Football Parking

Hi all - life long Penn State fan here. I’ve only been to a few games, and I was never old enough to pay for things for them. I just won two tickets to the white out game vs USC, but they didn’t come with parking passes. Looking on ticket master it’s like $100++ to buy a parking pass on there. My question for those of you who go to games often - is this an accurate price? I’m not looking to tailgate, just park my car lol Are there any cheaper options available?

That’s the normal secondary market price and you’ll likely be in the parking lot until 1230-130 if it’s a general lot. There are shuttles from various off campus locations that you can buy seats on if you’re just parking and not tailgating. You can also park on a side street downtown like east prospect Ave and walk for free

Do you just pay like time of service for the shuttles, or is that something I should look into in advance as well? Thanks for the reply I really appreciate the insight!!

Not anymore you can't. They put signs up that have a parking cost for football games but I'm sure it's still cheaper than $100+

Good point-$25. I thought when the policy was proposed you only had to pay if you were parking overnight but it looks like that was incorrect

Yeah I park in those places all the time for free but saw the signs the last time I did. Got me a bit scared until I realized it's only for football weekends. Which makes sense but sucks.

Park at Walmart on Atherton for free and take the bus in to town. There is a stop there and it takes you to college ave. Plus there's shuttles for the game. Its so much easier to get there, and cheaper!

Nope, its a dedicated spot on game days. Huge parking lot and many fans use this service.

If you drive up early you also can park in one of the campus lots (plus others). I took my son to the playoff game back in 2024 and got a spot at the lot next to the HUB. When the match ended, we left, went straight to the car, and left all the lot traffic on that side of campus - and got back to Harrisburg quickly.

Congrats on winning the tickets and enjoy yourself. That’ll be an unbelievable atmosphere. It’s also going to be a late night, so be careful driving - if you’re driving back. Depending on which way you’re going home, hotels in Altoona and Harrisburg will be loads cheaper than anything close to State College.

Thank you! That was going to be another question I had - hotels. I figured they’d be insane in the area that night. I’m not super far away ~2.5-3 hours but with it being so late and likely a long day in general I was considering grabbing a room for the night somewhere and just doing that drive in the morning lol

I wouldn’t considering being able to park in a campus lot to be 100% accurate during the fall. It was different for SMU because students werent there.

99% of hotel rooms within an hour radius of the stadium will be $400 with 2 night minimum or some other crazy amount of money. If you are serious about saving money, just sleep in your car until the sun wakes you up and then drive home.

I'm going up this weekend and got lucky - only had to pay for one night at a fairly reasonable rate. Me and my boys are going up there and plan to trash the place. We Are!!

You can head to College Ave earlier in the day and usually find a scalper selling parking.

Or on your way off 322/99 coming down the ramp to Park Ave (East Lots) there are usually scalpers on the ramp.

Edit to correct: this is a big game and you can probably score parking for $25-$50 (depending on which lot) if you can negotiate.

Closer to game time it gets even cheaper.

Make sure you know the lot layout/ traffic pattern from the online map so you don’t buy the wrong pass for the way you are approaching the stadium. N/S/E/W areas all have one single way in. Don’t buy a N/S/W pass if you are in the E approach and vice versa versa versa.

I’ve never had a problem parking in the Nittany Deck, near Rec Hall.  It’s $40. For a whiteout game, you’ll want to get there nice and early however.

Drive out to the Wal-Mart near the Mall (just off of I-99). You can catch a bus into the game. It used to be $10 each way and they drop you off/pick you up at the intersection of University Boulevard and Curtin Street, right next to the Jordan Center.

If you don’t wanna tailgate you can get there early and park in like eisenhauer garage and walk. But that’s actually cheap for a whiteout pass
