Crown fell out one month before insurance kicks in
Dentemp should help here but crown decided to say goodbye while eating taquitos. I hope i can get it reattached professionally and that it stays in my mouth while I sleep :)
Edit: I glued it back on with dental glue after carefully cleaning everything. It stayed in all night no issues. Appreciate the responses
Edit 2: appointment made for today, if they can just cement it back in and do xrays its going to be like 150 bucks. I can live with that

You wouldn't believe it. I remember it like it was yesterday. It was Thursday Oct 01, 2026, 5.16pm 37 sec. The weather was nice. My friends crown fell out while we were enjoying some good food together.
Just go get it recemented now for $80. In a month, the tooth behind it can shift forward and the crown will be more difficult to recement because itāll need adjustments to the interproximal margins. And sometime those adjustments arenāt even possible and people end up needing a new crown, which is more like $1200 without insurance.

I had a filling come out and that shit was immensely painful until it got fixed. I imagine having the crown out would also be pretty motivating. I think people like "oh just wait" aren't familiar with bad dental pain.
I've had a handful of dental issues over the last few years. Including four crowns. I can imagine that if one of them came off, it would probably hurt quite a bit. Although they did root canal those teeth, so maybe not. I do notice that those teeth are no longer sensitive to temperature like the other ones are.
I lost a crown once so went to the dentist about it. They took x-rays because it had been a while and were like āthey this tooth on the other side needs a root canal sorry.ā I make an appointment to return and what do they take care of? The root canal. So Iām walking around with a temporary crown on one side and a naked spot on the other because they didnāt even put a temp crown on the original tooth I came in for
I once had a dentist that actually billed the appointment a month later after i got insurance. I had a painful cavity that he wanted to treat asap. It was really nice of him
Buy dentemp repair kit on Amazon. My permanent bridge fell off two weeks ago and Iāve only had to glue it back on twice until I can get in to the dentist in a few weeks.
Please donāt do this! Itās hard to clean out of crowns and can affect the bond when you recement. It also creates a breeding ground for bacteria to eat your restorable tooth. If itās in the smile line and youāre self-conscious youāre better off using toothpaste or Vaseline to stick it on.
I just want to sigh to myself a thousand times if this is an actual thing. My crown fell out years ago and I tossed it in the garbage. Both of them. Been dealing with an empty socket.
Iām hopping in here to say if youāre not going to get it worked on for a while you need to pop it in during the days and keep the gap open. The gap between those teeth will close and the crown wonāt fit when you go to get it re set. You need to keep the crown in there enough to not let those outside teeth close in before it gets re set permanently.
Yea. I haven't chewed on that side for that long. My other side gets work done cause it's cheaper than restoring the crown. Silly young me went to a dentist school for cheap crowns. Canada for dental coverage is the worst.
Go to a pharmacy. Get the OTC temporary filling material. Line your crown with it. Clean the area well make sure itās dry and bite down on the crown. Iām sure you most likely had some sort of material on your tooth. The temp filling stuff will adhere to it. Then head into the dentist when insurance kicks in.
I had a filling fall out and used this stuff. It lasted for a year. Dentist was surprised I got it to hold that long. But Iāve got mad dental assisting skills. CA RDA
Im a dentist. I don't recommend this. Have the wrong piece of bacteria hanging out on the tooth when the crown is glued back on and youre creating an environment where it could potentially go nuts and eat the tooth from the inside.
Honestly
A) leave the crown off and brush it as is, as long as youre asymptomatic.
B) have the dentist cement it back on. Assuming it fits you don't need to buy a new crown
Guessing USA. Dental isn't included in health insurance here and even if you have it your out of pocket costs will probably be huge for any substantial work
I just left a giant hole in my tooth and cleaned it thoroughly twice a day. No decay when I had it re-filled over a year later. Hygiene works lol
Anyways, I donāt recommend the temporary filling material. It wonāt hold well enough and OP risks swallowing it or biting into it if it falls off while eating.
I was gonna say thatās one well worn crown. Talk to your dentist and see if they advise using temporary crown cement on it or if they want you to leave it off entirely until they see you.
I already used dentemp as recommended from a family dentist! (I live nowhere near them lol) so just gotta wait until the morning wasnt sure if leaving it off would be ok, its far back in my mouth right before my wisdom teeth too lol
I have news for you! Insurance date will be the date of installation. So get the work done, get the temporary crown put in and try and hold off getting the final crown.
Best to perhaps bring that up with the dentist because of the pre auth and not take my word for it.
Not sure if this is helpful but i need a crown. Was quoted 7-800 WITH insurance. Decided to do someone begging on Reddit a solid and let them clean my teeth at the dental school (which didnāt realize at the time they did a deep clean which I was quoted at 800 with insurance the month before and the student covered the cost) and referred me to the dental school for the crown I needed and itās 4-500. So cheaper than even using my insurance. Itās a HUGE time commitment, heads up, BUT if it helps might be worth looking into. It took 16 hours for my deep clean but again saved me 800 dollars. And I have my appointment to start my crown tomorrow. Student did tell me it would be 3-4 2-3 hour appointments tho. I luckily have the availability right now being between jobs.
When my crown fell out I just took it to the dentist within like two days. My dentist immediately cleaned the affected tooth, put some new glue on it, and set it. Didn't charge me anything.
Hey OP, to protect yourself, I suggest deleting this post so that there is no paper trail of when the crown fell out, so the insurance canāt be a bitch and refuse your claim when your crown ACTUALLY falls out a month from now.
Make sure that your new insurance doesn't have a missing tooth clause. Basically if a tooth was already pulled or had work the new insurance might not cover anything to do with it.

Major scam. My husband had a crown fall off. They reattached it and that was covered by insurance. The next time he had problems with it, the insurance wouldnāt cover anything. They only cover it once in five years.
Donāt wait. Get it back in quick. I waited for mine and my mouth changed, crown wouldnāt fit and cracked from modifying it. Had to pay for an all new setup, cost me way more than just going in and getting it reglued.

Denture glue is gonna be your friend! I have one that's just given up entirely but I had to save for the dentist trip to replace it with an implant so I've gotten well acquainted with the glue.
Dry your tooth and the socket, put a tiny bit of the glue on your tooth and wait a few minutes before you put it in so the glue is more gummy. I've kept mine going for three months, just one more to go lol
Never had that happen but as someone who had a crown for years and the tooth below went rotten and snapped off that wayā¦ Iād honestly go for the full procedure, get whatever remaining tooth pulled and get an implant. Yes, itās pricy but by putting a crown back on you risk doing what I did and postponing the inevitable operation anyways which costs even more in the long run. Just a thought but do what you feel is necessary.
I'm 40 and have never had a cavity (Good genes, don't eat much sweets, brush teeth 6-9 times a week) and I have no idea what I'm looking at here. It's gross frankly. Imagine if we just didn't have dentistry and at 20 years old you're on a date and need to order your foot mashed into a paste but it's alright because your date has no teeth along with the waiter and chef, who all understand completely the need for ordering pre-chewed steak.
Call the insurance company and ask if there's anyway to request a short term or bridge plan and explain the situation, they may be able to help you figure out how to 'legal-ize it'
Happened to me this weekend! Just plopped out. Went to a dentist today to see if they can place it back, they recommended a new crown. Now I gotta fight insurance to get my money back for the old one so I can pay for the new one. Fuck dental problems, Iām over it.
If anyone has this happen to them, I was told to dry the area and apply some toothpaste before fitting it back on. Apparently the grit holds it in place until you can get back in. Most dentist offices consider that an emergency, and can get you temporarily glued pretty quick.Ā
The number of people saying āit happened a month from nowā clearly donāt understand how dental insurance works. Itās all frequency based and follows you from carrier to carrier.
Just get some Dentemp, itās a ZOE material we use often to fill large cavities after performing root canals. It helps with sensitivity too. It can also work as a cement and is activated by saliva.
Chew on the other side, keep it clean and when you floss just pull the string out from the side to avoid pulling it off. Donāt use floss sticks.
I just cleaned the dried glue out of my crown and dried the crown and stump off really well. Then put some super glue on the crown and stuck it back on. It held for several months til my next appointment. They actually had a helluva time getting it off. Dentist freaked out about my use of super glue until I explained to him its a common wound closure device.
Well, even with insurance it's going to be well over 1k to replace it. When it comes to teeth it's really more of a discount card than and insurance card. But, I don't think it matters when it happened, your insurance will still "cover it" if you can keep it cool til it kicks in. But, again, they really only give you a discount. So, don't excited.

No it didn't. It will "fall out" in one month + one week and you will tell the dentist it fell out a week prior but you had no chance to get to a dentist. Make sure you brush and floss and use mouthwash every single day. Keep that mouth fresh
I had a front tooth that was bad and had a lerg feeling to it. Well it just started to give me real bad pain and would bend over from it. They wanted to give me a crown as well. From what I seen and what my parents delt with crowns dont last and fall out. Or sometimes the tooth under it rots or something happend to it and it needs to be removed. My mom had one it cracked and fell out or just fell out one of the time. She just told them to yank the dang thing. So I have my tooth removed now I look weird. Well after a few days I get a text saying my insuranceĀ would cover the crown but never said anything about takeing the root out. Why do the crown but not the root it need both done. I was kind of pissed about this to and no one told me they sent it in to them to see if they would cover it.
How does a crown like this attach? Ones I have are glued onto a metal pin that itself is glued into the tooth. On pic it looks like there are several broken ones.

Dude, hold on to that crown. If your tooth isn't killing you, wait the 30 days and then get it done. I waited a year for mine. Seriously. Dr. told me I was genius for holding on to it when it fell out.
I had that happen before and I used denture glue. Itās temporary and I took it out every night before sleeping. Should come in a little tube and you just need a little dab, then pulling it out is simple every night.
Iām just a dental assistant so take this with a grain of Colgate but itās probably cheaper to do the crown at an office with a discount plan in place than to wait for insurance to kick in. You donāt know what your new dental policy covers yet but a lot of plans unfortunately have a waiting period for benefits to kick in for bigger procedures like crowns and root canals. The tooth is prepped down to the dentin when we do crowns so thereās no more protective enamel on that tooth. Dentin is super soft compared to enamel so bacteria that causes tooth decay can burrow into the tooth more while you wait. At least get it checked out at the dentist in the mean time. If the tooth has no decay and the crown fits well on the margins, thereās a chance your dentist can just re cement it in for waayyyyy cheaper than getting a new crown on it.
All that to say, donāt wait to see the doctor for this one dude.
