I would like to run macOS in UTM on a macOS machine. The purpose is to run VSCode and OpenCode on the guest and MLX server on the host. That way, MLX runs native on Metal while the coding agent is isolated from the host.

I have this working just fine. But I want to ensure the isolation is maximized. I cannot use port forwarding because of apparent constraints in UTM running macOS. That means I have to let Python through the firewall.

Is this a concern? And any suggestions on maximizing isolation in this setup? I should say my networking skills are very limited.

I have downloaded the Windows XP/Vista and 7 VM image from internet archive.

The latest SPICE is unable to install properly on Windows XP/Vista Guest (many errors related to qemu-vga on Windows XP and spicewebdavd for both XP/Vista). For Windows 7 Guest, I can successfully install SPICE, but I am unable to share MacBook Neo Host folder to Guest. I can only share Guest folder to Host.

Is the above run as expected?

alright so some context, im trying to get kali linux on a restricted mac that wont even let me open dmg files, since im trying to use the UTM installer. I cant even open or extract dmg files, the failed to mount error pops up, and I cant bypass it. anyways to get this thing running? like converting the dmg to a zip and extracting it from there? idk im not too much into this stuff im really new. i already have UTM and kali linux.iso downloaded, but not sure what to do with these restrictions. i dont wanna run it through the web as well. any help? thanks.

Used this project to achieve it: https://github.com/nfzerox/VirtualMacOniPad - Geekbench 6 was used to test the scores, and 8 cores were assigned during the test vs. 7 during this demonstration. 9GB RAM is assigned. - Lightweight games and some 3D games work great, such as Slope in the video, but other games through Steam (TankiOnline) install and launch but suffer graphical errors and crash. - Streaming videos/movies is very smooth. Can also use extended display to mirror full screen, and long duration videos play without issues. Personally this was a crucial for me since it essentially overrides the ipados15 limitation of showing black bars on sides during mirroring, and allows using Mac/ipad on full screen on external displays. It is possible to stream football matches in the VM and mirror it to the TV full screen and watch the whole game without freezes/crash. - Bluetooth doesn’t work / can’t be turned on inside the VM, but it is possible to connect bluetooth devices to iPad first and it passes through to MacOS. Wifi works the same way. Magic keyboard attached to iPad works seamlessly like a MacOS trackpad, but things like 3 finger swipe don’t work. Keyboard shortcuts do work. - Jailbroken via Dopamine on iPadOS 15.6.1

I’ve dug around a bit on here but the answers have been inconclusive, so I wanted to ask - is there a lightweight Linux distro that will run on UTM SE on an iPhone 16? I’m aware without JIT my options are limited (and this is more a hobby project), but I was hoping I could get something like Puppy Linux or Alphine Linux running.

I tried Puppy Linux to no avail. Any suggestions for configuration as I’m unable to get past the GRUB menu in Puppy Linux?

How to get the boot loader to read the CD / DVD? M5 - Tahoe.

Default Config - Mac 99. I've tried 3 different ISO's and this happens every time. What gives? It's also not very cooperative with OS 9.2.1. Is this due to Tahoe? Anyone got ideas?

As the title says. I thought 64gb would be HEAPS but apparently it is low. Literally all I have running is MacOS Sequioa, and Adobe After Effects. I don't know why that all takes up 64gb but here we are.

In UTM I resized to 96gb. Now, search tells me
For MacOS, Boot the macOS virtual machine.Open Disk Utility.Select the container/volume and use the partition/resize controls or run diskutil apfs resizeContainer disk1 (or your specific disk identifier) from the internal terminal.

But
There is no option to resize the main OS disk that I can find in disk util.

Any help appreciated.

This has been chasing me since forever. No display errors during installations. Right now I need openSUSE Thumbleweed but I cannot seem to pass the installation steps.

As soon as I press Install on GRUB, black screen, no display.

Tried it with every combination of virtio GPU I could, no HW accel, HW accel, rambus, pci, device.

Nothing. I tried through the serial port, but I cannot navigate the TUI after a point.

Has anyone figured out what might be causing these no display errors? I swear every time I tried to install something I ran into this issue, and most of the time I just dropped UTM out of frustration.

This time I would like to figure out what the hell is the problem.

Note: Graphics on the vm will not work properly.
