It's so funny watching the cycle repeat over and over, the next new gen of kids growing up, lecturing people on how things are changing, how their generation is the one bringing the change. Push comes to shove they then can't even be bothered to clean up after themselves because they're tired and hungover - a micro example of how people talk big, especially online, but in reality people don't change. 'Progress' is an illusion and the sooner you realise it the sooner you can stop wittering about stupid little social causes on the internet and re-focus on the big one - saving us, and not in the religious BS sense.

We need top down authoritarian control telling people how to live with an iron fist or we're fucked as a species. All you ever get otherwise is lip service, wishful thinking and denial. And no, it wouldn't be fun but its the only out we have.

I'm a millennial and I remember when other millennials i knew were talking up this big game about "finding themselves spiritually" and "rejecting materialism" blah blah blah blah

Every fucking millennial I know who is married and has kids has become those boring ass suburbanites who think mowing their lawn is a passion project and will end up voting Republican once more and more blacks and Latinos start moving into their neighborhoods.

It's such a tired joke. All these fucking young people who talk up the environment will drive gas guzzlers within 5-10 years I guarantee it

You said it man. It really needs to stop being a tired joke though- we're genuinely running out of time. A lot of that shit on the field in the video above ends up in the sea in a round-a-bout way... a sea with rising pollution, rising temps, and very little fish left. The cycle of being determined to bring about change... then passing 25, starting careers and families and changing without realising it into just another consuming blob who wants to look after his little blobs, giving them and equal or better life to what you had... it feeds capitalistic economies but its cancer.

They need to be reminded there is a price, one they once claimed to know but have now forgotten. The earth itself will be fine, and has bounced back from multiple various types of mass extinction. But humans are incredibly reliant on the environment we evolved in and the relatively stable earth of the last 2 to 3 million years. We are fragile, and are not going to cope well at all with with the next self-inflicted extinction of our toxic super-heated wastelands.

An opinion is the belief of one person. Why is it such a hard concept to divide what is a fact and an opinion? It shouldn't be so mind-boggling. Of course, in an ideal scenario, any opinion should be respected as long as it's not about encouraging wrong-doing or harmful habits. This is one of the scenarios where it normalizes and minimizes the effects of this grand-scale wrong-doing and horrible habit.

But seriously, one person claiming the earth is flat is their opinion. Facts say otherwise, they say it's round, and people go with that as well, and that is their opinion. One is true and one is false, so yes. Opinions can be wrong.

It's actually normal for folks to be initially put-off by what I presented. Technically, all opinions can be true because that's what everyone believes is true. But it's not like opinions are fact, something we all tend to forget considering how inclusive and non-questioning we've been raised as under the consequence of being accused or disrespected if we do question anybody's opinion.

What the fuck is people's issue with thinking that somebody attacking somebody else's logic is defending somebody else?

They are attacking somebody else insulting the character of somebody based on their opinion, that's completely separate from defending that person it's pointing out something that the other person is doing.

Do people seriously not understand the difference between somebody attacking someone or a mistake and them defending the person that mistake happens to be about?
