing low spec bikes for sales, and holding off on production of higher specs on purpose to get repeat buys is infuriating as a customer. I really feel like Triumph know what everyone wants and is not delivering on purpose. I’ve been loyal for 15 years but at this point am strongly considering Yamaha.

2

u/Motor-Cut3773 Mar 19 '26

3

u/Parking-Delivery Mar 17 '26

some of us have a broad experience with motorcycles and are aware of the market. with this knowledge it's easy to see how much triumph dropped the ball.

Triumph is trying to stand out and improve their sales figures which have been declining due to a number of issues they and their service departments have caused of their own volition.

they are trying to stand out so they didn't read the market at all, did their own thing, and are surely going to have men in suits that don't understand the market whatsoever arguing about why their sales figures are again not matching their projections over the next 3 quarters.

it's not about being upset over expectations. it's amazement that triumph is continuing to ignore what would actually improve sales figures.

1

u/ebranscom243 Mar 18 '26

Well said.

1

The 660 isn't meant to be in the Daytona 675 super sport class. We just want it to be better in the R7 cbr650 gsx8r ss675 class. My old 675 was gorgeous though.

0

1

u/Turbulent-Suspect-12 2012 Street Triple R, Daytona 675 (SOLD) Mar 17 '26

I fully expected it to be the Daytona 660, but the update itself still disappoints me. It got the quickshifter standard but not the 6 axis IMU nor the cruise control that BOTH the Trident 660 and Tiger Sport 660 get. Arguably, THIS is the 660 that would benefit the most from both.

The Showa forks are pretty good as-is, so I don't mind that much even though they still lack preload. No optional R version still that could do with a power increase to make it more appealing than the RS660 which is amazing.

I actually quite enjoyed my time on the D660, but the standout cons were that it felt notably heavier and it lacked the basic electronics that the other 660s have. Neither of those were fully addressed.Ā

They want a sportbike with fairings that is still comfortable—fine. But triple cylinder aside it's doing NOTHING other competitor's aren't already doing one way or another.Ā

So, this overall launch of 20-something ā€œnew and updatedā€ bikes was a complete waste fulled with bad decisions, increased price points, and overhyped announcements.

Triumph reaffirmed my ongoing strategy of buying used to avoid their overinflated MSRPs and bad model ā€œupdates.ā€

Honestly Triumph need to up their game. They are missing out on a bia area in the market. The true Davtona (the 675R" set such a high bar and still does, this 660 feels like a different category altogether. The Yamaha R9 is close to the 675R/765 Daytona level of sports bike but it makes me wonder if we'll ever see a true supersport Daytona again. Theres definitely a market for a 765, 800, or even a 1200 Davtona (based on the Speed Triple RR). I wish triumph would just commit to it

The 660 is a different category, its the same as the cbr 650 r7 gsx8r category. lots of people love the 675 but the truth is if it sold well it would still be around. Sales never recovered after the 2008 collapse so now triumph is trying to get in the new middle weight class and failing.

Ah the old BNG trick.

Yeah not happy at all, especially with the delay and the buildup. The 660 is a fine bike, but that was a bit of misleading marketing. Very disappointed

This was made for the guys like me. Who wants something just more powerful with a sportier stance than a duke 390. Plastic panels to cover the tube frame are such a trun-off. So far leaning towards CFMOTO 675ss, but would like to checkout Aprilia 660 before pulling a plug.

Triumph need a new model to homologate for the new World Sportsbike category. This will do fine.

I've not paid much attention to the latest release, I am still riding a 2006 Daytona 955i. 70,000 miles and still puts a big smile on my face. For something more modern with lots of tech I ride my 2022 Rocket R3, but I still love to crank my 955i.

All of you saying they want a Daytona 765 or 800 and yet nobody is buying the 765 moto2 and nobody was buying 675 Daytonas either.

They would be 15k+€ bike and would be "too expensive" and no one would buy them. Yamaha is selling the R9 14k€ and it’s already A LOT for a glorified MT09. Can imagine what a Daytona 765 would go for considering a RS starts at 13k€.

Just like the R7 they’ll sell a lot of these to A2 beginners who want "sport bikes" all across Europe.

Not knocking the 660, it’s a good bike, but for some colors, a quick shifter and a fairly minor suspension upgrade to be your LAST announcement of TRIUMPH UNLEASHED! is sooooo underwhelming.

Yeah I totally agree on this. All the announcements have been very underwhelming appart from the trident 800.
