This is one of those assignments where you have a prac, and the report is due the following week; I didn't know anyone in my group, and even though I act like I don't, I actually like getting grouped with new people because I want to make friends, and this prac was actually interesting.

My first red flag should've been that I ended up doing all the Excel work during the prac itself. two members were decent and read values off the instruments for me to enter, two more just sat there and did basically nothing, and when I tried to get the last one involved by asking him to look up the interpolation formula we needed, he wanted me to just ask AI to do it, so I gave up and googled it myself. Everyone seemed keen to get it done early, so much so I pushed our own self-set deadline back and said Sunday was fine; I emailed everyone the Excel file, confirmed they all had it, and set up a Google Drive on the train home.

Over the rest of that week and weekend I did basically all the Excel work barring one final task, the intro (won't pretend that one was hard), 1 of the 2 main body sections and unofficially the results sections. I started getting stressed, because from Thursday to Sunday only one group member had done anything, and all they'd done was recreate what I already had in the Excel via code, plus that one final bit which I appreciated. Except their outputs had errors mine didn't. Then yesterday I finally saw other people "doing stuff" in the doc and felt a bit guilty. Until I actually looked at what they'd done: The code guy had just fixed their code to match what I'd already had in Excel days earlier, someone else had literally copied a table of data straight out of my Excel, and on top of that someone left a comment on my uncertainty section telling me to "talk about xyz". which I admit was a good point, and I have done it, but for ffs, whoever they are, there's no way they've done enough work to be leaving me comments.

It baffles me how these people have managed to get to 3rd year engineering with this work ethic or lack of.

Actual Question:

Long ass context out the way, something else that happened is on blackboard I was assigned to the wrong inter-prac prac group and had to get this fixed over email. I took this opportunity to drop in a quick note about how it'd be helpful to send them a message over blackboard which I did on Sunday pretty much asking if anyone had plans to work on it attempting to not be too harsh, I got one reply from someone who said they'd work on it today so we'll see ig. Do I even bother sending a follow up?

I am wondering what the procedure is like for this. I am definitely afraid of conflict and am unsure if this kind thing is more trouble than it's worth. Also for reference this report is worth 16% of our final grade and with a 60% final I can't afford to lose the marks. It's due Thursday and guess I'll just be doing the remained of the report tomorrow?? This is all done on a google drive so I am probably able to prove my situation relatively easily as just going through what 'all anonymous users' have done reveals not fucking much, but again potentially more trouble than I want to handle at the moment.

I also think I need to make transferring out of this prac group a priority as there are 2 more in the rest of the sem with group reports, although these reports seem to be smaller.

Got a parking fine today for exceeding the 2-hour St Lucia Traffic Area parking limit on a residential street. I have been parking for free on residential streets in the area for over 3 years, almost always for more than 2 hours, and have never once copped a fine for it. Did I just get unlucky today or have the council actually started enforcing it?

i received an outcome to my application today and was waitlisted from st johns. does being waitlisted mean i should just give up hope, or do i still have a chance of getting in? I'm from Sydney and I plan to go to UQ next year, and was really hoping to get a spot at a residential college

Aside from the obvious ones, what might some other benefits to this idea be?
Here's some of mine:

- Encourage students to pay attention to their surroundings (important for earth science, humanities, literature)

- Improved funding for UQ clubs (captured students would forfeit their valuables)

- Improved global interest in UQ (everybody will want to see them for themselves, and also get captured by one)

- Protect the campus from sea bats (self explanatory)

Clearly this idea has benefits across a range of areas. What do we think?

Why is the midsem break consistently SO late in semester two? it’s actually reasonable during first sem, thankfully, but the ridiculously late break has to have negative impacts on students motivation levels? surely? it’s not just me right!?

I saw an older post saying it’s to line up with highschool holidays but… why… they already use our libraries, why are we lining up with their holidays!? For teaching staff sake maybe? But even so, couldn’t we have a longer mid-year break, start and finish later, and have the break actually be in the middle!?

i wake up at 7am as a 3rd year student, drive in peak hour traffic, takes me about 50 minutes buy a $7 merlo coffee, sit in the great court sun for 30 minutes, pretend to study in the duhig library for 6 hours, maybe buy a 2nd $7 merlo coffee, sit at and watch the sunset if i stay for long enough, drive home in peak hour traffic do actual studying at 9pm at my home. is this peak? the streets are saying yes. i love the university of queensland, st lucia, campus. maybe i will do honours, to buy more $7 merlo coffees without getting a merlo card...

Rant:

Like, I went in there, pre-booked 20 times and 15/20 times, someone was already in the cubicle and refused to go.

So I have given up on booking for cubicles in general and just go to an empty one.

And today, for the first time ever, someone asked me to move my set up because they booked it.

I obliged. But still kinda mad about it. Like, why can't we just agree on something for once (i.e: should cubicles continue to be a booking thing or first come first serve?)

Do note that cubicles ≠ exam booths.

My vote goes to Michie. I swear that building has hidden half-floors and stairwells that lead into alternative dimensions. You try to find room 204 and end up outside on a balcony overlooking the Great Court with zero clue how you got there.

Hi! Does anyone know if UQ has a photography studio or any space that students can use for taking product/object photos?

I have an assignment where I need to take some clean display photos of an object, so I’m looking for somewhere that ideally has photography lighting and/or a white backdrop.

It doesn’t need to be a professional studio — just somewhere on campus where I can get decent lighting and a plain background would be great.

Does anyone know if there’s anything like this available to students, or which faculty/library I should ask?

Hello! I need help creating a free body diagram for a gym exercise. Does anyone tutor biomechanics?

Theres obviously various components like screws and shi in the general workshop and random electrical stuff i.e resistors/wires more in the uq innovate electrical lab. What are the rules or what is the consensus regarding using the stuff there, can you take whatever you want as long as its not not crazy quantities for both workshops? Do you have to pay? Tis not really listed anywhere online so im asking.
