26M looking for advice from anyone who completed their finance bachelors and went on to get a job in the Boston area afterwards.

I know the current job market for new grads is in a rough spot, but do you think that the education you got from UMB put you in good standing in the workforce compared to other Boston schools like BU, NU, or BC?

I am debating trying to transfer in the spring to one of the three I listed above but want to see what the alumni network is for UMB and career opportunities first.

Any advice or experiences you’re willing to share would be great.

Did anyone take Chinese class with Huiying Ma? She required three workbooks; but I was wondering if it’s okay to buy used or new? I’ve never had to buy used workbooks. I was wondering how she does work in her class, whether buying used doesn’t matter because we will work in a separate notebook? Thank you.

Hi everyone! I’m an incoming transfer student at UMass Boston, and I’m a little worried about my enrollment process.
I was accepted and paid my enrollment deposit on August 17. I had been trying to send my official transcript several times before, but I kept running into complications that prevented it from going through. I was finally able to successfully submit my transcript on August 28.
I also signed up for a virtual advising/registration session so I could register for my fall classes, but I never received the link. I tried to sign up again, but now none of the sessions are showing up in my portal. My portal also seems basically empty, and I’m having trouble getting everything set up.
I’m planning to call UMass Boston on Monday to figure everything out. I mainly need to get access to my UMass Boston email/student ID and register for my fall classes.
Has anyone else transferred to UMass Boston and had to finish their enrollment/registration really late in August or even in early September? Were you still able to register for classes and get everything sorted out?
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been in a similar situation because I’m pretty nervous about being this late. Thank you!

I am a commuter and got a 8am on the first day of classes so I want to know where my classes are.

has anyone taken math 140 with Oleg Lazarev?? His class is the only one that fits my schedule fall 26 and the rate my professor isn't really helpful cause the reviews are pretty much 50/50. I have to pass Calc 1 and take calc 2 in the spring semester. I'm not very confident in math so i'm already a bit iffy about taking his class. (Btw took pre-calc in high school ended up with a B-)

also any tips to pass his class would be helpful. Or your experience with him.

I would have taken Jackson Steven's calc 1 class, but they are unfortunately all full and i doubt i'm getting off the waitlist within a week before classes start on 9/8.

Hey guys, has anybody attended the Applied Linguistics program here? Curious to hear about your experiences as I plan to attend next session in January fully online.

I’ve been going by a different name for 5 years now. My parents don’t know about my preferred name because I don’t want to deal with them so I decided not to put down my preferred name when I submitted my application. I was wondering, if I do choose to update my information to my preferred name will the name be shown on any mail I receive from my college? What about emails sent to parents? Will it include my preferred name? Would I have to email my counselor and explain my situation to try keep my preferred name off of anything being sent to my home or my parents?

I’m going into my first year of college in September, I know Umass Boston isn’t greatly known for Business/Accounting but my cousins highly recommended me to stay there for 4 years as I wouldn’t have to pay anything in tuition. My original plan was to stay at Umass Boston for 1 year than transfer over to UMass Amherst, my sister pays I believe around 9k there (dorming + food a semester I believe). Now thinking of the money I wasn’t sure if I wanted to attend anymore as that’s a LOT of money I’d have to pay out of pocket even with help from my mom. I was also looking into Bentley, I got accepted my senior year of high school so I’m confident I’ll get accepted again my 2nd year of college, it’s just I originally had to pay 30k a year and that’s still a lot of money. I believe you’re not required to dorm though so maybe I’ll save a bunch of money from that. But overall what would you guys recommend 😭

I’m planning on transferring to UMass this spring from QC as a Human Services BA major. I was wondering what the average class size looks like? I’m so used to having pretty small classes so i’m a little nervous about attending a larger school. Do you find it easy to connect with your professors and fellow classmates?

Hi everyone, I’m looking for advice from anyone familiar with the UMass Boston Accelerated BSN (ABSN) program.

My partner is planning a career change into nursing. She already has a Bachelor’s in Horticulture (2015) and an MBA in HR (2017), both from India. She has been living in the U.S. for about 5 years and working at Bank of America for the past 2 years. She is currently on a dependent visa.

Since she already has a bachelor's degree, we are considering the ABSN route rather than starting a traditional 4-year BSN.

I’d really appreciate advice on a few questions:

- How early should we apply for the ABSN program, and how far in advance should the prerequisites be completed to avoid missing the earliest available start date?

- What prerequisites are required for the UMass Boston ABSN?

- Can she complete prerequisites at a community college or accredited online school and transfer the credits to UMass Boston (e.g., Bristol Community College or Portage Learning)?

- Are online courses/labs accepted?

- Does she need WES or another evaluation for her Indian bachelor's/MBA transcripts?

- How is tuition/residency status determined for someone living in Massachusetts on a dependent visa?

- Approximately how much did others spend on prerequisites before starting the ABSN?

Our goal is to complete the prerequisites through a more affordable accredited college, transfer them if possible, and then start the full-time ABSN at UMass Boston.

I’d especially appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through this process with a foreign bachelor's degree or has completed the UMass Boston ABSN.

I won’t be able to pay the total cost of housing all at once. I decided to do monthly payments BUT they won’t start charging me till the 1st of September, I got an email saying that they need my housing payment prior to move-in so that I’m permitted to live in the residence hall. Should I be fine?

Do I have to go to the colleage to get my discounted movie tickets or can I do that online?

I'm an off-campus student and was wondering if I should get the meal plan Specifically the dining points plan B or C because I probably won't be eating at the res. Dining hall I don't know if I should have meal swipes, or how many points in comparison to the dollar amount. Would I be saving money if I just bought the meal plan or just skip it all together?

Is it true that I will need to provide my own toilet paper and hand soap if I have a private bathroom? Also, are shower curtains really not provided? What else should I pack so I’m prepared for the school year?
