Global Empire as Domestic Policy | While many mainstream commentators blanch at the characterization of the US as an empire, the hard data show that it is today possible to seriously dispute. The US military operates between 750 and 800 bases around the world, in around 80 foreign countries.

Still with him?
So, I’m kinda dumb. On the whole, are Vets still supporting Trump? I know they voted for, probably more than once. I’m not a Vet. In my retirement community there is a high percentage of Vets, but politics is not openly discussed. After all his antics, are you still with him?

hand this to his people please
If McGinnis files a personal injury lawsuit against Tim Sheehy for battery and gross negligence, the Senator faces a steep legal climb:
- No Qualified Immunity: Police officers are largely protected from lawsuits unless they violate "clearly established law." Senator Sheehy has no such protection here.
- The "Volunteer" Liability Standard: In civil law, if a citizen voluntarily injects themselves into a dangerous situation where they have no legal duty to act, they assume total liability for any harm they cause. Because he is not a cop, the standard defense of "I was just doing my job to secure the room" does not apply to him. The plaintiff only needs to prove that the Senator's physical actions were reckless and directly contributed to the broken arm.
- Criminal Charges Against the Senator
While a local prosecutor or the Department of Justice would have to make the political choice to charge a sitting Senator, the legal theory for charges like assault or battery exists precisely because of what you stated:
- No Self-Defense Claim: To legally justify using physical force against another human being as a civilian, you must prove you were protecting yourself or others from an imminent threat of physical harm.
- Words Are Not an Imminent Threat: Since McGinnis was not brandishing a weapon and was already surrounded and contained by multiple armed Capitol Police officers, there was no plausible "imminent danger" to the room. Without a self-defense justification or a badge, any intentional, uninvited physical force that breaks another person's bone fits the textbook definition of criminal battery.
By stepping into the fray, the lawmaker stripped himself of his institutional protections and entered the legal arena as an ordinary civilian who intentionally inflicted severe physical harm on another person.
