Vive pro grey screen

Last night I was playing boneworks and was turning around quite a bit and then the screen just went grey I tried to restart steamvr but was still grey and then tried to unplug everything and then realised that the cable from the headset that was in the link box side was a bit warm I don’t know how warm it is usually but it felt warmer than it should have been after just playing for 5-10 minutes I also tried to update the headset but that haven’t seemed to do anything I did but this headset used in January this year and when I got i noticed the cable was a bit tangled and wasn’t in the greatest condition but I don’t want to just buy a new cable and then have it still go grey

if it got tangled or crinked, then the cable is probably toast. VR headset cables are a bit fragile. they don't really stand up to much abuse. twisting them enough to notice that it doesn't look in the greatest condition is a pretty big clue that it's mangled. people are pretty hard on them for some reason. leaving them in the floor while playing, tripping over them, stepping on them, etc. then they're all surprised pikachu when they quit working. you'll probably need to get a new one.

grey screen is typically a loss of tracking. the cable carries more than just a video feed. new cable runs about $60 or so. my advice would be to go down to your local hardware store and buy two rubber coated garden hooks 1&1/2 or 2 inch ones work well, get a couple of swivel hooks, and maybe a small bundle of clothesline cord or paracord.

screw the hooks into your ceiling, one offset from your PC, and the other a bit behind where you normally stand and face. then you can use the cord to make a line and tie the swivel hooks to the other end. i usually make the swivel hooks a bit above my head level. then when you play you can clip in your cord and keep it up off the ground, and keep from twisting it. typically two will do the job.
