https://playvalorant.com/en-us/news/game-updates/valorant-patch-notes-13-05/

TLDR; Pick’ Ems for Champs, penalties for stream sniping and instalock tools, and future changes to the Agent Gear system so make sure to grind it out and get all the items now!

Wait, so not only you have to spend credits on the gear as it was before, but now you'll need to play a lot of games on the agent to even have the ability to do so?

39

u/ABR-Aphex 17h ago

The way I read it, it seems like it will be a mix of the old and new system - you'll have to level up Agents to be able to buy the gear. Hopefully that also means the cost in credits will also go down to compensate.

Given that this is the only form of progression outside of rank, they could easily just be making it harder and keeping the cost to pad out "meaningful runtime." Lol.

17

u/gringrant 17h ago

It sounds like it will be either or.

10

u/bread-dreams 15h ago

the current agent gear system is so horrible for new players you have to grind the game an absurd amount and i wouldnt be surprised if they make it worse

4

u/Captain___Hindsight 17h ago

Hopefully not. I read it as the price of the gear is determined by how often you play the agent.

We know that the new Ranked Rewards will be revealed in a dev diary in the next couple weeks, if I had to guess, they’re probably going to do a more global revamp of progression throughout the game.

This might mean we’d have a mastery-like system for Agents, maybe with more and better agent gear?

Finally they added the option to only have 1 bot in range (Breach workaround players in shambles rn)

49

u/-EdenXXI- 17h ago

Finally...

When was the last time they updated the range? When they took away the spike simulation?

6 more years and DM may be fixed

u/Phobosv2 14h ago

Not for me lol i still like having 2 bots to train. I dont know why they just let us set a custom number...

We've started rolling out penalties if we detect usage of stream sniping and instalock tools. Players found using these tools will be subject to temporary game bans that will escalate to permanent with repeated usage.

Hopefully this actually does something. Stream Sniping in Immo/Radiant is really, really bad and has been for a long time.

52

u/IsywEy 17h ago

I genuinely don't know how they'll detect stream sniping. The biggest thing is if you're playing initators like breach and do across the map stuns. When you're at a high enough rank, you play off of game sense, especially when you look at player (including teammates) movement on the minimap.

So sometimes you just stun despite no sight of enemies, whether that'd be to stall pushes or whatever, and that pretty often times get enemies.

If that doesnt flag for stream sniping (no vision stun), then what's stopping an actual stream sniper just occasionally accurately hitting util, etc?

u/gringrant 17h ago

I'll be interested to see how they approach this problem.

What I don't want is Vanguard mucking around in the user's browser memory to check for open tabs. So hopefully they come up with a better way to enforce their rule.

27

u/phantomkbmod 16h ago

Even if they do that, you can just open the stream in your phone lol. This seems like a impossible thing to track

1

u/LikeAPwny 14h ago

I cant see how they would do it any other way…

4

u/gringrant 14h ago

The wording of "detect usage of stream sniping … tools" seems to suggest that programs that are designed specifically to aid and automatically stream snipe will be detected by Vanguard. Which isn't anymore invasive than Vanguard already is (it already checks what programs are running on the machine).

I think this rule is more so that stream sniping is "officially" cheating. And if you get banned from it, you can't complain that it wasn't a rule.

1

u/IsywEy 11h ago

I've had times where I'm watching valorant streams while playing. Not stream sniping, but maybe like VCT or something.

Assuming I'm watching any valorant stream whilst playing, will I just get banned for that? Theres probably be a lot more that goes into it, but I can't imagine that they'll be able to properly discern between some random stream/er of valorant you have open and someone who's actually a victim of your stream sniping.

3

u/gringrant 11h ago

If they do go this route, they would track which specific streams you are watching during specific matches.

So if your browser is constantly streaming TenZ_ttv and you play a game against TenZ it would flag.

I doubt this is the route they would go for two reasons:

1) Vanguard is already unpopular, touching something as sacred as the browser would upset lots of people.

2) It's technically difficult. Vanguard would have to understand the memory layout of various browsers for different versions; it would have to detect if a ttv tab is actually streaming; it would have to dissect the contents of all open pages if it wanted to detect an embedded twitch player; etc.

So I'd eat my hat if they did that, but that's what they'd be dealing with if they did.

1

u/Impressive_Tooth_494 2h ago

thats the biggest win for the update, am not high elo but streamsniping is a big problem, its basically having wallhacks and u are not getting banned for that if they really start banning players for streamsniping its a big W

u/Ashamed-Ad3909 16h ago

Can someone explain to me how putting a stream delay on doesnt prevent stream snipers? I see high immo streamers with zero delay and that to me, feels stupid.

12

u/IsywEy 16h ago

It just makes it where the viewers are watching essentially a delayed video. So if you set it to a 5 minute stream delay, your viewers are watching 5 minutes "in the past" in a sense. This pretty much makes it so stream snipers dont have the current round info (like positions, etc) since theyre looking at plays/info from 5 minutes ago.

-2

u/Ashamed-Ad3909 16h ago

Thats what I thought. So why do people stream with no delay and then act surprised when they are sniped?

8

u/IsywEy 16h ago

A lot of streamers (especially new ones) don't know about stream delay. A lot of streamers also dislike stream delay because it makes the interactions delayed, so they just resort to covering the minimap and maybe a 30s stream delay. If the stream sniping is bad enough, they'll probably up the stream delay, but not every streamer does that.

2

u/bread-dreams 15h ago

I fucking hate the minimap covering bullshit. I actively avoid watching streamers who do that tbh

1

u/LikeAPwny 14h ago

Because in a perfect world there arent any losers sniping

1

u/Ashamed-Ad3909 13h ago edited 12h ago

I agree but its like... there's an easy solution right there...

Edit: we are not in a perfect world. We do live in a technologically advanced world though. Use the damn stream delay.

1

u/Alpaca_Fan 12h ago

It does prevent stream sniping. But streamers also value chat interaction.

1

u/Ashamed-Ad3909 12h ago

Right, but thats kind of on them. Is a 2 minute delay really going to dampen the interaction that much?

Also, if you absolutely NEED to stream with no delay for chat purposes, maybe a 5v5 shooter isn't for you. Its way too easy to grief the entire team, simply because you wanna cater to 20 viewers. I dont see how thats worth it?

Edit: also, I am not stream sniping lmao I get to play 2 games a day. But I have been on the same team as these streamers and it absolutely ruins the entire experience.

1

u/Alpaca_Fan 10h ago

Why not add mitigations on both sides? I don’t think you can expect all streamers to add delay. But yes the problem is streamers AND stream snipers

1

u/Ashamed-Ad3909 10h ago

Oh, I am so pro-curbing stream snipers, but I do worry about how. Not against it at all. And not even trying to say streamers are the problem either. But stream delay is an easy and effective way to combat stream snipers.

1

u/Symysteryy 10h ago

Is a 2 minute delay really going to dampen the interaction that much?

For the record I agree with you that its frustrating when you're on a team with a streamer and they're getting sniped. Its pretty miserable, but yes as a streamer it is in your best interest to avoid having any kind of delay as much as you can.

You have to understand that alot of these people play Valorant as a job (or at least as some score of income) and people will genuinely click off of the stream if theres a multiple minute delay, thus losing you money. Would you rather make your teammates upset in a video game that ultimately doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things once its completed, or miss out on paying this months rent? Obviously that's an extreme example but you understand the point I'm making surely. It sucks for people like us but thats just how the numbers game works.

-2

u/Ashamed-Ad3909 10h ago

Well, I do hate to be that guy. But thats still a choice, you know? And its not just your teammates, you screw your own content as well. Who is sitting there to watch a half hour Valo game where the streamer is getting sniped?

I understand hitching your horse to something thats working.

Another good point here, people use their in-game names same as their twitch. I just wish streamers would try a LITTLE harder to avoid this. Cause some of it is self-inflicted.

And yes, yes, I know ideally nobody would stream snipe. But its 2026. People suck and you need to be proactive. Queue on a BRB screen, add a small delay and hide your damn username/dont make your name your twitch name. And hopefully Riot can find a way to find these stream snipers without accidentally banning others

Having to actually play the agent to unlock their gear is a big change. Especially for us players who've unlocked everything. Now insta-locking new agents is going to be even more toxic

10

u/SHAT_MY_SHORTS 17h ago

Genuinely annoyed me so much to spend creds on cool stuff or agents. I wish they kept it like this

-21

u/Nebulotic egirl main 18h ago

That's how it used to be

39

u/kelev 18h ago

No, you used to select an agent to work on unlocking the contract for and then playing anyone would unlock the contract's things, right? It's maybe closer to what it is before, but not the same.

21

u/thekmanpwnudwn spooky ghost boy 18h ago

I've played since Beta, and it's never been like this.

10

u/comelickmyarmpits 18h ago

No that's not how it used to be , we have agent contracts , we actived it for the agent items we want to progress in . Then play matches(with any agent we want ) , the experience we get directly translated to progression on contract of agent we activated.

31

u/Bangreed4 17h ago

you'll continue to use Kingdom Credits to unlock future gear. But after Patch 13.06, each piece of gear will be tied directly to how much you play the associated Agent. So if you're currently grinding for Agent Gear on any Agents you don't usually play, now's your chance to lock in and get those unlocks.

I hate this change

15

u/sleeplessn0body RIP my queen 16h ago edited 13h ago

they're making it harder and harder for some reason. at least them adding kingdom credits last time allowed us to buy bp banners, stickers, and gun buddies.

anything but to actually reward players for playing their game lol. can't wait for the next overpriced bundle. love my small indie company

5

u/bread-dreams 15h ago

it's like riot literally does not want you playing valorant. I guess the ideal player for them is one that buys all bundles instantly and then just walks around an empty custom pressing the inspect button

2

u/sleeplessn0body RIP my queen 13h ago

valorant was my first pc shooter game so my mind was blown when i tried fortnite for the first time bc their battlepasses are so much better and sometimes even better than the skins outside their bp's

3

u/ExcitingScheme4273 17h ago

I think this is their only idea for a progression system beyond ranks…

6

u/Actual_Use_8756 17h ago

Does anyone even care about the agent gear? If there were good cosmetics I would understand, but I guess it’s more for the f2p players.

2

u/Donut_Flame 3h ago

Some of the banners and pistols are nice. Jett sheriff comes to my head

4

u/ManyCalavera 17h ago

What is a stream sniping tool? Will a player get banned for having a browser tab open?

1

u/S0undGuy 12h ago

I am curious also on how they can possibly enforce this.

I'll watch a stream sometimes and think it sucks that players "snipe", but to enforce/penalize players .... how?

6

u/LevelUpCoder 17h ago

Guess I’m the only one who likes the agent gear change. I don’t think it’s bad to give a reward to someone who has dedicated a lot of time to playing or mastering a specific agent they like. Sounds like they’re still keeping Kingdom Credits open as an option to unlocking rewards for champs you don’t play.

1

u/Mythun4523 8h ago

It's probably gonna be "you have to play this agent for X hours to unblock the ability to buy the next gear with KC"

1

u/XXG1212 17h ago

Ooooh the chamber one I am surprised they picked. I always found a weird stutter or lag whenever a round starts and you play with the hh

1

u/REDDITz3r0 17h ago

I'd love to be able to spawn 2 bots in the range

1

u/RenoNYC 15h ago

Please, fix loadouts being permanently displayed over agents despite being turned off during mid round. I’m mid round and forgot to press alt every round.

1

u/-Sanko 13h ago

I just watched a tik tok about the valorant mobile range and it’s actually crazy that they don’t port the different game modes into pc range. Flash dodge simulator, crosshair placement training, baiting op shots, it’s crazy

1

u/BeyondAdventurous609 11h ago

they're just making the unlocking agent gear system worse with every revamp lmao. take me back to agent contracts

1

u/Mammoth_stein 7h ago

hold up… so yall can catch insta-lockers,cheaters and stream snipers on PC but yet yall cant catch a single cheater on console? am i hearing that right?

1

u/UnchainedMight 17h ago

I REALLY don’t like the path anti-stream sniping measures will go. I don’t advocate for people to snipe, but a system like that will get abused so fast. The streamer’s choose to stream KNOWING the risk, they should do what they can on their end if it’s something they want to deal with.

1

u/DYmD_Yasma 16h ago

Okay the streamer chooses to stream knowing the risks, but what about the people who end up on that streamer's team ? They didn't consent to being streamsnipped through someone else, did they :(

1

u/TrophySystem 1h ago

You're right, they should punish the streamer for team-hampering. /s

1

u/UnchainedMight 15h ago

That’s the unfair choice the streamer makes, streaming is directly griefing your team ultimately.

1

u/Equal-Yesterday-9229 11h ago

I have a solution to stream sniping, stop streaming 🤣 Or delay it significantly. It is such an avoidable and made up issue. You throw up a window into exactly what youre doing made available for free to the public, then complain that someone uses it. It's fucking baffling the amount of people who need to be protected from themselves.

-2

u/Ashamed-Ad3909 16h ago

And if they stream with no delay, how is it not their own fault for getting sniped?

0

u/UnchainedMight 15h ago

Exactly, if they don’t want to grief their team’s game and their own they need to do something on their end to curb it. If a delay is what it takes then that’s the price they pay.

1

u/abzoluut 17h ago

Crap, I glanced over it and thought they added a system to precent people from instalocking, haha. Wishful thinking.

2

u/RemoteWhile5881 16h ago

How would they do that?

2

u/abzoluut 16h ago

They could easily discourage instalocking without introducing role queue. For example, if you’ve instalocked in your previous two games, in your next game you can’t lock an agent for the first 10 seconds. You can still hover whoever you want, so your team knows your preference, but you have to give everyone else a chance to pick too.

Another simple option is just making the first 5–10 seconds of Agent Select hover-only for everyone. Nobody can lock immediately, everyone gets to show what they want to play, and after that Agent Select works exactly as it does now.

No forced roles, no complicated system. Just remove the race to click an agent first.
