Rant/Complaint 2/4 pm enrollment time??

so i'm just confused on how any of this is fair. we haven't even gotten a chance to TRY to get our classes and they're already full? was there no way to stagger seat releases or anything??

it's not about freshmen vs. upperclassmen. it's the fact that this arbitrarily assigned enrollment time is putting us at a disadvantage compared to other people in our grade for no reason. i went to a large high school with self-booking, there had to have been some way to release a certain number of seats for each enrollment time...

the time within your own grade is furthur divided by credit, you just have less unit unfortuately

it's definitely not divided by credit. i think it's randomized or something, cause i counted / checked my credit from aps and cc and i have ~90 units worth of credit with a 2 pm enrollment time. there is no way over 50% of my class has more than 90 units..

Isn’t it units taken at UCSD

Its quarters taken / enrolled at ucsd now w tss 😭😭🥲  Before it wojld count ap /ib + cc credits

Eighth college confirmed that it's random. I mean it makes sense. They haven't even processed by college transcripts, and they barely got APs in time, if at all. So they don't know how much credit each person has

Enrollment times are randomized for incoming freshman. This has been known for a while and has been stated by UCSD.

How would they sort it based off units if they assigned them before they even processed college transcripts and ap scores 😭 according to tritonplan I have 90 credits and my friend has 70 yet I got 2 PM and they got 10 AM

Not for incoming freshmen. It’s randomized for them and has been for years now.

your first quarter is random iirc. Hopefully next quarter is better, gg

Last year, I had a 9pm time slot which was the last time slot for Freshman. I managed to pivot and secure my GE's wheras everyone else went after the Chem, Math, Physic. During 2nd pass, I was able to secure my Math, Chem and Physic (more seats opened during 2nd pass) and now those who needed GE's were screwed because no extra seats open for GE's. :)

So if I was able to get my complete schedule last year with the worst time ever, you too can do it. The key is to be flexible and have a plan B! I did it and it wasn't hard.

Are you… actually a UCSD student? Or perhaps you are international…?

yes im ucsd 3rd year and no not int, ik friends from all uc , they have higher unit faster booking time and its for all 4 classes, the people with no credit have no priority for any of their classes, ucsd is better in that sense

for the same class level I understand some amount of randomization to keep things fair but if you are early Pass 1, then you should be later Pass 2. This isn't even rocket science it's just basic fairness. We did this better at UC Berkeley in ... wait for it . . . 1993. Classes were printed out in a course book and we literally signed up with our touch tone home phones. Still less drama and more organized. Here's a start, how about letting people retake courses they got a 5 in AP years ago and how about transferring classes, credits, and AP credit well in advance of the start of enrollment?

I’ve been trying to book my classes for the past hour and literally every class with a good prof is already full 😭

Do they usually release more seats later, or should I just book whatever is available right now?

Also, quick question: are most of these full seats already taken by upperclassmen?

I haven’t booked a single class yet and I’m starting to feel cooked 💀

u/National_Attention63 7h ago

bro same I havent booked a single class at all what do we even do

6

u/Wide-Ad9790 9h ago

NO LIKE WHAT IS THIS. BRO I CANT TAKE ANY OF MY CLASSES NOW WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO.

1

u/Hot-Nail9282 9h ago

and for the classes that are still available it's literally only the badly rated professors 😭

u/BobGodSlay Computer Engineering (B.S.) 2h ago

some of the best professors I had were badly rated for being challenging.

-1

u/Wide-Ad9790 9h ago

NO BRO FR. The seats for Math 18 ARE ALL FOR THE BADLY RATED PROFESSORS. Might just asw take it 😭

4

u/juliastarrr 8h ago

it's lower div math, everyone is teaching themselves from the book and not going to lecture anyways. All the content should be the same between profs it is not that deep

2

u/AdOnly6617 5h ago

anyone else not taking any major related classes (:

u/imtoolazytopost_ 9h ago

like wtf do u mean math 20c is completely full already

1

u/National_Attention63 7h ago

you tryna make a gc for math20c and comm when they add more seats?

1

u/Mr-Mystery-13 3h ago

Yeah, I’m hoping they add seats

1

u/After_Marketing9254 9h ago

yeah even for the garbage professors 😭

u/ImaginationNo7087 9h ago

FR im going to die. i genuinely don't know how i'll enroll in any classes

u/Thick_Salad_1267 20m ago

like what do u mean i took 17 aps and dual enrollment courses js to get the 2 pm slot.. ive already finished all of my ges except for english and art. i couldn’t get my math course and didn’t get the professor i wanted for english like.. i thought id be getting higher standing bc of all the aps and cc courses i took in high school.. and to make it worse im 2 pm again second pass bc for whatever reason they thought it would be a wonderful idea to let the ppl with bad timings stick w the bad and the good have the good

There is staggering enrollment times starting in August all the way through September your best chance is if you qualify for priority enrollment but not many do

1

u/Salt_Deal7851 7h ago

Is there a way to get priority enrollment? I am not sure if the full classes are booked by upperclassmen or freshmen

1

u/Eastern-Insect-4235 7h ago

Those that get priority enrollment are seniors, those with dependents or kids, and those with certain scholarships they get the very first appointment times but if they are already booked it’s probably filled by upperclassmen or if it’s a stem class or ge all bets are off it could of been filled by anyone cause those classes are just straight harder to get into

1

u/Alternative_Ad6424 6h ago

Do you perchance know, generally, how many people per class have priority enrollment? I'm trying to gauge how much competition I have...
