How was everyone’s first day?
So tired…🥹😅💩
r/UCalgary • u/[deleted] • Feb 20 '24
Im tired of this sub being bombarded with “I got rejected from …..” “what average do I need for…..” “ what grade will they look at…” “ i have a 96 in …. Is that good enough for …..”
Please ask the advisors. We don’t have the answers. You’re about to be an adult and need to know who to ask the right questions. No one goes on here to read your high school marks and let you know if you will get into whatever program. We dont know. We can guess. But the advisors will 100% have more accurate information.
Go on Ucalgary website, go on advising, and find what times they have online advising.
Or email your faculty’s advisors.
For example in engineering its engginfo@ucalgary.ca
Please it will be a win win for everyone if people stopped trying to use this as an academic advisor subreddit.
EDIT: Another redditor in the comments brought up an important point.
“Let me just clarify the Engineering Advisor DO NOT REVEIW High School Admission. Asking them why you didn't get in or waitlisted is a waste of time.
Only the admissions department can answer those questions so please contact them or visit them for advising.
Admission website: https://www.ucalgary.ca/future-students/undergraduate/contact
If you are a transfer student from a different university or different facility and are planning to transfer into Engineering then contact the Engineering Advisors.”
Thanks for the added info!
Best of luck with getting into U of C we are happy to have you!

I’m seeing a lot of posts about people looking for friends. I was wondering if we can just create a group on discord/instagram and maybe plan meetups or things to do (could be anything as random as going for a run lol). If anyone’s interested, please feel free to comment down below or dm me. If I get enough people to sign up, I might create a group on instagram.

I wanted a way to find shared free time with friends without texting back and forth and comparing five different screenshots. I just finished updating CourseCal in time for the new school year! Hope you guys find it useful. https://www.coursecal.com/

hey guys n gals hope everyone's having a good first day/week of uni :))
as the title says, im lookin to meet up with some peeps on campus and hang out! I very intentionally spaced my classes out so that i have 1-2 classes per day only, with lots of dead space in between, usually after 11 AM. i do work mon-fri from 2pm-5pm in Brentwood nearby but id love to make a neat circle of campus friends to chill with with during those gaps.
cause idk if this is relatable but walking out of a class and like everyone heads off to meet their friends, grab food, study together, whatever and im just kinda… wandering campus by myself until i have somewhere else to be lol. i do have a good friend doing her masters rn but she's usually holed up in a lab RIPPP. plus i just transferred to ucalgary from another institution so haven't had a chance to make connections yet, so 🙂↕️ i really like being on campus and exploring, i just think it’d be way nicer having people to randomly text like “where are u rn” and go sit somewhere together for an hour, study, yap wtv. hopefully make plans outside of uni/campus too ~
anyway, a lil about me. im in my 3rd year of majoring in community rehab <3, i drive (though im mostly gonna be using transit), i love video games, drawing digitally, anime and books and a whole slew of topics, from law to psych and philosophy + love talking about shows, movies, etc. anyway, if ur interested in meeting up, dm me or let me know in the comments here!! id love to meet n compare uni schedules
EDIT: lol i just came back from my shift and didn't expect so many responses this is great xD ill try dming everyone tonight, ask for uni schedules n ask for instas, make a group chat on there. lmk in dms if u don't want to be added in the gc, totally cool no pressure to be part of a larger group, if u js wanna be one on one im good like that too

I was passing by international house and found this cute little guy unattended. I didn’t want to take it in case the owner was coming back, but there wasn’t anyone around who seemed to own it. If it’s yours, it’s probably (hopefully) still there!!

Like can I just come in with my backpack or do I have to get a locker?

Hey what’s up everyone. I saw lots of people reaching out hoping to make some friends and so I host these monthly potlucks where uni students can meet new people , and if you’re interested in being added to that group chat feel free to shoot me a dm. Also if anyone just wants to make a friend, and not be added to the gc, also give me a shout ! See y’all!

I recently took ECON 201 in the summer semester with professor Jacob Graham, and this morning when I checked my grades in the student portal my grade for the class was listed as GP with the reason "student under review".
From what I can tell this is for academic misconduct and I am confused as to why as I didn't do anything against the code of conduct (I used my own notes but we were explicitly allowed to) and it was an online class and I'm not sure how they would even flag something like this, the only thing I can maybe think of is writing the tests too quickly.
He wrote an abbouncement on the class page that they do a very in depth investigation into it and thus grades will take longer to publish. Is this normal procedure for him and am I all good with everything or do I potentially have a hearing in front of me? If so, what should I anticipate and how could I prove that I didn't do anything out of the ordinary? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Hi hi! I have a couple too many classes right now and I was thinking of either dropping psyc 385 or soci 311. I love psychology classes but I have seen the reviews and I am scared. On the other hand, I have a psychology minor and would not be able to attend many of the SOCI 311 classes except for the labs. But, I have reviewed the course outline/concepts and I don't think it is anything new. I do have a good understanding of statistics, like the subject, and scored well in my previous classes for psychology stats, but I am not really sure what to do. Has anyone taken either or both of these classes and would be able to provide any guidance or advice?
Thank you 😄

Fellow newbies:
Snap has yet to establish a community for us because there’s not enough demand for it. A community allows us to mutually have a communal story and such, and allows a way to connect with fellow Class of 2030 students.
1) Go to Snap
2) Click on your bitmoji/profile
3) Click “Add College”
4) Select “University of Calgary” and your grad year
5) Verify your student status by entering your UCalgary email
Once it verifies you, we just have to wait till there’s enough demand/verified students, then Snap will make a community.

First time taking classes at UCalgary. When does D2L get updated? I’m registered for 2 classes this semester (double checked I’m registered and the university is certainly charging me fees for them) and still no course outline info in D2L. Is this typical?

Hey guys! I’m a first year Psych student and I’m thinking about only taking 4 courses this semester.
Most likely gonna drop out of my Arts History class love the prof but the content just isn’t for me. Will this negatively impact my credits in the upcoming years?

I’m hesitant to do ENGG 481 this fall because I’ve taken a look at Deanna’s RateMyProf and it says she is really terribly organized and the course has really high grade requirements (95 for an A, 98 for an A+). Is it better to save this course for internship year/other professor rather than doing it with my other classes?

hey yall.
I’m a BHSc biomed major and this fall I have 5 courses. should I drop down to 4 if my schedule feels long? (I want an high gpa). and what class should I drop to take in the spring, CHEM 201 or PHYS 211 (if they’re available)?
