Transfer Orientation

Is orientation really mandatory? Is there any kind of administrative stuff I’d miss that may impact my classes? I’ve already registered for them, and I’ll have paid my tuition by then so I don’t see how it could affect me. Does anyone know if they take attendance? I’d appreciate any answers!!

No, but I went bc they charge us for orientation and I want free stuff lol. I think you could’ve opted out for a refund tho.

They gave a free meal everyday from the food trucks, pretty mid but I am a sucker for free food 😭 other than that it’s just random merch. I missed the opt out deadline so I just decided to go.

Ahhh I see, was the merch on day one or day two? I’m a sucker for free merch but idk if I wanna waste two whole days for it 😭

I do nottt remember ngl. I don’t think it was worth going but it was nice getting to know ppl i guess. Most people left by day 2/3 i think..

In recent years they have been using it as your mandatory counseling that you need to do yearly to enroll in classes. They’ll require you to scan a QR code and sign in with your Davis email to get credit for attendance. If you really don’t wanna go, have someone you know send a picture of the QR code.

But you should go, you payed $500 for it.

In engineering they daily took attendance, but idk for other majors.

TLDR: Go to orientation, you already paid. There’s possible attendance checkers and you can use it as your mandatory counseling.

I’m planning to attend orientation as a transfer student. I heard they put you in small groups with people from your major clusters. For example, I am in cognitive science major, and should be put in people with the yellow cluster which also includes psychology and two other majors.

I’m one of the people who host the tours, show you around, tell you important information… during orientation you’re assigned to a group with 8-10 other transfer students (so you might be able to make friends) and an orientation leader who guides you (all are very friendly and I’ve heard of people becoming long-term friends with them)

So yea while orientation is by no means mandatory it’s more of a chance to network and meet some people before classes/clubs start

I went the first 2 days. By the second day, I left back to my dorm during “lunch” and just never came back. I did my own exploring

it's good for making friends and networking! plus there is free food and merch. not technically required though

100% optional. You can get some free food but most of the stuff was a waste of time
