The Leader and Brains of Team AMRS, Amaryllis Schnee is the adopted daughter of Ruby Rose and Weiss Schnee and adopted sister to Lukas. Originally an orphan living in New Atlas, she attends Beacon Academy to honor her adopted name, and ensure that others like her can grow up safe and happy.
Profile: Born to unknown parents on one of New Atlasâs satellite settlements, Amaryllis remembers little of her early life. Only that she was orphaned at an early age: One of the few survivors of a devastating Grimm attack. Sent to an orphanage in the city, âAmyâ got along well enough with the other kids growing up. However, her natural shyness would make interacting with other people as a whole quite difficult, often impeding her chances of adoption. As such, Amaryllis tended to keep to herself, unsure of whether sheâd ever find a home.
All of that changed one wintery day when, after being separated during a group outing, Amaryllis would come across a boy her age named Lukas - Along with his mothers: Ruby Rose and Weiss Schnee. Mistaking her for a lost child, Lukas insisted she come home with them. To which, the pair both agreed, despite Weissâs initial protests. During this time, a connection would quickly begin to form between them that would be not easily broken, even after she revealed the truth the next morning, before returning home willingly. Not long after, the pair would begin to visit her regularly, eventually offering to adopt her into their family - an offer she happily accepted.
Finally having a home and family of her own, Amaryllis soon benefited from their unconditional love and support, as she began to form new friendships and explore her talents - most notably, engineering. Her new life was not without its challenges, though, as she had to work hard to meet the expectations of Atlesian high society. Something exacerbated by the prejudice she faced for her âuncertainâ origins: Many of her peers would whisper that she had âlucked out,â claiming she didnât deserve her place in the Schnee family, and even accusing her of manipulating her adoptive family.
While she was able to carry on thanks to her loved ones, it was hoped that a family vacation would help to alleviate her troubles. Instead, Amaryllis would witness the suffering caused by the Battle of Kuroyuri - an event that destroyed families, and triggered in her memories long-buried. And yet, this harrowing experience would also instill a sense of purpose in her: To protect others from suffering the pain of loss, as she and so many others had. And so, Amaryllis chose to become a Huntress, hoping to harness her good fortune for the benefit of others, and to repay those who had helped her to blossom in her own right.
Personality: Bright, diligent, and a bit of a perfectionist, Amaryllis is an avid technophile with a keen eye for detail, reflective of deeply introspective nature. Having inherited âMama Rubyâsâ love for weapons and engineering, âAmyâ has become a capable tinkerer in her own right. She takes great pride and enthusiasm in her work, often spending long hours in the workshop testing and refining her ideas until theyâre just right.
While not as timid as she used to be, Amaryllis still retains her shy demeanor, and can thus be a bit more on the reserved side. As such, she often prefers to stop and think things through first, considering all of her options before taking any course of action. She also possesses a tendency to hyperfocus on her work, often losing track of time â and pretty much everything else. Indeed, it's not uncommon for her to tune people out, forget to eat, or skip sleep in pursuit of perfection.
All of this can make her come off as âdistant,â âaloof,â even âscaryâ at first glance. Often affecting her interpersonal interactions, despite her best efforts to be more sociable. However, those who take the time to get to know Amaryllis will find a kind, thoughtful, and earnest young lady who works hard to connect with others. One who greatly cherishes the bonds she has made with friends and loved ones, often putting their needs before her own, even to her own detriment.
Weapon: Scarlet Bloom, a Variable Function Weapons Platform (VFWP) that, by default, takes the form of a medium-sized shield with an internal Dust cylinder. It can generate Hard-Light barriers for additional defense and can also function as a striking implement, thanks to the reinforced tips on the top and bottom and the ability to channel Dust from the chamber for elemental effects. For dedicated melee combat, it can also transform into a Pata, able to channel Dust similarly to the shield.
Its most prominent feature, however, is its various built-in armaments and tools; most notable of which is the Dust Blaster, which draws from the internal cylinder to fire various types of Dust beams. It fires in a semi-automatic manner by default, though Amaryllis can spam the trigger for a faster firing rate; Alternatively, she can hold it down to fire more powerful charged shots after a brief period, or continuous streams of Dust akin to a flamethrower for close-quarters crowd control.
Besides the Blaster, Scarlet Bloomâs other most prominent features are:
- Two multi-launcher tubes set to each side of the Dust Blaster, able to be loaded with a variety of projectiles. Including: netguns, flares, miniature missiles, bombs, or grenades, and even darts with some modifications.
- A grapnel gun located above the Blaster, which fires a light yet sturdy âwhipcordâ with a grappling hook attached. It can be used to restrain enemies, swing across gaps, and climb or even rappel up surfaces by retracting or detaching the whipcord.
As well as various miscellaneous features and systems. Altogether, this varied arsenal ensures that Amaryllis is capable of adapting to a variety of situations, so as to help compensate for her less combat-focused Semblance.
Additional equipment: A utility belt with a wide variety of âmission specificâ equipment, i.e. sunblock, rubber bands, various kinds of repellent, mirrors (in case of *frickinâ laser beams!!), etcâŚ
Semblance: Heartâs Echo, through which Amaryllis can sense what people in her vicinity are feeling, perceiving them as audible sounds. By default, these emotions manifest as faint 'whispers' or 'echoes,' conveying a semblance of the subjectsâ feelings in real-time. Amaryllis can focus on specific âvoicesâ so as to better understand them, and even track the subject(s) through them across a certain distance.
Conversely, she has, through practice, learned how to muffle or even tune out these âvoices.â Something which has helped with her Semblance's biggest drawback: sensory overload. As too many voices at once - especially strong emotions, whether positive or negative - can spread her attention thin, overwhelming her if sheâs not careful.
