Nyoongar stargazing & cultural camping weekend — Wheatbelt, WA (Sept 12–13 or 19–20)

Disclosure upfront: I'm involved with the retreat running this, so keep that in mind — but wanted to share given the timing (last of the wildflowers, clear spring skies).

Dr Noel Nannup (Nyoongar Elder, OAM) leads a camping weekend at Yarragin Private Retreat in the Wheatbelt — campfire yarns, Dreamtime stories, and Nyoongar astronomy (how Aboriginal star knowledge reads the night sky differently to Western astronomy), plus guided walks through granite country.

Self-drive, self-catered, one night out under proper dark skies — minimal light pollution out there. Numbers kept small on purpose.

Two dates:

Sept 12–13

Sept 19–20

Happy to answer any questions in the comments if anyone's interested.

WA House and Garage Festival

Myself and some mates are looking to host a festival (community-run, decisions aided by members, like a coop) based on house and garage music. We want it to be all things music and collective, we want to include some random activities that will get people involved, so that we can attract both people who love the music, and people who love an atmosphere.

If you have any ideas of activities or random spaces we could include please let me know (bonus points if it relates to the theme of uniquely WA). Or if you are someone who is keen to get involved in the planning, drop me a note.

PSA: this is community run, please no agencies or commercial intent.

WA One Nation policy

This is how cooked One Nation is. Fund health by scrapping net zero. wtf…

Clean gas free homes, hospitals, pollution free streets. One nation put our electric future at risk.

Tax gas and you could solve health.

One Nation Policy? You’ll find something in it for Gina in the bottom line of every single policy.

We are relocating to WA (Perth) and husband is going to start FIFO soon, I was wondering how hard it is for young families. We have a baby and 2 toddlers.

I have already started using the app Bambini Sleep his new coworkers with kids recommended to record husband’s bedtime stories and lullabies and we have been “practicing” bedtime without him just using his voice and so far it has been working but I’m terrified of how hard it’s going to be.

Is there any additional prep I should be doing? They are used to not seeing him during the day already but the nights are going to be the biggest change

Camper van trip end of October.

Hi folks. Hiring a camper van for the last two weeks of October to have a bimble around esperance and the bottom of WA.

We’ve got a 3.5 year old who’ll be with us.
Any suggestions on campsites or places to see and I imagine I should book now? (We’ve not long booked the trip so please no pile ons about not booking on time)

Cheers

Adventure volunteer work?

Hi all,

I currently have 8 weeks of free time and am looking for and capable of an adventure in WA or close by. I do live in the Perth metro area and am an AU Cit from birth. 4th Gen in fact.

I have professional photography skills and camera equipment, a self sufficient camper and hiker and can do wilderness trips. I am also interested in conservation, am a professional allied health care professional among other things.

So is anyone aware of any volunteer adventures I can take myself on or companies that have a spot that will cover me? I can't earn money right now as I am on long service, but I could tag along and be useful if some expenses are paid.

If it helps, I can cook, am of good spirit and fit into most areas and roles.

Road trip from Perth to Exmouth car camping with nothing booked

Hi, I'm currently living in Perth and about to move to Melbourne. Just came up with this idea to see northern WA up to Exmouth before I leave.

Since I started thinking about it very recently, I have nothing booked at all. I heard that you need to book a spot in a campsite quite in advance but I've seen some free basic campsites on Wikicamp.

I have a 2WD sedan just enough to sleep in but no toilet, shower or whatnot. Can use public toilets and ask caravan parks if I can pay and use their shower??

Not sure if it's even realistic.

I see there are some accommodation available but don't really want to spend a lot of money... Also I'm by myself. No one to share the cost.

Need to leave Perth soon either going to north or to Melbounre. (in a week or so)

Should I just skip the north? I don't know if I'll ever come back to WA once I leave.

The beaches and national parks up there look so nice and I want to escape cold and swim but Idk if I'm making myself troubles by going there without a plan??

Logging by another name

“There's no big trees. Where are all the big trees?”

The WA government replaced native logging with ecological thinning. Should we be surprised it is logging by another name.

Gun shops and general shooting culture in WA

This is a world I’ve never had any association with, the closest thing was when I was a kid my cousin used to live in Bunbury and I remembered going to some outdoors shop with him that had a row of guns hanging on the wall

But I’ve never known anyone who owns a gun nor would I be able to tell you where in Perth a gun shop is

I am however fascinated to learn a bit more about it. What’s the best gun shop in WA? What’s the best shooting range? Is the shooting culture any good around here? Who are the best and worst people in the scene? Whats the funniest moment you’ve had while out shooting?
