Help me out please

Hi, I own a Vauxhall corsa 1.4 16 plate. I need to buy engine oil for the car. Halfords recommends 5w30 N8. I have no clue what the N8 means. I’m just trying to find the right oil and be more educated on this. Thanks in advance

Vauxhall Grandland X 2021 — is it a good car?

Hey everyone,
I’m considering buying a 2021 Vauxhall Grandland X and wanted to hear from people who actually own one or have experience with it.
How reliable has it been for you? Any common problems or expensive repairs I should know about? How is it in terms of comfort, fuel economy, maintenance costs, and overall driving experience?
Would you recommend buying one in 2026, or would you look for something else in the same price range?
Also, if there are any particular engines or versions I should choose or avoid, I’d really appreciate the advice.
Thanks!

Hi guys, need help. I've been looking for a long time something to replace the astray for some kind of storage tray to leave my phone there, but I couldn't find anything. Like I show on the second picture, that's what I'm talking about. If there's no such piece I would like to know if there's a possibility to buy/install some sort of tray somewhere else. Newest cars have these and I want one. Thank you guys for the help.

Strange noises coming from 2014 Astra 2.0 CDTI (165bhp)

Recently, during the heatwave we had in the UK, I noticed that my car was making a strange tapping noise and squeal. This was happening on both cold start and after a long run (work is a 60mile round trip).

I took it to a Vauxhall specialist and nothing came up on the OBD and they weren't confident on giving a clear diagnosis.

The vehicle was there for two days and never made the noise shown in the video.

They said it sounded internal to the engine but trying to diagnose it would mean stripping the engine and it would cost more than the car is worth.

They said it could be the oil pump or hydraulic lifters but weren't sure. It's had the oil pickup done. So not sure if it is oil related.

Since the weather has cooled down, it’s not made the noise again. I’ve tried loading the cars electrics to see if it’s alternator related but again no noise. I’ve taken it on long drives but again, no noise.

I just wondered if anyone else has had a similar noise.

Have a few more videos but not sure how to add more than one.

Thanks

Corsa electric connect plus issue

Hi,

New to Vauxhall corsa electric ownership, I have a 2024 model which we activated the plus membership for last week so we can defer charge remotely and other stuff.

Issue is that every time me or my wife goes in to the app it pops up with 2 messages saying service now activated. It’s getting annoying. We both have the app separately but one account.

But more than that the car has gone in to economy mode the last couple of days presumably due to low 12v battery.

Could this whole “service now activated” message be causing a constant handshake issue or something where the final activation isn’t clearing the car to the server until every time I open the app, thus causing the cars computer to stay active somehow?

Is there anything I can do and any advice you can give me.

Forewarning I’ll downvote you if the advice you give is never buy a stellantis Vauxhall/electric vehicle. Practical solutions only please - be kind. My wife gets free charging at work and we also have a 7 seater diesel so didn’t need 2 big cars. It works for us, even if it’s not your first choice.

I just would like practical advice to resolve or things to say/get Vauxhall to do when it goes to them for its 2 year service next week.

Is it worth getting a 12v battery load test done by Halfords or kwik fit or somewhere independent so I can immediately tell them the 12v battery needs changing under the warranty.

Also I can’t see the service history in the app, it’s an ex motability car and I’m trying to get it put on so I can see it but Vauxhall customer service are dragging their backsides with it, will I need this for proof of warranty as it was done at a different garage to my local one. I do have a printout of where it was done and when and the mileages (although they missed a 1 on one of them so it looks like the 15,000 mile one in May was actually done at 4,000 instead).

Sorry for the wall of text, thanks for your patience. New to this lot of questions.

What accessories are actually worth getting for a 2014 Corsa?

Hi all,

I’ve recently purchased my first car, a 2014 Corsa, and I was wondering what accessories you’ve bought for your cars that you’ve found to be a real lifesaver.

I’m also interested in anything that’s helped keep the car looking cleaner, more organised, or just made it look a bit better overall.

I’d really appreciate any recommendations or suggestions, especially things you’ve personally found useful!

Thank you

Vauxhall Corsa D 2010 1.0 litre. Been making this noise for about a week now, I've checked that the spark plugs are torqued correctly and the engine has plenty of oil. It also quickens in pace when revving

Opel Corsa D owners – which fuse did you use to hardwire a front dashcam?

I have a 2010 Opel Corsa D (LHD) and I’m planning to hardwire my front dashcam using the interior fuse box on the driver’s side/front left of the dashboard.

For anyone who has actually hardwired a dashcam in a Corsa D:

  • Which fuse number/position did you tap?
  • Is it ACC/switched power (off when the ignition/key is off) or permanent 12V?
  • If you use parking mode, which fuse did you use for constant/BATT power?
  • Where did you connect the ground wire?
  • Did you use a fuse tap/add-a-fuse, and what fuse rating did you put in for the dashcam?

If possible, a photo of the fuse position you used would be really helpful.

I specifically want to avoid tapping anything related to the airbags/SRS, ABS or other safety-critical systems.

Thanks!

Clutch not returning fully in my Corsa

hello I would be grateful for some advice as a week ago I heard a noise in my clutch and since then twice I could not change gear as the pedal didn’t return fully and had to return it with my foot while driving. I have to drive 100 miles today and I am worried it will completely fall down and to able to return it while been in the motorway. Is there any quick fixes or things to check? is it likely to fail gradually meaning I have to return it my self more often or it will fail without warning? thank you

Engine sound

Can anyone identify the sounds from my 2012 Astra Active - 70k miles - no loss in performance, no warning lights.

Any help appreciated - when I remove the oil cap when idling it almost feels like it’s difficult to remove and being pulled in. When it’s removed when I hover my hand over the hole it’s feels like it’s blowing air out.

Sound feels like it’s coming from the engine, can’t see anything obvious such as holes but difficult to see.

Climate control panel works . But not the fan. Adjusting the speed does nothing. I’ve looked at the under bonnet fuses but I can’t find which one relates to the interior fan

Mokka Issue on way home from Dealership

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Bought a used Vauxhall Mokka X 1.6 CDTi [136] Ecoflex on Saturday the 22nd August from Evans Halshaw
Paid 6k in full
Drove home (2.5 hour drive)
10 Mins from home and this is how it sounds when turbo (im guessing) kicks in.
Called dealership - Was told to send video of issue.
Was then informed 5 days later after contacting them multiple times that they cannot book it in until at least the 23rd of September at my nearest centre, and beyond at their own.
Multiple calls later, I snapped at the manager of the dealership and simply stated I wanted a refund.
Said I can't have one as they have right to repair, but don;t want to drive to make anything worse

Anyhow, just from the sound, anyone able to pin point?
Turbo?
Pipe?
Both?

I had a quick peek, but to be honest, I have no clue what I'm looking at and cant see any loose or split pipes to or from the turbo.

2016 Astra K 1.6 CDTi – CarPlay + cameras

Hi everyone, I’ve got a 2016 Astra K 1.6 CDTi and I’m looking to install a reverse camera + front/rear dash cam, and replace the factory screen as it’s flickering badly.
I’d like a new screen/head unit with Apple CarPlay, preferably wireless, while keeping the steering wheel controls and other car functions working.
Has anyone done this on their Astra K? Any screen/head unit or camera recommendations? Also, anything I should avoid?
Thanks!

Can someone tell me if this noise is normal (not cold start)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

(I want to start by saying I’m a complete novice about cars so I apologise if I make mistakes.)

I Purchased a 1.4t petrol Astra K 2016 on around 80k miles a few weeks ago, I read a lot about making sure there isn’t any timing chain issues and upon purchasing it I didn’t hear any obvious rattle.

Now overtime, maybe it’s in my head but I can hear this sound (in the video) a bit when idle in the car and a lot more when opening the bonnet. Like I said, it could just be me in a quiet car picking up noises that are completely normal but I have no clue.

Can someone confirm if this is okay? I know at this mileage changing the timing chain is something that should be considered but it’s not economically worth it for me if I have to.

Newer Corsa

Hi all,

I'm looking at getting a new car and the new Corsas are coming up at a good price. I have however realised there's quite a lot of hate for the engine on the internet. Is this enough of a reason for me to steer clear or is it not actually that bad.

Active Grill Problem - Now Coil Gone

Thanks in advance for any help or thoughts on this. I bought my 2021 1.2 petrol Astra in April 2025 with about 14k miles on from a main dealer; it was returned under warranty as the turbo failed and had to be replaced. Probably around February this year and with 30k on the clock the engine management light came on and the OBD code was 'P059F Active Grill Air Shutter A Performance/Stuck Off'. The garage said the car was ok to be driven but may not pass its MOT (due November) so I've left that issue for now.

Yesterday whilst stopped at traffic lights the engine stalled and when restarted went into limp mode and was running very rough. The OBD codes are P0299 Turbocharger/Supercharger A Underboost Condition, P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected and PB2AAA Unknown Code; the P059F code is also still showing.

I can't get it to a garage for a fortnight so my questions are;

1 What do you think is wrong (recovery guy reckons the coil pack on cylinder one has gone)

2 Is it likely to be expensive / uneconomical to put these issues right

3 Have I bought a lemon and should get rid so start looking for another car now.

Any help or thoughts would be gratefully received.

Power problem with 2015 Insignia

Hi guys,

I seem to be having a big issue with my 2015 Diesel Insignia Manual. The last 3 times I've driven, it has taken two turns of the key to get it going. Then the acceleration is horrible after that, like it's not getting enough power.

There's no lights on the dash except for the service light, which has been showing up for a bit before this while I'm waiting to get new glow plugs installed. I also plugged in the OBD scanner and haven't read any error codes on it. Any ideas?

Issues with finding replacement rear brake calipers

Post image
6 Upvotes

Okay I have a vectra b 2003 GSI 2.6 estate that has had "modifications" prior to it being with me , I can find replacement calipers standard for year make model but nothing that I have actually fitted to the vehicle.

It has vented 280mm diameter discs (standard is solid discs) the calipers look like its had a spacer fitted between the two halves

The bolt has been fitted in place of the nipple i guess it got snapped at some stage

They are 35mm piston Ate calipers

Any thoughts greatfully accepted , I have looked at parts catalogues and tried all sorts of combinations (years and models) and can't find anything

Speaker harness adapter for 2011 Insignia

Hi there, looking for advice on this if possible.

I'm in the process of changing the now dead speakers in my 2011 Insignia, so I ordered the speakers and adapter kits for it.

The issue I've come across is regarding the wiring adapter I ordered from ebay. I seem to need this "https://www.connects2.com/Product/ProductItem/CT55-VX02" but that appears to no longer be available, so I get sent this "https://www.connects2.com/Product/ProductItem/CT55-FD01", because they say it's a direct fit, as does the supplier apparently. But it isn't, the connector is a slightly different shape and doesn't fit.

Seeing as the one I need appears to be discontinued now, can anyone point me to somewhere that I can get the required part from, or will I just have to modify the ones I've been sent? Everywhere I looks seems to be selling from the same supplier, and has the same "CT55-FD01" item.

Corsa electric infotainment issues

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hello folks,
I bought a 23-plate Corsa Electric Ultimate on Monday and I’m having a couple of issues with the infotainment system.
The system keeps rebooting every few minutes — the screen goes completely blank and then starts back up again.

I’m also having problems with the radio. It seems to be stuck on the frequency slider screen and doesn’t show any stations or DAB options.

Has anyone experienced anything similar or know what might be causing it?

Thanks!
