Looks like a rugged phone or case to me and it turned out undamaged. Can't be sure but pausing on the right part and I didn't see any obvious damage.

It's probably cracked too, but that looks like a Max size phone, and modern phones don't shatter the way early smartphones did. That much force might have still cracked the screen, but it would just be a few long cracks, more like a windshield that's only cracked compared to a side window.

this is what screen protectors and a good case is for, tbh.
Phones are pretty sturdy, their weak point is mostly the screen, although i wouldn't want to drop a caseless phone either. Slap a good screen protector and an otterbox on that thing and itll be fine.

Unless you're like blue collar a $20 case is more than enough for occasional drops

Yeah. My family drilled it into me that i needed good cases to protect my phone, mostly because most of my family members are blue collar 🤣🤣
Better safe than sorry, though, i suppose. Id rather drop 60$ on a case for a 700$+ phone than have to pay over 200$ to repair said phone.

Modern phones are water resistant, so the water from this ice is not really a problem.

I don't think it's the initial drop that's the problem in this case and I'm not sure if a good case could help much here.
My mom bought a really heavy duty case for her phone many years ago. It was thick, waterproof and could float. This was when phones where not touch screen and also not waterproof. Within a week the case and phone was broken.
She some how MELTED it.

Tbf, that was a slab of ice, theres only so much force a case can protect against.

It looked fine to me unless it was slapped so hard the screen won't turn on, but I see no cracks

Honestly, props for not trying to save the phone, you could tell he almost did and stopped himself. Would've cracked his head if he'd tried
