Hello friends! The SolidWorks Student Leadership Program (SSLP) is hosting its first GBM of the fall semester this Friday, September 4th in the Engineering Atrium! We'll be dropping workshop sign-ups during that time, as well as showing off various programs and projects we've been working on over the summer!

What is the SSLP?

The SSLP is a student organization driven to provide FREE opportunities for ALL CECS STUDENTS to get certified in SolidWorks! We do this through a series of in-person workshops where we teach you everything you need to know about the CAD software. We're incredibly beginner friendly and are big on freshmen involvement.

No dues, no paid material, completely free and open for individual use.

How do I get certified?

After completing the workshop series, you'll then be given a small practice test to exercise that newly acquired knowledge- and if you pass that test, you'll be given your free certification voucher! It's that easy! All of our programs have pass rates upwards of 90%, meaning there's an incredibly low chance that you won't get certified on the first go.

How do I join the Workshops... and what happens if I don't get in?

Workshop sign-ups drop during our GBM this Friday, and are first come first serve. They are highly competitive with limited seating available, so there is a chance you may not get in on the first go! Have no fear, though! We typically host two "waves" of workshops during the fall and spring, so there will be other opportunities in the future.

As well as this, we have a YouTube series for self-study if you want to learn at your own pace. If you complete the same practice test that everyone else does with your self-taught material, you'll still be able to earn your free certification voucher, EZPZ.

Hi this is my first transfer semester @ UCF and currently I have chosen IEEE and Knight Hacks , are these good clubs for career development and projects? Or are there anymore yall can recommend thank you!

Other than "keeping straight As". Advice on keeping As though are welcome, as well as any other advice.

I am a freshmen computer science major, and I am interested in getting into some research opportunities how should I go about finding them?

I’m currently a student in Civil Engineering and my current laptop is starting to lag on me. It’s good for the basic stuff like doing homework and accessing classes but I want to start working on projects especially with software like CAD and so on.

I was looking at laptops with better hardware than usual which included gaming laptops. But there was also the option for a PC. Here are my concerns/opinions:

- Since I already have my laptop, I don’t worry about my projects needing to be portable since I can use the laptop to review or do any studying. I usually study at home and only take my laptop or iPad to the library when I’m reviewing homework or practicing material. I do worry about a possibility of needing something portable later on and am wondering if anyone has encountered that problem with a PC.

- Usually laptops are harder to upgrade with hardware (unless I’m wrong let me know if I am!). I did a bit of research and since I worried a bit about longevity for a laptop vs PC, I saw that with a PC, if it starts to slow down or get old you can just upgrade certain pieces instead of buying a new laptop.

- One of the most annoying things about my laptop right now is that it dies so quickly and I won’t have to deal with that in a PC. Also the constant need to charge is super annoying which I have heard most gaming laptops need.

Overall, I’m mostly leaning towards a PC but I want to know if anyone has both and has experienced better results with a laptop or the opposite. Any tips/experiences are welcome.

I would like to add that I am into gaming and currently have a console but am super interesting in a PC for gaming too so that would be a plus and is making me lean towards a PC more as well.

Been in school for 1 year now and my occupation before I went back to school will help me get an internship or so I’ve been told. Currently in calc 1 (it’s not that bad) and chem 1. Kinda level capped at only doing 2 classes a semester because I got all my aa classes done now I’m just doing my pre reqs. Should I really push for an internship now or wait until I transfer from my community college to ucf? And advice is helpful overall I feel pretty behind life wise because I’m 22 and still in college. This is my current resume to give anyone a idea of where I'm at experience wise. Current GPA is a 3.7 I haven't updated my resume yet. Transferring in fall of 2027.

Hello UCF students,

I am anticipating applying as a transient student at UCF when applications open on florida shines for the spring semester 2027.

I need CNT 4603 as it's offered async and the last remaining class I need to graduate at my home institution.

The online course search says that there are only 220 slots for the class.

I can only apply the Friday at 3pm before classes start.

Are there any IT/CS majors that can tell me if the class fills up quick?

I just need to know if I have to apply to multiple colleges.

I’m a little confused about the prerequisites/corequisites for Junior Design and wanted to see if anyone has dealt with this before.

I’m an Electrical Engineering student and I’m supposed to retake Digital Systems this semester. Because of that, I’m not able to take Embedded Systems this semester.

I was hoping to take Electronics I and Junior Design this semester, and then take Embedded Systems once I’ve completed Digital Systems. However, the flowchart lists Electronics I and Embedded Systems as corequisites for Junior Design, and when I tried to register for Junior Design, myUCF wouldn’t let me because I’m not taking Embedded Systems.

Does anyone know if Junior Design can be taken without Embedded Systems through a corequisite override? Is this a common type of override, or does Embedded Systems absolutely have to be taken at the same time as Junior Design?

I’m really worried about this potentially delaying my graduation, so I’d appreciate any advice from students who have been in a similar situation. Thank you!

Hello everyone!

I would love any feedback on my current Fall 2026 schedule. I know, I know, it's a HEAVY load! But I am a second-degree seeking student and my main goal is to graduate as fast as possible while also maintaining a good GPA.

I have been told that Dynamics and Thermodynamics is a toxic combo, but taking them together right now will save me an entire semester.

So I guess my question is: how doable is this?

I would really appreciate any advice, tips, or professor warnings you guys have! Thanks!

Hi! I’m a current high school senior planning to apply to USC Viterbi.
Most of my extracurriculars are related to robotics and technology. I’ve worked on the electrical side of an FRC team, and I’ve also done projects involving robotics, computer vision/AI, and software. Because my interests are spread across electrical engineering, computer engineering, CS, and robotics, I’m currently deciding between **Computer Engineering and Computer Science (CECS)** and **Undeclared Engineering**.
I have a few questions for current USC/Viterbi students or anyone familiar with admissions:
Is Undeclared Engineering any easier or harder to get into than CECS?
Does applying Undeclared Engineering hurt your application if your extracurriculars already point pretty clearly toward CECS/ECE?
If I enter Viterbi as Undeclared Engineering, how easy is it to declare CECS or ECE later?
Would you recommend applying directly to CECS in my situation, or starting Undeclared?
I’m definitely interested in engineering, so I’m not considering USC’s general undecided option—just Viterbi’s Undeclared Engineering.

Hi everyone,

I'm an incoming freshman majoring in aerospace engineering, and I'm interested in the CWEP programs UCF has. For those who have done it, what do you usually do in the programs? How hands-on is it? Is it worth it?

(I wasn't able to find anything online on the Northrop CWEP, so if someone has more info on that it would be great!)

I plan on applying once my first semester is over, so I can try and get a good chance of getting in sooner)
