Wilhelmommy Wilhelmina saying “We’re not even meeting now” lmao
I’m doing my first ever rewatch and this scene had me cackling AHAHAHAHAHA. Villain or not, Wilhelmina really had some of the best lines.

(Mods feel free to pin this if you want) I’ve been doing a series where every Monday I post an episode of Ugly Betty for us to discuss, and I thought it would be a good idea to compile a list of all of them so people can go back to whichever one they want. I will try to keep it up to date as much as possible so that you can find whichever episode that you would like to comment on
S1E5: “The Lyin’, the Watch, and the Wardrobe”
S1E8: “Four Thanksgivings and a Funeral”
S1E18: “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”
S1E22: “A Tree Grows in Guadalajara”
S2E1: “How Betty Got Her Grieve Back”
S2E6: “Something Wicked This Way Comes”
S2E7: “A Nice Day For A Posh Wedding”
S2E13: “A Thousand Words By Friday”

She basically claimed that Betty would want to return to Queens and live the simple life with Walter like she did with her husband. We know, of course, that Betty was destined for much bigger things than to be confined to Queens for the rest of her life. How do you think Walter’s manager’s wife would feel if she saw what became of Betty at the end of the series?

i have no idea how i never noticed!!!
she does a great job and so did the makeup dept. but i can definitely hear the similarities in her voice/tone.
what a great directive choice to reflect the parallels since amanda is the first person Betty meets at both magazines. (not sure if it was done this way in the original but im guessing so!) its genius.
this show continues to impress me every rewatch. my favorite of all time. jokes always hit the same.
has anyone noticed anything else like this in the show before? or have a funny story? would love to hear about it.

I’m on my second rewatch and just noticed Betty mentioning Lindsay who later on plays a different character!

Just started ugly betty this year. I love it so far but I can't help but notice the obvious creative shift of the show. Season 1-2 had some of the craziest television shenanigans in history. Everybody involved in attempted murders at one point somehow. Wilhelmina also one of my favorite villains in TV shows. Her plans were always so immaculate and I can't hate her. But in season 3 everything seemed sooooo sitcomy??? Wilhelmina character became so soft it made me question the entire time, is she planning something crazy??? Also I feel like we barely see Daniel interact with Betty anymore. I'm not saying it's bad, but murderous plans and the overall office politics are what make me fall in love with ugly betty.

Unpopular Opinion: Walter deserved better, and here is how his storyline should have been
Hi everyone! I know most people here hate Walter, but rewatching season 1 (especially episode 11, "Swag"), I started seeing things from a different perspective and wanted to share it with you.
To begin with, I don't think the argument that Betty was a "Plan B" holds up. They started dating when they were very young, and it’s heavily implied they were each other's firsts. It is completely natural to want to explore something new at some point. He was always direct and honest with her about it. Some say he only came back because Gina dumped him after getting the TV, but Walter himself states that he broke up with her. In my view, he gave Gina the TV because she hinted she wanted one; he was just trying to make the relationship work. But once he noticed her shallow, materialistic personality, he backed out. That’s when he realized that Betty’s real essence was what he truly loved. He came back 100% committed to making her the woman of his life.
Walter is a sweetheart: humble, hardworking, and not afraid to show his genuine love. In episode 9 (at the hotel), his gifts were incredibly thoughtful. The car battery made total sense within their history and inside jokes, proving he remembers every single detail. And the dance game for Justin shows how well he knows and supports Betty’s family, including Justin's passion for dancing. Plus, the family's support is a huge green flag. Papi (Ignacio) is a wise man who sees beyond appearances (as we saw with Daniel and Santos). He sees Betty as a princess and only wants the best for her. If he supported Walter, it’s because he watched them for years and knew Walter literally worshipped the ground Betty walked on.
On the other hand, many people claim Walter was jealous or envious of Betty's career, but that doesn't make sense. Betty herself mentions to Daniel that she worked multiple other jobs to pay for college, and none of them were ever an issue in their relationship. Walter is a hardworking man who always supported and admired her drive. The real problem isn't Betty’s new career path; it's his fear of watching her change and change who she is just to fit into Mode—which she actually does during the hotel and Halloween episodes.
In episode 11, when Betty talks to Walter's boss and his wife, she looks at them as if she's seeing Walter's "future" and decides it's just not good enough for her. I found that incredibly unfair and disrespectful. They met at that store, and Walter has always been proud of his work. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to grow within a company you identify with; within his perspective, that job was exactly what he wanted, and that's perfectly valid. Betty temporarily loses her Queens essence and starts adopting Mode's materialistic values of success. It's one thing to dream of becoming an editor-in-chief; it's another to believe that's the only definition of real effort or a "happy life." Even if the show tries to frame the boss's suburban life as empty, the wife's love for her husband is actually very sweet and honest. Betty should have valued that. Meanwhile, she keeps flirting and going out with Henry, who is just as wrong for pursuing a girl in a relationship. Just because Henry is styled as the "cute, nice guy," we forget he barely even knows her.
My alternative storyline idea:
Walter should have had a mature conversation with Betty about her confusing behavior and suggested a break, saying: "I had my time to explore with Gina, now it's your turn to figure out what you want. I’ll be here as a lifelong friend if you decide to come back." Betty would then date Henry for a bit, realize he is a nice guy, but notice that they lack the deep connection and 7-year friendship she built with Walter. In the end, she would run back to Walter, fully confident he is the one. But of course... this is 2000s TV! If there is no drama, cheating, and people rising from the dead, the writers thought the audience would fall asleep, right? lol
What do you guys think? Am I the only one who sees it this way?

Maybe I'm mixing up shows or I dreamed this, but I really think this happened. All I remember is this one scene (it randomly comes to mind and makes me laugh). Wilhelmina and Daniel were in a meeting. I'm pretty sure other people were in the meeting, but their exchange is what stands out. I think Daniel was making suggestions for a theme or something that had to do with maybe Black History Month, Africans, or Black people in general. Whatever it was, whenever he said the word or phrase he looked at Wilhelmina and she asked him why he looked at her when he said that. And it was so funny 😂
Please tell me I didn't make that up. Does anyone know what episode that happened in?

I was just watching S3E10 and Daniel mentions the Mode website, “modeNY.com”. I visited the website out of curiosity to see if the URL would lead anywhere, and it is indeed active and redirects to the official abc page for Ugly Betty 🥹🥰

I just finished the series and now I’m combing through the cast’s IMDb pages to see what else I can watch them in.
Anyone knows what Vanessa Williams and Daniel Eric Gold up to these days? They haven’t been involved in new TV shows or movies in the past few years.

Growing up I wasn’t allowed to watch TV late but as an adult hello streaming! plus no ads. Man how I miss 20 episode seasons and filler episodes - what a ride. The 2000s fashion, New York/Queens loved it. The only time i had to fast forward was the Lindsay Lohan episodes - I hate watching bullying like that. Henry why can’t he just stay in Tucson? The baby plot with Charlie killed it for me. Willie was the funniest she kept the same energy her elaborate schemes wore them down eventually- though her insults with Claire Meade were top tier - they must of cracked up between takes. Hilda and Bobby hot hot hot but I still miss Santos that was heartbreaking acting. I wish Papi went to live with them but that’s cos my culture is also intergenerational living - I will always have my mother with me. Loved Justin he owned his lines, his relationship with Marc made me love Marc too. The Marc, Betty Amanda trio was always so good. Favourite guest appearance was probably Betty White and Victoria Beckham. I’m so glad Betty got the big job opportunity in the end and not the guy cos all those guys were rubbish for her. Plus, she moves closer to Christina. Daniel he’s a alright guy I wanted him to win, but his frown face was so annoying! idk if id ship him and Betty but there’s love there for sure. I wonder what he went on to do - he mentions working like Betty did but idk how he might do that.

Why was Matt so cute in season 3 but so NOT in season 4???
Did they decide that after he’s no longer a viable love interest for Betty, he needs to start looking ugly so we, the viewers, could move on?

Don’t come for me saying things like ‘she’s just a strong woman in the business world’. She’s truly horrendous. And I hate that she lasted the entire series.

ok, im in love with this show so far but can not for the life of me understand why no one is helping this girl out. she’s gorgeous! just needs a little work with her fashion and hair. obvi i know she’s meant to be “ugly betty” but why doesn’t anyone wanna help this girl out. it’s driving me nuts. even her sisters makeover, when she gave her an 80s blowout. im only in the 1st season but this is driving me crazy .-.

Currently in season 3. Thank goodness the Henry story is finally over. That story line went on way too long. He was so annoying in the end.
