A palm tree leaf fell right in my windshild while I was working

i didnt even knew that kind of leaf were heavy enough to break a windshield. at least my boss will help me pay to fix it.

I would have thought the same thing and was going to make a joke about a free sunshade then saw the damage. Your boss is a good person for doing that.

Damn, I've never seen so much fall off. Usually just the frond come off, something must have been wrong with the tree

The big green part attached to the frond usually doesnt fall off in the trees I grew up with. Never, in fact for the ones I cleaned up. They have always snapped at the bend.

As you can see the trunk has no leftover fronds on it. There's nothing wrong with the tree, I assume yours is a different type of palm

Though it did break the windshield, I think I still prefer assault by the falling leaf over a coconut.

The frond of some are ridged in huge thorns, too. I know all the ones on my street in southern California did. We used to sword fight with them as teens, but had to be careful to not actually hit each other because of the wicked thorns.

They are so much heavier than they appear to be. Before forecasts for high winds, I would drive around looking for a space that wasn’t under a palm tree because I didn’t want to risk it.

Everybody who has ever owned property in Florida with a palm tree on it, actually. My hubby used to sit under our coconut palm in spite of many warnings (he's from VA). One day he was out there and the big one dropped both coconut and front frond. They missed him by inches.

He then removed his chair to the other side of the lawn.

Has anyone checked to make sure there isn’t a coconut that fell out of the tree bringing the frond down with it and rolled away after bouncing off that windshield?

its not, this palm tree has really small coconuts and it was not producing any at all
