I don’t understand why people are leaving their tents? It’s like 5 minutes to break down and a decent tent isn’t cheap?!?

As an avid Camper I came here to say this.

Don't lend your tent..."oh man, I forgot it, uh"

Cause they’re either crap tents, or the kids who had them pissed in them etc, or the kids who own them are coming down into the worst Gary depression they’ve had in their life

Or they view them as disposable like so much else they buy these days

Cause they probably are disposable. Stuff has been made since the 90s to hold up being used once and then fall apart. Manufactured waste is the term.

I thought it was planned obsolescence

Why’s it called Gary depression

Jerry/Gary are terms used in a number of subcultures to refer to tourists within the subculture. Like folks that do your hobby once or twice a year, don’t have planning or gear or whatever to really hack it. That’s my best guess. So in this instance I think he is referring to folks who can’t handle their drugs or at least the comedown without being asses. It’s a right of passage, I remember doing similarly stupid stuff before you can handle being on acid for 3 days straight.

No it’s people who fly in to festivals and buy camping gear like it’s disposable—pickup at the Walmart by the airport in the rental car, litter on campgrounds when it’s time to leave

Full confession: I’ve been a person who left a tent at a festival. And the short answer is, I’d basically been drinking and smoking and taking pills and anything I could lay my hands on for 3 days and reality was starting to hit hard by Monday. Don’t think I could have worked out how to put a tent away if you’d given me 5 hours.

Then sleep outside and leave the tent home.

That's so common that I daresay it's basic human behavior.

When I take recreational drugs, I take enough to enhance the experience. Everybody else I know takes enough to be the experience.

I arrive and take a hit of mesc. I might take another hit about 3 or 4 hours later. I'm happy af watching the party unfold. Everyone else takes 2 or 3 hits right upon arrival and ends up screaming at the walls.

We are not the same.

(probably dated myself by talking about scleeners)

People fly in, stop at a store and buy everything they need for the weekend and leave it because it’s not worth flying it home.

They dont look like decent tents. Probably 30-$40

But then you need to travel with it back home and story it, and there's a good chance the tent isn't in a good state. If you do have a good tent brining it to general camping at reading might not be the best idea.

they dont leave good tents, they buy the cheapest $40 tents you can get and then ditch them since most of them don't use them for camping anyway.

I'll bet most of those tents are not "decent tents". $15 specials (?).
