I don't think that's true. I bet that a lot of the extremists that now back the US government, like the Heritage Foundation etc, do celebrate the date. It lead to the Patriot Act, which is basically the foundation that was needed for your country to be able to shift into the authoritarianism we see today, while at the same time it offered a new public enemy they so badly needed after the collapse of "evil Russia".

then Fox News has a perfect clip to repeat over a thousand times in less than a week: a dem candidate in a flippable seat saying "celebrate the 25th year of 9/11", also great for the GOP candidate to use for ads.

I think they do want to celebrate 911. It was the day that finally gave them the excuse to really start their authoritarian vision of the end times. It was the excuse to push through the so called P.A.T.R.I.O.T. Act and start the slide to where we are now.
