Discussion Put on iPad mini??

I’ve seen people on YouTube putting just plain Ubuntu on tablets, iPhones and iPads. Is it bs? If not. Why not put Ubuntu touch on there? Is the a proper tutorial you can point me for iPad mini’s?

Asking why people don't do something is never an interesting question.
Or to be more correct, it is a bad way to express your curiosity.
Also the answer is always: because it's harder than you think, or it would have been done.
Another answer is: why don't you?

Ubuntu Touch is not just Ubuntu, there are many aspect of the mobile world that makes it more difficult and specific. There is probably a lack of necessary drivers to have a proper mobile experience.
Apple's devices are expensive, so developers are less likely to "sacrifice" one of those expensive piece of hardware to make a port.
And so many more reasons...

The best way to figure it out is to try it for yourself and you'll discover the many hurdles that you have currently no idea exist.

Not to mention that big devs like geohot completely stopped doing jailbreaks. The age of jailbreaking has almost completely died at this point and they were the only people who would have been interested in taking on a port like that.

Thank for the feed back. I do think we disagree on the why aspect. In terms of interesting or not.

The main reason I have not is mainly unknown. I’ve seen post of it done on YouTube and Reddit with half done tutorials on how. If left thinking if it’s legitimate or not. That’s why I’d rather ask out of curiosity.

I’ve managed to put Linux on MacBook airs and put new thermal paste so it’s not bogged down or bloated. I have yet to put it on an old phone.

I do appreciate the insight though. Along with checking the website seeing what devices are compatible.

I think you will find that iPads are so well 'glued shut', and I mean software-wise... that it's for all intents and purposes, practically speaking, impossible.

Like I said to the other commenter, big name developers like geohot have basically completely abandoned the jailbreaking scene.

We're at a point where jailbreaking is practically non-existent entirely. So, with that said the idea of Ubuntu touch being put on an iPhone or iPad is all but a crapshoot, if we can even say that.

If you're seeing this on YouTube I would assume it's BS.
