CTRL + ALT + T

Post image

Whenever i hit the terminal shortcut this pops up for some strange reason. I went to settings>keyboard shortcuts> launch terminal and it still doesn't work. I just upgraded to ubuntu 26.04 btw.

Do you happen to have custom shortcuts that would launch terminal with an arg? Check under the settings.

I did that too. It's already set to ctrl alt t by default but it still doesn't launch the terminal. It launches to Preferences-General. So weird smh.

yea my suspicion is that somehow you have a custom gnome-terminal application under ~/.local/share/applications which calls gnome-terminal --preferences or something like that.

Chat gpt suggests:

Try these in order:

  • Open Settings → Keyboard → View and Customize Shortcuts → Custom Shortcuts.
  • Look for anything assigned to Ctrl+Alt+T. Delete/disable it if you find one.
  • Then go to Keyboard → Shortcuts → Launchers → Launch terminal and make sure it is set to Ctrl+Alt+T.

It then adds some commands but I'm pretty sure you can ask it yourself 😉

dude that's not even the right settings panel, you're in the terminal preferences not the keyboard shortcuts
