Why do so many players use this specific bat?? Is it just that good of a bat? The colors? The brand in general?

This past weekend, we noticed a new umpire working the WPBL. Sophiyia Liu is the first female umpire in Taiwan, and was the first female umpire to call an international game.

Another "weird little detail" observation/question . . .

One of my student photographers who was shooting the football game on Friday night came to class today and said, "Look I got on Friday night!" They pulled a baseball out of their camera bag. They said it was a foul ball that landed over at the football game.

Based on the timing, and by watching the replay of the game, I'm pretty certain it was when Kelsie Whitmore was pitching to Edith De Leija in the 5th inning. De Leija hits two in that at bat that look like they were headed for the football field.

Here is the strange thing: It wasn't a WPBL ball. It was a generic baseball.

There was an interview, article, or podcast (I can't recall which) where one of the players talked about the balls having a "plastic-y cover" and being slick back on opening night. The WPBL balls that I've handled wouldn't have gotten like that, but this generic one fits that description. (I've seen this particular brand/model ball used in tournaments, and the cover is OK, but not great.)

Has anybody else caught a foul ball that did not have the WPBL stamp on it?

So I went to Amazon Prime to find the game through Scripps because I knew it was available on Prime on Sundays and Thursdays but it’s not being advertised anywhere on Prime. And I couldn’t even find it when I searched for it. But I saw the NY Mets and SF Giants game and it was starting at 6:30 so I clicked on it and it was the WPBL game! It’s like they’re trying to hide the games!

TLDR Just got an app in the App Store that lets you log every game you’ve been to in any sport and it’ll pull the box scores and players so you can not only see what stadiums you’ve been to but what players you saw and how they played: who’s hit the most homers, stolen the most bags, etc. …and now there’s like 100+ leagues

And the slick part to me, or the black mirror part to others on Reddit, is you can have it look at your camera roll and auto log games for you based on the location of a photo you took and the date it was took of it matches any of the 2m games I have in my database.

…I think it’s fun and it’s been live for like a month now and folks have logged almost 40k games so I’m kind of starting to think it has legs.

I’ve never gotten this far with any ideas of mine so I’d love feedback
