Discussion Client wants to sit with me while I edit

I usually edit videos on my own and send them to the client once they’re ready.

One of my clients asked if we could sit down together and edit the video in real time.

Have you ever worked like this with a client? Is it common? How do you usually handle these sessions?

Feedback What would you charge for this edit?

Upvotes

Was asked to recreate a concert promo video that was a minute and fifteen seconds, had at least a dozen motion graphics and effects, and at least 60 individual clips. Screen recorded to show here but Reddit won’t let me post it so I’m stuck trying to describe it. Was asked super last minute so don’t have more than 3 days to make it.

What would you charge for an edit like that?

I asked for $65 cause it’s a friend on a budget that’s given me lots of opportunity even when I wasn’t any good. I felt like that was basically giving it away for free but he said he’s going to have to look at the budget to see if he can even pay that. And then my friend that went to college for video and editing said that that’s a fair price that he would charge clients. AM I GOING INSANE?! Cause I thought I was being foolishly generous.

For context this would be my first edit doing some of those effects, but I still don’t feel like that brings the price point that low.

How do I do this? How to edit like Paper Planet channel

Hey! I’m trying to adapt this style to my niche as I think it’s pretty nice and different, the paper animations really stand out with story telling.

I haven’t had any luck finding tutorials or even a site (like Agent Opus that has several different styles, including claymation animation)

Does anyone have an idea on how to make this or editors that do this style?

This is their instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_paperplanet_?igsi=MXE4d3R5M2FsODZkdQ==

Cheers!

Hiring [HIRING] Short-Form Video Editor – Arabic Content | $20–$40/Reel

Hey everyone!

I’m looking for a short-form video editor to work with me on an ongoing basis.

What I’m looking for:

  • 🎬 Editing Instagram Reels / TikToks / YouTube Shorts
  • 📅 3 reels per week
  • 💰 $20–$40 per reel, depending on experience and quality
  • 🗣️ Must understand Arabic — this is important since the content is in Arabic
  • Strong sense of pacing, hooks, retention, captions, and visual storytelling
  • Able to add relevant B-roll, sound effects, motion graphics, and transitions when needed
  • Reliable and able to meet deadlines consistently

This can turn into a long-term position for the right person.

When applying, please send:

  1. A few examples of your best short-form edits
  2. Your experience with Arabic content
  3. Your rate per reel
  4. Your availability

Please don't send generic portfolios. I’m mainly interested in editors who are strong at short-form content and understand retention.

Help DaVinci Resolve Render Problem

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone.

When I edit and render vertical videos in DaVinci Resolve for TikTok, the resulting image looks muddy. I haven't been able to fix it, no matter what I try; the output always comes out muddy. I download the videos using yt-dlp before editing them in DaVinci.

I’m attaching my settings. I’d really appreciate any help.

Why do some supposed clients of video editors make offers but do not even respond to messages to either thank or decline the services offered?

I used Capcut before for few years and now I finally shifted to premiere pro from last 20 days.

I have created this showreel of mine in previous days. I learned keyframe graphs and some basics of premier pro on youtube.

Although I have used some presets at some places but I learned how to do them manually.

It's not complete or final export. SFX and bgm is left If possible can you please give me some reviews. Also there are something's to add.

Help How would you transition this?

Question:

How would you go about transitioning from this part to the other clip?

Ideally, I would have them curve with the paper, but is that even possible? Anyways, cheers!

I left my phone on one night and my partner was snoring and keeping me up but there seemed to be some people kicking off in the background and on listening back they were arguing a lot and wasn't too nice with the intentions.

Wondering if anyone can isolate it please?

Thanks! I'm trying to teach myself as my first project 😬

Help Need Help! Feeling lost after 8 years as a motion designer, drowning in debt and don't know where to go from here.

I'm 27M and have been working in motion design/video editing for almost 8 years… full-time, freelance, contracts, studio work, etc.

I've worked on projects for brands like Netflix, Hulu, Puma, Havells, JCB, Citroën and others. My main work has been motion design… explainers, typography, UI animation, transitions, overlays, etc. I also have experience with editing, cinematography, color grading, VFX and 3D, and I'm comfortable with After Effects, Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator and DaVinci.

On paper, I feel like I have a decent amount of experience and skills.

But right now… I feel completely lost.

I've been trying to find a stable job since March 2026 and I'm getting almost no traction. I've been applying aggressively across Naukri, LinkedIn, Indeed, Instahyre, YT Jobs, Roster, direct emails, Reddit, Instagram, etc. I've probably sent hundreds of applications a day at times.

I've also tried Fiverr, Upwork, Freelancer and direct freelance outreach.

Almost nothing.

And the people/studios who used to regularly give me freelance work aren't getting much work themselves either. No disagreements or anything like that… the industry just seems slow idk.

The financial side is what scares me the most.

I'm currently sitting on nearly ₹10L of debt through credit cards and personal loans. A lot of it came from family emergencies, along with some bad financial planning on my part. I've never missed an EMI or bill so far, but my savings are almost gone.

Every day has basically become:

"How am I going to arrange money for the next payment?"

And it's destroying my ability to actually do creative work.

I overthink everything. I start personal projects and never finish them because I'm constantly questioning whether they're good enough to publish. I wanted to build my own content and personal brand, but the financial pressure makes it incredibly difficult to focus.

It's also starting to affect my friendships, family relationships and overall mental state. I'm seriously considering therapy because I don't think I can keep carrying this pressure alone.

What confuses me is that I have almost 8 years of experience, recognizable brands in my portfolio and a pretty broad skill set… yet I can't seem to get through the door.

So I'm wondering if I'm approaching this completely wrong.

Should I specialize?
Move into something adjacent or temporarily leave the creative industry just to stabilize financially?

I'd really like to hear from people in motion design, editing, VFX, filmmaking, post-production or similar creative fields who have gone through a rough phase like this.

What would you do if you were in my position?

I'm not really looking for sympathy… just some honest perspective because I genuinely don't know what my next move should be.

TL;DR:
27M, 8 years in motion design/editing with work for brands like Netflix, Hulu, Puma, etc., but I've been unable to find stable work since March 2026 despite hundreds of applications and freelance outreach. I'm carrying nearly ₹10L in debt and the financial pressure is starting to affect my work, relationships and mental health. Looking for honest advice from people who've been through something similar… what would you do in my position?
