I said this is another instance of this post but bears repeating:
The slums people here complain so often about are being replaced by either suburbs (I also don't like but they are better than slums) or "towers on park" constructions which while kinda ugly are very sanitary, and provide a good quality of life
And the new capital is going to have 7 million people, it's not "just for the rich" there are no 7 million rich people in Egypt, it's mostly for the middle class
It's authoritarian yes but suburbs are actually going to be only 1/4th of the area, 1/4th will be dense residential (very beautiful) 1/4th cbd and 1/4th military and goverment
People forget that the Paris we love is purposefully anridemocratic and destroyed centuries of history, and yet we would have done it all over again because it's so good
