Probation brought forward

I started a new job just less than 2.5 months ago, with 6 months probation. A couple of weeks ago I was sent a mid-probation assessment form which I filled in and have been waiting for my manager to fill as well and schedule a 1:1 to discuss, but it’s also annual appraisal month at the company so she hasn’t had time. Then today my line manager sent me the final probation assessment form to do with a comment that “they want to bring my probation forward. Nothing to worry about, it’s just something they sometimes do.”

It wouldn’t have even occurred to me to worry about it had she not said that! So, do I need to worry? Anyone else had their probation brought forward, and what does that mean? My logical brain is saying it’s fine, if they wanted rid of me they can do that at any point during probation anyway and there’s no need to trigger ending the probation, but then my panic brain thinks they’re going to bin me!

I’m good at my job, but bad at “corporate” so it’s entirely possible that my approach can rub people the wrong way, but I have really been trying to be a bit less… outspoken?

They want to end your probation early. That could be good, that could be bad.
As an optimist they want to tick it off asap so they can include you on the standard appraisal cycle.

Does she maybe mean bring the assessment forward ? Rather than the probation itself ? There's no such thing really. They can end a probation early by passing you early, or fail (= let you go) - so from what you are saying it might just mean they want to bring the discussion forward to maybe not clash with annual appraisals ...

Annual appraisals are now basically done I think, this is the last week before they are then passed for senior manager review I think.

We haven’t even done the mid-probation assessment so if she wants to bring the final assessment forward I don’t really see the point because I can’t comment on achieving any objectives agreed at my first review since that hasn’t happened 😅

Could be good news, or bad, depending on how the company views your performance. I've signed off the probation period months early for people I've hired who have been exceptional. Just a teeny tiny way to show my confidence and commitment to a good employee.

Basically your smashing it so they don't want to pass your probation. Has not happened to me before but has happened to others

Yes you need to worry. With all on her plate she's made time to bring your meeting forward

Doesn’t sound good, in my company if someone is passing it… people just ignore it
