Seeking Does anyone else think Something Was Wrong chapter 2 with season 26 is super caddy and mean?

Ive been listening to it and I get what Allison did was bad, but the way summer and that guy were being fake/2 faced towards her and continuing to engage with her for their own entertainment is extremely disturbing. Any normal person who wasn't mean would just stop replying to Allison and not engage with her and not make her think they were people Allison could talk to. I don't like it at all.

That season was the end for me too. I am still haunted by the story of that poor sweet boy! It was one of the worst things I’ve ever heard. It broke my heart and I still get sick when I think of it.

It also seems to me like the podcast host is egging it on. It’s hard for me to think that Allison’s actions actually had a negative impact on anyone but Allison because it does seem like they were mocking her behind her back for most of it. All it does is make me feel more empathy for Allison. And want to stop listening to the podcast. I hadn’t listened for a few seasons because the host was acting strangely and I see she hasn’t stopped.

yeah the host involvement is what got me too. hard to frame it as a cautionary tale about the subject when you’re clearly getting a kick out of it the whole time. at some point it stops being a podcast about someone’s behavior and starts being about the hosts own weird dynamic with the situation. the empathy shift toward allison is not an accident, the editing basically does it for you whether they intended that or not.

It was all very juvenile

This story is being really oddly told. It sounds more gossipy than the earlier, better seasons.

I agree! I was getting so frustrated with the continued engagement by Summer. At least Dan stopped responding.

Yes!! I was listening last night and thinking why is Summer continuing to be like -Hey girl! I hope you're ok! Lol! I'm so sorry you're going through this! You're so strong! - and then she says how problematic Allison is. Absolutely mean girl shit.

Agree! I had to stop listening to the latest episode. The girl has problems but summer was faking interest then reporting her to the school. Like just stay away instead of constantly engaging. Reading the texts nonstop the whole episode was so boring also. I really wonder if the ending will be all that shocking.

Yes especially the girl. Through the episode, I get passing thoughts like wow this is mean or just ignore her. Seemingly you are continuing the texting for your own entertainment or like watching by a train wreck happen.

I do get the impression that it gets worse? That is how the producers seemingly are justifying the current chapter. Maybe I’m wrong.

Regardless of if the story gets worse, Summer and that guy shouldn't have been engaging with/being fake towards Allison for their own entertainment. Summer constantly sending screenshots to the guy and her own roommates talking shit about Allison but in her text replies to Allison she's pretending to be concerned, caring and like she's a friend. It's so messed up!

Totally agree! I feel like the host is negging them on and setting up it’s ok cause …. I totally don’t agree but that’s the vibe I am getting

I could be wrong but I feel like it probably has a lot to do with their religious culture? They might have the whole “keep sweet” thing where women aren’t supposed to complain or create conflict. Which, in Summer’s case, seems to mean being incredibly two-faced.

That said, I can understand her not knowing what to do with the whole pregnancy hoax and just trying to be vague and supportive. But going along with the drinking thing when it would have been so easy to say she doesn’t normally drink during the school year was bizarre. There’s really no defense for that part.

I’m mostly enjoying the season because I’m always fascinated by these crazy liars, but I totally get why the narrators would turn some people off.

I don’t think they were being rude or mean. I think it is actually smart to continue to engage while distancing yourself especially because they don’t know this person. When interviewing her past roommates, a criminal history of stalking is revealed. And there’s apparently more to the story and the behavior gets worse.

Having had volatile relationships, it’s not wrong to maintain distant contact while gray rocking. The giggles and “can’t believe it” comments are a coping mechanism as a survivor: they are amazed at how anyone could keep this charade going and think it was working on everyone.
