POC Diversity
Are there any South Asians or Indians at UT Tyler? Honestly, just POC? Obviously, it doesn’t really matter that much, you can be friends with anyone and people here have been so incredible. But since Tyler doesn’t have enough of a population to celebrate things like Garba or Diwali, I just think it would be nice to meet some people so homesickness doesn’t strike. At the very least, have a diverse friend group!! I love learning about all these cultures and stuff too. Honestly, I’m also looking for more city/town people as well. I love everyone here, they’re so sweet, but I need to get out of my apartment even if it’s not anything super hype. Just get together in others rooms, stores, thrifting, cafes of people have cars, etc.

There’s definitely many POC, especially South Asians at UTTyler. The highest number of international students comes from Nepal followed by India. There’s a Nepali Student’s Association on campus which has events (@uttyler_nsa). The International Office throws a Diwali Party every year and events for international students that all students can join. Infact, today, there’s an international students mixer (@uttyleroip). I would try to find someone from South Asia at the events and you can then be plugged in. I know there’s a WhatsApp group for Desi’s at UT Tyler, and even people who usually play football together.
