How common is it for landlords to hijack electricity meters in Vietnam?

I rented an apartment in Da Nang last month.

I'm alone, I don't cook, and I only use the AC to sleep. Today (28 days later), I went to check the meter and it's 500 kWh more than last month...

This is much beyond normal. The previous month I was in Thailand in a same-size room, and I used the AC ALMOST 24/7, and my final reading was 350 kWh.

The difference between the two rooms is only that Thailand didn't have a fridge or washing machine, but none of these explain a 200 kWh difference.

I feel like the meter in Vietnam is counting double, or maybe there is other stuff connected to my meter...

Does anyone have a similar experience?

Is there a way to verify it?

Hi, just wanting to get some understanding of Vietnamese child rearing practises from other Viet parents. I live in Australia.

I've been nursing my baby very successfully for 5 months, but have been constantly pressured by my mother and grandmother to switch to feeding him formula. Their reasoning is that I must not have enough milk because my son looks slim. This is despite my son growing and thriving just fine, he's just not a super chubby baby.

Just wanted to ask what the Vietnamese perspective on this is - do many Vietnamese prefer formula over breastmilk? Is formula advertising very aggressive in Vietnam? It makes me pretty angry but I want to understand the reason behind why they're so concerned.

I am planning a Trip to Viet Nam this autumn and would like to do a Ha Giang Loop 4D/3N Tour. The options are by bike with Easy Rider or a guided tour by car. From what I read, the motorbike is usually recommended.

However, I am very tall (205cm/ 6‘8“) with around 100kg. Would motorbike Even be feasible for me or would I regret the decision? How is the car tour compared to the one with motorbikes? Did anyone have experience with the topic?

Hi everyone! I have a small question regarding a possible business opportunity in Vietnam.

I've been traveling around Asia for a while now, and I've been thinking about trying to build something here. To be completely honest, I don't have much business experience I'm basically a beginner but I'm very motivated to learn and give it a serious try.

I also have a friend who lives here, and the idea would potentially be to partner with him, which could hopefully make some of the administrative and practical aspects easier to manage.

I've had a few different ideas. One of them would be importing products from China and reselling them in Vietnam through platforms like Shopee, TikTok, and Facebook. My idea would be to start with small quantities and test different products before investing too much money.

I also have some knowledge and experience in sports and fitness, so I've considered working as a freelance coach, either in a gym or doing street workout/personal training.

Another idea would be starting a scooter or camera rental business, although I understand that this would require a bigger initial investment.

I know some of these ideas might sound naive to people with more experience, but I'd really appreciate constructive advice rather than discouragement. Living in Asia has been a dream of mine for a long time, and I'm not expecting to make $10,000 per month. Honestly, if I could eventually generate around $1,000 per month and build a sustainable lifestyle, I would already be very happy.
