Okay so we've had several people come by the house I'm currently renting, and the poor things have been all scammed by these people posing as realtors and private landowners saying that the house on James st is for rent in Morgantown. Please guys if you are looking to rent a property please go look at it and see if someone lives there first before sending money, never ever give anyone money online, it should never cost money to request a viewing of the property and real landlords who are wanting to rent units out will not be shy to come meet you in person. So far redfin.com, zillow.com, rent.com, and so on have been showing the house on James st is for rent and it is not currently. My husband and I was fortunate enough to find a billboard with a realtors name and number and she literally had one available for us right then and there and we met her in person and she gave us a full tour of the house and we had to sign a contract before we gave her money. So always always make sure you can meet the individual in person and always make sure it is legit before giving money. I'm so so sorry to the ones who lost money, I hate thieves so much especially those preying on the young and elderly and vulnerable. Never go through Facebook, Craigslist, or unverified online sources. My family and I moved here a month ago from about 16 hours away and almost fell for a scam on a house in Fairmont but thankfully something told us to meet these people in person before sending money and when they didn't want to meet, I called them out. So please guys, stay online aware and always make sure of the sources and always ask for a viewing in person and meet them before agreeing and sending money.

Today, a news story caught my attention: Governor Morrisey said that a West Virginia family assistance program is running out of money.

West Virginia has a population of approximately 1.77 million people. The state government manages many different agencies and public services from healthcare and education to public safety, transportation, information technology, and social assistance programs. These services are funded through a combination of state revenue and federal funding.

West Virginia's revenue comes from several sources, including:

• State taxes
• Fees and licenses
• Lottery revenue
• Fines and penalties
• Federal funding
• Other state revenue sources

This raised an interesting question for me.

Not all 1.77 million West Virginia residents depend on programs such as TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families). The population includes working adults, students, children, retirees, and people who may never use this particular assistance program. Therefore, the number of people actually receiving TANF is only a fraction of the state's total population.

If a government serving a relatively small population can reach a point where an important assistance program is running short of funding, it makes me wonder how much larger states with tens of millions of residents successfully manage their budgets and public programs.

Of course, larger populations also generate more tax revenue and economic activity, while at the same time creating greater demand for government services and assistance programs such as TANF.

Ultimately, government budgeting is not simply about population size. It is about forecasting revenue, estimating demand, allocating resources efficiently, controlling expenditures, and adjusting when economic conditions or program participation change.

The question that came to my mind is:

How effectively are governments forecasting and managing public funds, and what causes a program to run short of money even when its eligible population represents only a small portion of the state's total population?

I’m (21) going to be moving from my parents house in ct to my bfs grandparents house in wv at the end of september.
life for me up here has been relatively cushy and safe but im taking this step bc my bf (21) is gonna be getting a big boy job. i dont have a job lined up yet, but im probably gonna find a barista job as i have been a barista for 3+ years.
i make 18.35 right now and i know minimum wage is like 10 dollars less. i’m trying to not freak out over the difference. any like advice or tips on that would be appreciated.
this is my first big move and my like first step towards being more of an adult, but i am a little scared and excited. i’ve only been to wv once and it was to meet my bfs family and it is so pretty. they live in like williamson so i am a little worried about finding a job super close by bc i have health problems that make it hard to drive more than like 15-20 minutes away.

Im planning a 3 day 2 night backpacking trip with my gf at dolly sods over the weekend but this weather forecast is scaring me. Im seeing scattered thunderstorms friday night and random showers all weekend. i would be going friday-sunday. Ive backpacked in light rain and mud before but ive never been outright stormed on. I also did the old rag saddle trail after a storm had passed and im comfortable with doing rock scrambles (carefully) when its slippery. i planned on starting on the northside by bear rocks and heading south to Lions Head and then back out, but with the storm, and reading about the norths lack of coverage, im starting to think im setting myself up for failure. is anyone else also having second thoughts about their trip this weekend? any advice? Dolly Sods is a bucket list adventure of mine and im hoping to take advantage of this holiday weekend.

It's as the title of this post says. For far too long I've been without a driver's license and its kept me from so many things, even some jobs. I'm confident enough to take the test, but my only problem is that I don't have access to a car that I could legally use for the test. My local DMV doesn't offer any kind of driving school vehicles I could borrow, nobody in my family has a vehicle they could let me borrow for it, and none of my friends have cars of their own.
