I just got into this show not too long ago, I didn't even know it existed until recently, and I binged the whole show in about 2 weeks. I enjoy it a lot, but I think it's a common consensus that seasons 1-2 are the best, 3 is decent, and 4 and 5 are more on the weak side. While Seasons 4 and 5 aren't bad exactly, they do feel more aimless. I don't care for Princess or Kat, and I hope that if season 6 ends up happening that they move on from Kat. I also hope that Jason and Nikki are written more like how they were in the early seasons. I feel like they are a bit more two dimensional now.

But I personally liked the show even at it's worst, and I wanted to see if there were any aspects of the later seasons that people did enjoy.

I think Scott is an entertaining character, he's objectively really stupid, but I think the actor makes him very endearing, even when he's making horrible decisions. It doesn't surprise me that he played John Cleese in a tv movie, they have very similar vibes. While I didn't really care for how the rowing the Atlantic storyline ended, it did lead to some funny moments, like how he was pretending to be in the shower to make people think he was rowing in a hurricane.

I also enjoy Tyler. I think it's kind of ridiculous how Princess overshadows him, and that their birth mom doesn't seem to care about her son at all, but whenever they show Tyler, he's usually very likable and endearing. The whole thing of him being obsessed with Jellyfish after getting dumped was amusing.

And Vic is probably the best character in the whole show. If there's one thing that I'm grateful for with seasons 4 and 5 is him getting more screen time.

It feels like literally nothing happened and no character developed in a noticeable way. MAYBE Scott? But like... Jason started social work school and then became meh on it. Nikki had a crush that ended. Princess realized her mom is unreliable. Tyler became goth or something. Karen remained a terrible mother. Vic got a business then left it. No lessons were learned.

We could have seen Tyler finally get diagnosed with autism. Jason actually learn more about social work and get experience. Scott commit to something. Karen try to be a better mom. I'm so confused by what this season even did.

I was looking away when Episode 1 ended and when Episode 1 of Trying started, I assumed it was some kind of cold cutaway to another plot. I was waiting the entire episode for this couple to end up getting killed at the very end or something.

I guess I’ll keep watching now..

I’ve noticed the last few episodes have been PG, this feels very strange when the series started off being rated 15. I miss the more adult humour of the earlier seasons.

Best episode of the season. Strong return to form. Funniest and also most heartwarming. I’m assuming it’s a series finale, right? I think they stuck the landing as best as possible given the shift that began in season 4.

Inly Jason, Karen and the grandad are saving me from stop watching for good. Nikki’s character is lost and lacks personality, Princess is annoying as heck, no one gives her discipline and she is a nagging ungrateful person with annoying voice, Scott needs to pretend to be dead for being liked… the main characters are really letting us down because even when disliked they are simply not standing out! for example Karen is supposed to be annoying - but she wears her role so well that we LIKE her. I just find the show is losing its appeal 🫣😢😭

This show just feels like it's coasting now, half-committing to plots before letting them evaporate.

Each episode is basically to be taken individually. Character traits (like Tyler fixating) are introduced for a single episode just so there's something for them to do.

The early seasons were brilliant, but it feels like they have ran out of stories to tell. Scott's story and arc looked to be moving forwards, until... nothing for a couple of episodes?

Hardly seen any of the additional cast this season either. I doubt this goes beyond this season. The energy and drive of the show feels flat. It had a great run.

Did anyone think the ending would be that they actually were invited the whole time and hadn’t needed to be hiding? I feel like that would’ve been a much better plot
Them telling Laurie they happened to book the holiday on the same dates and her saying sorry for not inviting them was.. flat

I know the children's behaviour is amazing in Trying and it is not very realistic but I love this show. It's quirky and feel good. It's funny and endearing and it makes me want to be a better parent. Just like when I watch Bluey with the kids!

From today's episode Are we suppose to think perhaps he's on the spectrum? Is it the start of a new storyline for him potentially?

I really liked that part of the show around their circle of friends, it just 'nice' to have around as security.

I know Ophelia Lovibond got a huge opportunity with Minx on Apple TV and same with Oliver Chris and Rivals but I do hope we will see Erica again and Freddy more frequently.

I just found this subreddit so I wanna ask—I feel like Nikki’s character is making me want to not watch the show? She’s so insecure in her motherhood and her relationship with her daughter it’s irksome she’s constantly so fidgety and weird. For context, I’m on S5.

Princess room is huge in season 5. Where did they magically get more room?

I don't get it? The show is about them becoming parents... they finally become parents and people are saying it's not good anymore? The whole point of the show is to see them as parents? I don't think the writing is bad it's the same humour and jokes.

This episode felt like the earlier seasons of Trying. I’m glad the Kerry plot is over now, it didn’t make any sense to me that Niki would even think of having an affair on Jason. Everything else was wholesome and not extremely overdramatic

Halfway through and I'm hooked!!

The first two seasons of this show were so, so good. The episodes were a great blend of funny, sad, touching. I was recommending to friends and family that they had to watch it. Now I'm almost through season four and I'm not even sure I'm going to continue watching.

If you've ever seen Sian Brooke in "Blue Lights", you will know what a superb actress she is.

However, in Series 5, they've done something to her, and she's become an unbearable panto character. I really can't watch any scene with her.

My spouse and I recently caught up from the middle of last season to the current episodes and WOW what is happening?

• The big one- who could possibly think that Nikki (Jason was complicit too) was justified in lying about finding Kat in the cafe? It's an unjustifiable decision to make for your nearly adult teenager daughter and it's presented as this thing Nikki does out of love.
• Nikki starting a situationship with a guy at work?? Do the writers hate her now?
• Scott chickening out, what a loss. We finally see this guy muster some follow-through and they just undo it the next season. How sad for the character and for the show to step backward like that.
• Lastly, the episode where the family pitches in in their kooky ways to help Princess cheat on her assignments is awful parenting! She learns nothing and they just swoop in to do her coursework— that's the episode.

I really can’t take Nikki; jumping to conclusions and constantly second guessing everyone. I understand why Princess wants to hang w her new bio mom. 😝
