Announcement r/UNC Mod Recruitment
Hi everyone! It's come to my attention that I'm the last remaining (somewhat) active mod on r/UNC. I graduated in 2024 and have since been busy with medical school (not at UNC), so I would love some help with the sub.
I'll be accepting applications for mods on a rolling basis. You'd be volunteering some time and energy, but the job itself is rather low commitment since we are quite hands-off.
Anyone who is an active member of the sub is encouraged to apply, but I'd prefer students (undergrad and grad) or faculty since they can speak more to the academic experience.
Here's the link if you are interested in applying: https://www.reddit.com/r/UNC/application/
It shouldn't take you more than 10-15 minutes to complete.

Admissions/Application Question act test score?
hi! applying this cycle from a more rural county and UNC is one of my top schools! I'm just wondering if I should submit my ACT score or not!
I got a 31 composite, 25 math (yikes i know), 34 english, 35 reading, 26 science
I'm retaking 1 more time but I really doubt it'll go up. I'm applying as a bio major so it worries me a bit bc of the stem connection ig
Should I still submit? Should I submit only math, english, reading?
- Top 5% of class + decent ec's.

FYI Attacked by homeless man in Carrboro
Hey yall,
Figured I’d post this here to give fair warning to others and talk about what happened this weekend. I was out on Saturday night and walking home with my friend and my girlfriend when a homeless guy came up from behind and bashed me over the head with a car part, and then tried to beat me down with a nasty nose shot. My buddy then tried to step in to help and this guy broke his jaw. He ran when we called the cops but they picked him up and booked him. I had to get staples in the back of my head, and my buddy is still in the hospital today, he had to get two plates put in on his lower jaw, and his jaw will be wired shut for 6 weeks.
The homeless population on Franklin and in Carrboro are not well people. Many of them are sick in the head, and while there are some exceptions, they are dangerous and as happened to me, sometimes you will get attacked unprovoked. Be very careful going out at night, and make sure you are not oblivious to who is around you. I didn’t even know I was being followed until I got hit.
Stay safe out there.

Question Has anyone seen this shirt for sale, or have one they’d sell
Hey yall, not sure if this is not allowed, or weird, but for the past few years I’ve tried to find this shirt on eBay, or Mercari, etc, to no avail. I should’ve picked on up when I saw it years ago! I know Walmart sold them at least 3-4 years ago, and it was Hanes brand. If anyone has seen one for sale, or has one by chance you’d like to sell, please dm me! Again, sorry if not allowed and feel free to remove if necessary

Question CS Clubs
Hi, newbie at UNC here. I have no idea what I'm doing nor anyone to ask, and would love people's perspectives on the best CS clubs to join at UNC. What's AI@UNC, CS x Social Good, etc. been in your experience?
Aligned AI/ML/Computational Science.

Just need to get this off my chest Why are business clubs so hard to join at UNC? (rant)
Why are business clubs like the business frats and the finance/consulting clubs so difficult to join at UNC?
A lot of them have technical interviews quizzing you on how well you know finance or can do a consulting case. And these interviews happen long before you've even taken a single BUSI class even for FBAs. And, that's IF you can even get an interview (which feels hard unless you're a Morehead or well connected with current members).
To make matters worse, many only accept Freshmen and Sophomores, so you're cooked if you don't get in early. It feels like you need to know in high school what you want to do for the rest of your life.
It just really sucks.

Discussion junior [girl] looking for friends
hi guys- I’m a commuter student to branch out more this year and realized there’s no time like the present, so I’m putting myself out there!!
info here is pretty vague but pls message me with an intro if you’d like to hang out!!
major: stem
hobbies: drawing, reading audiobooks, writing random blog posts, doing my makeup, learning about the natural world esp plants and animals, as well as hiking and pilates. I’m also active in a lot of student orgs
personality: very bubbly when it comes to my spirit but also very type A about studying, I love to understand people’s “stories“ and am really good at planning things. I also think I give good advice!!
ideal hangouts: I love anything that has to do with dancing. also would love to try out new cafe spots or honestly just sit and yap in the library 😭 I will also send u hella reels!!!
what makes a good friendship to me:
the #1 thing is equal effort for me!! I hate feeling like I’m ”talking to the wall”.
* I’d prefer female friends but open to meeting anyone!!

Question Is the acronym “UNC” ever pronounced as one word like“uhnk”?
For the acronym “UNC” (University of North Carolina), does anyone ever pronounce it as one word like “uhnk”, or is it always pronounced as separate letters “U-N-C” (yoo-enn-see)?

Question Pool/Billards Club at UNC
Is there a pool club at UNC? Or a team or group that meets regularly or something? I played with my friend at the student union tonight, and we said it'd be fun to join the club, but I can't find anything.

Admissions/Application Question Kenan-Flagler Direct Admission as a Transfer
Hi! I’m currently a freshman at NCSU and hoping to transfer to UNC Chapel Hill for Fall 2027, ideally directly into Kenan-Flagler.
I’ll have over 60 credits by the end of spring semester, this includes the prerequisites for direct admission, which classifies me as a junior. I know which AP/DE credits will transfer, but my main worry is whether my NCSU courses will be counted.
I’ve been trying to cross-reference my courses using UNC’s transfer equivalency database, but some of my courses just don’t show up. I’m assuming that means there’s no direct equivalent and that I wouldn’t receive credit. Just to be sure though, how can I verify to ensure I will be eligible to apply for direct admission?
Additionally, If anyone has transferred directly from NCSU to Kenan-Flagler, please let me know your experience and any advice you might have for me (even if it isn’t relevant to this). Thank you so much :)

Just need to get this off my chest anyone else feel... left out?
freshman here, I feel so lonely. I see all these big groups walking around, and then I'll also see these duos, and it just makes me so sad because I don't have one of those. I haven't been to any parties, haven't gotten any numbers or instagrams, it just feels like I'm the only student like me here. sorry if this is more of a vent but i just feel extremely out of place here compared to back home

FYI OneTouch is Entering Beta - We Want Tarheel Feedback!
Built by Carolina Students, for All Students.
Hey Tarheels, we're a small team of students and recent graduates from UNC, UNCC, and Georgia Tech who saw an opportunity to build something different for college students.
We noticed that platforms like Instagram, Facebook, SnapChat, and many other social media apps have become overloaded with endless feeds, unrelated content, and distractions. College students don't necessarily need another social media feed, they need a better way to find they actually need on campus.
That's why we built OneTouch: a streamlined college-focused platform designed to make it easier to find the people, resources, and experiences that matter to you.
With OneTouch, students can:
- 📅 Find Events - discover what's happening around campus
- 👥 Find & Join Groups - connect with student organizations, clubs, and communities
- 📚 Find Tutors & Study Groups - make your academic life easier to navigate
- 🛍️ Buy & Sell - start your side hustle, sell what you don't need, and save on student essentials
- 💬 Explore College Talk - have meaningful conversations about what's happening on or around campus
- ✉️ Message Students - connect directly with your campus community
- 🤖 Use Caise - an AI campus assistant
- 🔔 Feel Safe with Campus Alerts - student-generated updates to keep everyone safer
- 👤 Browse Student Profiles - create your own campus identity
- 🏅 Create Organization Profiles - lead by example and create multiple profiles tailored to your campus needs
- 🎓 Switch Campuses - seamlessly discover the events, groups, discussions, and entrepreneurs of every campus
We're opening up Beta Testing.
We're looking for students and users alike who are willing to try the app, find the bugs, tell us what sucks, tell us what's missing, and help us make it better.
This isn't the finished product but our goal is simple: less noise, fewer distractions, and a more streamlined way for college students to find what they actually need.
Download OneTouch and become a beta tester!
- Install OneTouch: https://testflight.apple.com/join/rCk8hY2h
- On Create Account, enter the Beta Invite Code: ONETOUCH-Tester-2026-V1
- Use any email to sign-up (does not need to be a student email)
- On Academics, choose UNC Charlotte or UNC Chapel Hill
- Verify your email upon receipt
- Enjoy our app!

Question Pre/Dental Students
Hello! I’m a postbacc student trying to complete my prereqs for dental school. Any predental or dental students know which English class to take as the second semester requirement? I have Engl 105 but I don’t think I have any of classes that meet the writing-intensive category. Is there a way to see if a course is and would PSYC 270 count towards that?
Thank you!

Event on campus Buying 2 tickets to tonight's Morehead's 'Carolina Skies' show
If anyone has two tickets to tonight's Carolina Skies: Lunar Eclipse show, I'd be willing to pay double their price. I told my girlfriend's little brother I would take him to the show and when my initial attempt to pay via the website didn't work, I forgot to follow up.
It's horrendously last minute ask, but I don't want to let the little guy down (any more than I already have).

Admissions/Application Question MyCarolina Portal
Hello! I submitted my transfer application on Friday and I was wondering how or when I get a MyCarolina portal. The website says you can check your status and update your application through it but I haven’t been given any login info.
Thanks!

Other Sublease for 2027 Spring; $862.5/month, 4BR big house with private ba, free full set of furnitures + kitchen wares
Hi! Due to unexpected early graduation decision, I’m trying to sublease my spot in a 4 people house on Bert Street, Carrboro for Spring 2027.
- Rent: $862.5/month
- Utility: $110-130 month depend on the season
- Location: 5min walk to bus station, 10min bus to campus (bus comes every 15-20min); 12min walk from Food Lion, 24min walk from Harris Teeter
Special Bonus: I’m an international student, so I won’t be taking any of my furnitures with me, which means you get a shit ton of free stuff and can move in completely stress free!
I have all the necessary furniture one would need (bed, shelf, cabinet, desk, etc.) and a complete set of kitchen wares (blender, rice cooker, baking set, etc.)
I’d probably end up give you even more free stuff like studying supplies, plushies, art pieces, etc.
(Of course you can throw any of these away if you don’t want them)
Other perks:
- Big bed room (2 times bigger than dorm room), has your own private bathroom
- Has a big basement and big yard, good for parties or study space; everyone has their own parking space
- Very nice roommates, great communicators, respectful of each other, also good yappers if you want to social
- An awesomely cute black cat (roommate’s pet)
This would be a good place for exchange student, someone who studied abroad this semester, or anyone coming to UNC in Jan 2027.
Please DM me or comment below if you are interested, if you know anyone who might be interested, or if you have any questions! I can provide picture or more details, just ask!
