I updated to the appropriate build and the options still aren't there for me. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

It’s another gradual roll out thing, even though it sucks that they do it, if they rushed it to your device, it could break something, they have to go through testing

I was excited to turn on vertical taskbar... but now I see the horizontal taskbar has been burned into my screen LOL

I'm always confused about people who put their taskbar at the top. Now you have to be more precise when reaching for the menu bar of your current app.

I imagine those used to Mac OS would like to do that.

Those are very sick people who need help. Also, in MacOS this top bar is the menu of whatever application has the focus. It's terrible UX design, but you don't have the same issue.

I will temporarily move it to the top if I need to have my laptop sitting in front of my monitor for a video call. The laptop screen blocks just enough of my monitor that I cannot see the taskbar at the bottom.

I have the taskbar at the top often. It's never caused an issue. I also rarely use the menu bar, to the point I often just hide it and use keyboard shortcuts.

Putting the taskbar on the top has advantages. Makes your eyes focus on the top of the screen, because thats where you: switch apps, watch for flashing apps notifications or badges, systray icons, choose menus and toolbars for the focused maximized app, etc. Because of all that it will also reduce the necessary mouse movement, making everything faster.

Most programs have on-top toolbars and ribbons, why I can't do the same with the taskbar?
Also better accessibility, it's easier on my trackball hand moving the cursor up instead of down.

Taskbar icon alignment definitely should not be center.
Far to long after experimental windows 11 system was introduced to not use 3rd party software to setup taks bar proper. Forcing one proper look for win11 from start was very bad strategy, they didn't listen for user for far to long. Finlay this is a system option, but damage was permanently done, and some people just left windows.

How M$ managed to bork the one thing that worked, then lied it was unavoidable, then gradually roll it back, is tragicomedic.

I just use StartAllBack. €5 and I got all the functionality and customisability I had with Windows 10, but in Windows 11, and without needing to wait for Microsoft to unfuck the things they fucked through sheer incompetence and laziness.

Same, mostly for the ability to move the Taskbar to the top. Just installed the latest update to test the native functionality....we'll see how it goes.

The thing is StartAllBack changes the default taskbar to a custom one resembling the classic taskbar with a custom style to make look W11-ish, it's not the same if you want the default taskbar for a truer W11 experience but obviously want to customize it than completely replace it then Windhawk's approach the right way to go at it and Microsoft finally bringing back these essential options will be more truer for that, so while StartAllBack is a great alternative even at a price it is something different.

They messed up that feature. I do have it, but I am on the insider channel, and also had to use vivetool...

It came back with last update preview. Just need some Vivetool codes (https://pureinfotech.com/vivetool-codes-enable-features-windows-11/) to enable.
But be aware, preview has some optical bugs to mouse pointer and background!
