Hi!
Wanted to share some expressions studies I just finished. 10-15 minutes. As you can see I have NOT drawn dragons from the front often 😬 as with drawing them solely facing the right. This helps me so much, helping me realise WHAT I need to work on.
Thank you for reading! I hope you enjoy them!

Good evening there!

Today presenting: Starflight!
Random generator being random, haha, but I really enjoyed working on him. Really love the design of Nightwings and experimenting on them, figuring out their logistics with spines and stuff. Wanted to highlight his more shy persona with this one - as I also really reonate with it on a personal level. And also, additional fact: His book was my favourite from the first arc! There was just something really ominous and also cool surrounding the whole premise. And his PoV was pretty fun.

Hope yall enjoy him!

Art by me, Anfani is just my artist name

(Pics of recent art, with not a lot of dragons because I need more !)

Hello ! I want to make some dragon drawings to give as examples in my futur commission TOS. Since I don’t have a lot of dragon OCs myself, I thought I might as well draw some beloved OCs !

All the spots are taken

Digital charadesign sheet: 1 / 1
(an A3, 300dpi, sheet with one full body illustration (colored, rendered) of your character + 2-4 uncolored sketches to show different aspects of their design or personnality)

Digital portrait: 2 / 2
(an A4, 300dpi, illustration of your character (colored, rendered), cropped to the neck/bust depending of composition)

Ink + digital color portrait: 1 / 1
(an ~A5 traditional ink drawing + a version with added digital colors)

To submit your OC, write a comment with a pic of them (and a short description) and what spot you’d like. I’ll ask you to go to PM (discord preferred, reddit PM are fine) if I’m interested.

Keep in mind that you’ll need to provide me with clear informations for the drawing: reference pictures, description of your OC’s design and personnality (don’t hesitate to repeat things we can see in the image references, for it could avoid misinterpretations), and anything that you think is important for me to know. Telling me what pose/vibe you want it also great, though I can improvise some of it if you don’t have a clear idea.

I have a preference for OCs with accessories or otherwise pretty detailed designs !

I’ll send you a rough sketch for you to approve the pose/composition. I’ll also send you the finished version: you can then ask for a few minor changes (of course, these will be way more limited for the lineart of ink drawings). I’ll send you the high definition picture by email, or maybe via a website like Wetransfer if the file is too heavy.

These are for free and I’m busy, so I can’t give a clear deadline for me to finish them.

Thank you !

So originally based on a Kurzgesagt video, but as it turns out some of the numbers aren't quite true, with a normal Earth (unrecorded), you can actually push the numbers so the moons are actually heavier than our own moon, as long as they are of the same mass. With a planet the mass of Pyrrhia (as heavily implied to be a super Earth, hence the increase in mass), there's a lot more wiggle room for the mass of the three moons. Just something I wanted to simulate because I could x3

Meet Slatewriter, the youngest of Moon & Qibli’s dragonets. He hatched on the brightest night, giving him the same level of nightwing power as Darkstalker, however instead of getting normal venom, his tail produces a powerful neurotoxin that sends other dragons into either a panic due to what they see, or they get stunlocked. He was born blind so the only way he can see is through his visions, but that’s not very useful to someone who’s never seen the world. He also aided in the creation of the dragon version of braille (carving the letters into a hard surface to leave a dent that can be felt)

Discussion If Wings of Fire were to do an official collab or crossover what would you want it to be like?

I would like to hear as much or as little details to any of the following as you are willing to give no matter how outlandish!

What IP would it crossover with? HTTYD? Spyro? DC? Marvel? Mortal Kombat? Warhammer? IT? Helldivers? God of War? anything!

What kind of media would it be? A book? A comic? A show? A Movie? A game?

What are specific characters, items, locations or other details that you want to see based on the first two things? Do you want a dreamvister backpack in Fortnight with a Peril skin? Mabey fight Darkstalker as Kratos? The DoD meet Scooby Doo? Perhaps see Wren and Sky become Ghost Rider? Something else? There is no limit here!

Fanfic Adventures of the Crazy-Lace Winglet, Chapter 9 (book 16 spoilers) Spoiler

Chapter 9:  Mysteries in Bloom

Heron awoke on the second day of the field trip to the rainforest with excitement.  She couldn't wait to go visit the Nightwing village!  The previous day she had asked many Rainwings if they knew any history regarding art or pottery usage in the tribe.  Sadly, nobody seemed to be able to remember anything, and of course, the Rainwings had no historical scrolls to study either.  It was sad to see, but today would be different!  The Nightwings love scrolls, surely they would have some historical scrolls on Nightwing art forms that would be a great inspiration for future pottery projects!

She stood up and stretched.  Around her, some students were still sleeping, while others had already gotten up to chat or get in some early morning hunting.  She was about to go find Dirtdobber to see if he wanted to grab a snack before they headed to the Nightwing village when she spotted her clawmates, Viperfish and Spindle, talking together with an odd dragon from the Pearl Winglet whose red and light blue scales were perfectly divided in half on either side of his body.  She was curious, so she walked over to see what they were up to.

“Hey, Spindle and Viperfish!”  She called to them as she approached, “Are you guys excited to visit the Nightwings today?”

“Hi hi, Heron!” Spindle replied, “I am SO EXCITED!  We were just talking about some SUPER CRAZY mysteries and I was going to ask the Nightwings about- EEP!”  She cut off mid-sentence as Viperfish stomped on her tail, “I mean- uh… we were talking about VERY NORMAL and ORDINARY things!  Yes!  I was going to ask the Nightwings about… uh… like, history and junk, you know?  Yes!  Regular old history stuff!”

“Oh, ok.  Sounds neat!”  Heron replied, “Hey, is that armband new?  It looks really neat!”

“Oh, uh… this armband, yes.” Spindle glanced over at Viperfish, and even though she was wearing a blindfold, Viperfish looked like she was staring holes into Spindle. “Erm, I uh… found it… under a leaf.  Yes!  That is where it was, under a random leaf!”

“Oh, that's pretty lucky that you found the one leaf it was under then!  It's very pretty!  You gotta let me examine it sometime, I bet it could inspire some really cool designs for plates or bowls!  Oh, speaking of plates and bowls, I was about to ask Dirtdobber if he wanted to catch some breakfast with me.  You guys want to join?”

“Maybe later,”  Viperfish said, “But thanks for the offer!”

‘Wow, they are so cool!’  Heron thought as she walked away, ‘I wish I was lucky enough to find a cool armband under a leaf!’

She wandered around looking for Dirtdobber when suddenly he landed right in front of her.

“Hey, Heron!  I was looking for you!”

“I was actually just looking for you!  I was gonna ask if you wanted to go hunting for breakfast?”

“I already got that covered!  Check this out!”  Dirtdobber tipped over the sack he was carrying and a bunch of various different fruits came out. “I gathered as many different fruits as I could find so we could taste them all and see which flavors go best together!  What do you think?”

“That's so cool!  Let's do it!”

Heron and Dirtdobber tried different fruits and compared flavors.  They eventually came up with a perfect fruit salad combination, but it was missing something.

“This is almost perfect, but I feel like it needs a little something extra,” Heron pointed out.

Just then, a cheerful little black dragonet with a smattering of rainbow scales under his wings came bounding out of the forest, startling both Dirtdobber and Heron.

“Try these!”  He exclaimed.  He held out his talons to Dirtdobber and Heron, showing off a bunch of strawberries he had gathered, “Strawberries are the best!  They make everything better!  Cant have a fruit salad without em I say!”

“Oh, that's right!  I forgot to get strawberries when I was gathering fruit!  That's it!”  Dirtdobber said.  The little black dragon handed the strawberries to Dirtdobber, and he added them to the salad.

“There, now its perfect!”  the dragonet exclaimed.

“Peacemaker, darling,” called a voice from in the forest, "don't bother the students, honey.  They are on an important field trip!”

“Aww, I guess I gotta go,” Peacemaker said sadly, “Hope you guys enjoy the strawberries though!  Make sure to remember if you ever need some extra flavor, strawberries are the way to go! Bye!”  And with that, he dashed back into the forest.

“He makes a good point, strawberries are great!  I'm making a note of this!”  Dirtdobber pulled out his journal and jotted down the recipe for the fruit salad, making sure to note the extra strawberries.

“Looks like the others are gathering to head to the Nightwing village.  Lets go meet up with them.”  Heron stated.

Heron and Dirtdobber headed over to where the others had gathered, and met of with the rest of their winglet.  The rest of their winglet seemed to be discussing something, but when Heron and Dirtdobber arrived, they all went quiet.

“...What?  What is it?”  Heron asked, confused.

“Oh, uh, its nothing important.  Just, um, lovely weather today, isn't it?”  Shadowhunter answered nervously.

“Yessss…. I suppose it is…”  Heron was very curious now. She glanced over at where Spindle was standing, remembering how awkwardly she had acted earlier.  Spindle’s eyes went wide and she turned quickly, whistling to herself.

“Ok, that's it!  I know you guys are up to something!  I know whatever it is has to do with the Nightwings and that armband Spindle has!  Come on, whatever it is, me and Dirtdobber can keep a secret!  Right?”  She turned to Dirtdobber.

“What?  Oh, uh-  yeah!  I'm like, the best secret keeper that ever keeped- uh, kept a secret!  Yeah, they might as well call me Dirtdobber the secret guy!”

“See?”  Heron exclaimed, “We are so good at keeping secrets!”

Nightshade squinted at them, tapping his chin in thought.  Then he turned and whispered something into Desertglass’s ear, who promptly turned and whispered to Shadowhunter, who nodded.

“Enough whispering, just spill the beans!”

Desertglass spoke up, “Ok, we will tell you.  Now that Nightshade mentioned it, you are the last two members of the Crazy-Lace Winglet who don't know, so we will tell you.”

“Wait wait, members of the what now?”  Heron asked, confused again.

‘Oh, sorry, I forgot.  Crazy-Lace Winglet is a nickname for our winglet that Rust came up with, and it kinda stuck,”  Desertglass chuckled, and Rust rolled his eyes disapprovingly, “Sounds cooler than Agate Winglet, right?”

“Well, that does sound cooler.  But back to the secret, what have you guys been up to?”

“Oh, right, yes!  Shadowhunter, why don't you explain the dreams first?”

“Ok,” Shadowhunter replied, “So, as a seer, I sometimes get minor visions of the future.  However, recently I had a series of dreams that were seemingly visions of the past?  It was very strange.  In the dreams, I saw an island with a strange tree, and there were strange dragons there.  A lot of weird unexplainable things.  But one very important thing that happened was that I was seemingly able to communicate with an ancient Nightwing animus named Dreamweaver.  He told me that he was controlling those dreams I was having, and that he had a prophecy for me that would appear when the time was right.  I know, not very helpful, he could have just told me what it was, but no.  I guess he has his reasons.  But he did make it clear that Viperfish had to come with us on a treasure hunt.  And that was true, if it weren't for her, we wouldn't have been able to find the treasure.”

“Yeah, I did do that.  It was pretty cool!”  Viperfish exclaimed.  She pulled a set of obsidian neckbands out of her bag and displayed them proudly, “I found the cool neckbands in a weird underwater room type thing.  There was some crazy stuff down there.  There was a hatch that seemingly led to another room, but it was locked, so I have no idea what is on the other side.”

“Hey, I didn't know you brought the neckbands with you,”  Desertglass asked, "Wouldn't it be better to keep them safe back at the academy?”

“I thought about that, but according to the note that was with them, you can survive in impossible situations or something, so I thought they may be nice to have on me.” Viperfish smacked herself in the face, “Shoot, I totally could have used these last night…”

“Anyways, Dreamweaver and the prophecy he spoke of seem to be very important, so we have been trying to gather information to figure out the mystery.” Desertglass explained, “that's what we want to ask the Nightwings about.  We think it has to do with this-”

Desertglass dug into his satchel and pulled out a compass dotted with variously colored gems.  “This compass was enchanted to be able to locate lost treasure and artifacts, and each of its gems symbolize a tribe’s territory.”

“That thing is pretty cool!”  Heron exclaimed, “Weird, it's just about the same shape and size as Spindle’s new armband.”

Nightshade’s eye seemed to twitch slightly, and he glanced back and forth between Spindle and Desertglass for a moment, then spoke up. “Well, that gives me an idea! You all will want to be around to see this, so after everyone goes to sleep tonight, meet me back here, and I will explain my plan.  I think it's time we unravel this mystery for good!  Gather as much intel as you can from the Nightwings, if any of them know anything that is.  We will discuss any intel when we meet back here.”

“Can I bring Frostburn with us?”  Asked Viperfish, “He was pretty helpful, and I'm sure he can provide valuable intel too.”

Nightshade looked over at Frostburn, who was standing a ways away, talking with his own winglet. “Not just yet, Viperfish.  He is important too, but his time will come.  Later.”

“Alright, students!  It's time to head off to the Nightwing village!”  Called Deathbringer from the edge of the clearing, gathering the attention of the members of the Crazy-Lace Winglet.  “Everyone gather together so we can do a head count!”

“Remember, gather what information you can and meet me back here tonight!”  Nightshade called before heading over to where the Pearl Winglet was beginning to gather.

After both winglets had gathered and Deathbringer and the Professor had made sure everyone was accounted for, they took off towards the Nightwing village.  They stayed single file so they could dodge trees and vines and branches that seemed to pop out of nowhere.  Eventually they arrived in the village, where the architecture was surprisingly artistic.  Heron noted that some of the buildings were so architecturally unique, that it looked like someone had drawn it on paper and then popped the drawing into reality.  It was a truly amazing sight!

They began to follow Deathbringer through the streets of the Nightwing village.  The designs of all the streets and buildings and decorations were beautiful.  Eventually, they reached the center of the village, a large open gathering space surrounded by streets and buildings.  The centerpiece of the village was truly magnificent.  In the center of the gathering area, the street perfectly formed a large open circle surrounded by a short wall that was topped by a metal fence and had a gate on one side.  The earth and soil were exposed in the center of this circular area, and out of it was a fairly small tree.  But it didn't look like a natural tree at all.  In fact, it almost looked like it was made of ice, and from its branches grew some very odd, glowing spheres.  In fact, it almost looked like-

“Wait a minute!  That tree looks exactly like the Gift of Light from the Ice Kingdom!  How did a copy of it end up here!?”  Exclaimed Iceosceles.

“Ah, very observant!  And a great question!  A few years ago, Queen Glory worked out a deal with the late Queen Glacier of the Icewings.  We had a wanted Icewing captive here in the rainforest, and traded them back to Queen Glacier.  Part of that trade deal was that Queen Glory received a few clippings of the Moon Globe tree from the Ice Kingdom!  She grew one near the Rainwing Village, and gave one of the clippings to the Nightwings so they could grow one as well!  The tree is still young, it will grow to the size of the one in the Ice Kingdom given a few more years though!  All of the light fixtures here in the Nightwing village use moon globes!”

Heron looked around at all of the artistic lamp posts that were dotted around.  Sure enough, each one had a moon globe hovering slightly above it.  Along with all the artistic structures, the Moon Globe lamps gave the whole village a whimsical, magic feel.  It was amazing!

“If any of the Nightwings here even need an extra light source, they can always come here and collect a moon globe!  This tree works exactly like the one in the Ice Kingdom!  Watch this!”  Deathbringer opened the gate and stepped into the center circle with the tree.  He plucked a globe off of its branch, and immediately, a new bud appeared in its place, ready to grow a new moon globe to replace the one he had taken.

“Next, I have here a group of Nightwings who have volunteered to answer any questions you might have about the village and its history!  Feel free to ask them any questions you may have!”  Deathbringer continued.

The Nightwings came over to greet the students and began answering questions.  As the members of the Crazy-Lace winglet began interviewing the Nightwings, they would sneakily bring up questions about Dreamweaver, however, nobody seemed to know anything.  As Heron was observing, she suddenly had an idea, and walked over to Desertglass.

“Any luck yet, Desertglass?”  She asked.

“No, sadly nobody seems to know anything.  I mean, it makes sense.  A lot of Nightwing history was lost to time over the years.  They forgot how their own powers worked for a while, and I assume Dreamweaver was alive in a part of history that was ancient even before they moved to the volcano island.  Most likely, nobody here will know anything.  I can only hope that whatever Nightshade has planned for us tonight, that it might at least help us find some kind of information about Dreamweaver or the Prophecy.”

“Well, that's just the thing,” Heron inquired, “I was thinking about it, and what if we don't need to ask about the information, and if it's lost and we need to find it?  So that got me thinking, if your magic compass can find lost treasure and lost artifacts, could it maybe also find lost information?  Or lost history?  Just a thought.”

Desertglass stopped, astounded, “You know what?  I never even thought of that!  This thing seems to have a mind of its own sometimes, but always seems to lead me to exactly what I need to find!  Maybe it knows we are looking for information and can help us find it!  Ill try it out!”

“Should I gather the others?”  Heron asked, excitedly.

“No, I wouldn't.  The professor wouldn't let the whole winglet wander off on a wild goose chase, but he may not notice if me and you sneak off for a bit.  First, I will have to see where the compass wants to take us, because if it's some far away territory, we won't be able to go at all.”  Desertglass pulled out the compass, “take me on an adventure, please.” He asked.  The bone needle in the center spun for a moment, then settled on one direction, and the green gem lit up.

“Ok, that's good news.  Wherever it's taking us is within the rainforest.”

“So, what now?”  Heron asked, curiously.

“We will follow it to wherever it's taking us and hopefully find something useful.  But we will have to be quick before they notice we are gone.”

“Awesome!  Let's go find some answers!”

Desertglass and Heron sneakily broke off from the group and headed into the forest.  The compass led them deeper and deeper into the woods.  The overgrowth became thicker and harder to traverse the further they got from the village.  Eventually, when they thought they may not be able to go any further, they came to a clearing.  The clearing looked very intentional, the grass around it was very neat and clean.  It was completely empty except for a single tree stump in the center.  Desertglass and Heron approached it.

“That's weird, it has a talon print scratched into the top of it.”  Heron observed, noting the crude talon shape that was scraped into the top of the tree trunk.

Desertglass held the compass near the tree trunk, and the pink pearl at the front lit up.  “Oh my.  Whatever this is, its animus-touched.”  Desertglass explained.

“Magic?  How can you tell?”

“Thats what it means when the pearl lights up.  I think… I feel weirdly compelled to try something…”  He trailed off.  Desertglass took the talon he wasnt using to hold the compass and placed it on the talon print on the tree stump.

Suddenly, the green gem on the compass flashed a brilliant bright color.  Desertglass shivered, and colors of green and purple flashed through his scales.  The talon print on the stump lit up green to match the compass, and suddenly, a room materialized around them out of nowhere.  A wooden floor, then walls, then a ceiling.  As soon as the process finished,  Desertglass dropped the compass on the ground and flinched away,  his eyes wide with fear.

“That-  that felt so wrong!  It was so weird!  It was like my scales were wrong, as if they didn't belong to me!  Like I was the wrong dragon!  Agghhh!”

He set his satchel on the ground, grabbed a twig that was laying next to the stump, and used it to prod the compass back into the satchel without having to touch it with his own talons.  He gingerly put the satchel back on, still looking incredibly concerned.

“What happened?  What do you mean you were the wrong Dragon?  Has it ever done that before?”  Heron asked in a concerned tone.

“Its never acted like that before!  It has seemed almost more alive after Nightshade gave me the Nightwing gem, but that felt a little TOO alive!  It's like I was possessed or something!”

“Wait, what do you mean Nightshade gave you the Nightwing gem?  Why did he have it?”

“He told me it was passed down through his family to him, in hopes that they would someday recover the compass.  He said one of his ancestors created it.”

“Huh, that's convenient that he happened to join Jade Mountain Academy at the same time as you, and you just happened to have his missing compass.  And that Shadowhunter had those dreams about Dreamweaver now.  And that the compass seems to be connected to Dreamweaver.  Pretty good luck, huh?”

“Huh… I guess so…”

“Hey, what's that?”  Heron was distracted by a single table on one side of the room.  On the table was a scroll case made from a bamboo stalk.  She picked it up. “Property of Bluebonnet.”  She read off the side of the case.

“What is that?”  Desertglass asked.

“Lets see,” Heron opened the end of the case and gently slid an old looking scroll out of it.  She unrolled it to the first entry and read it aloud.

“Hello, Dragons of the future!  I want to start off by saying that if you are reading this, I am probably long dead.  I am Bluebonnet, the only Rainwing Animus, and I am an artist!  I have travelled the whole continent gathering artistic inspiration from each tribe and have noted it all here in my journal.  I hope someday a future artist will find my notes and put them to good use!  If that artist is you, then congratulations, you now hold the artistic history of Pyrrhia in your talons!  I hope my notes can be of great inspiration to you!”

“Woah.  That is… super random?  Huh, I thought this would give us some information on Dreamweaver.  What do the other segments say?  Maybe there is a clue hidden within it somewhere?”

Heron began unrolling the scroll further, skimming through different entries.

“Entry two:  The Mud Kingdom.  The Mudwings have surprisingly beautiful art!  Their styles are very earthy and natural!  They also have an abundance of pottery.  I should have known, they have the perfect minerals to make sculptures and pottery all around them!  It's amazing!”  Heron smiled, perusing the sketched examples of ancient Mudwing pottery styles, “Desertglass, this is amazing!  This is exactly what I was looking for!  It's perfect historical information!  I could make such beautiful artwork on my sculptures using this as a reference!  Your compass really does know what it's doing!”

“Huh, I guess it does!  Now that I think about it, the compass usually leads me to treasure that benefits whoever I am searching with or for.  That's great!”

“Ill check the Night kingdom entry to see if there is any information about Dreamweaver,”  Heron added, “Entry four:  The Night Kingdom.  Nightwings are so secretive and mysterious, it's a good thing the enchantment I used to make everyone believe my lack-luster disguises is working, I'm sure the Nightwings would not appreciate a Rainwing infiltrating their kingdom!  But it's for a good cause!  The Nightwings have some interesting forms of art that vary greatly in appearance.  During my stay, a pair of Seawings came to visit for some reason?  They seemed particularly interested in one specific Nightwing dragonet.  He created a few odd things, seemingly from thin air.  I guess the Nightwings have an Animus now.  That is certainly interesting.  I have seen him create some very odd things, a set of three dark crystal star things.  Not sure what they are for, but he kept one and gave the other two to his friends it would seem.  He also made a weird telescope looking contraption with an hourglass attached to it.  Once again, not sure what its for, but I have included drawings of it along with the gems just for fun.”  heron observed the drawings with a shiver.

“Well, I guess Bluebonnet met Darkstalker, those are things he enchanted.  The Dreamvisitors and the Soul Reader.  Thats fascinating.”

“It does not end there,” Heron added, and continued reading the entry, “today I witnessed a funeral.  It was quite fascinating, and quite sad.  An albino Nightwing dragonet.  I've never seen anything like him before.  All Nightwings I have observed are dark as shadows, but this dragonet was a white color as bright as a shooting star!  I wonder how that even happened!  From what I hear, he got away from his parents, and got lost in the town square.  He was apparently killed by guards who mistook him for an Icewing invader.  He was so small, I can't imagine how they even thought he was an invader, but I can understand them mistaking him for an Icewing.”

“Wow, that is really sad,” commented Desertglass, “Albino Nightwing, huh?  Must be rare, I don't remember hearing about anyone like him in any history scrolls ive read.  Then again, I haven't read all the history scrolls.  Ill have to do more research into that sometime.”

“Wait, there is one more addition to this entry,”  Heron said, “Update:  I am currently fleeing the Night Kingdom.  Oh moons, that little Nightwing Animus is insane!  Everyone is running away.  I just watched an Icewing publicly disembowel himself on stage, it was disgusting!  That little Animus is evil, I have to escape before he finds me!  Oh moons, I hope he can be stopped!  He is too powerful, he could destroy the world if he wanted!”

Heron and Desertglass looked at each other nervously.

“Well… That was unpleasant…” Desertglass commented, “Well, if Dreamweaver was before Darkstalker’s time, then that means Bluebonnet was not around to see him.  It's… Probably not worth digging for more info right now…”

“We should probably head back,” Heron suggested, “We don't want everyone noticing we are gone, right?”

“Yes, thats a good idea…”

Desertglass and Heron then headed back to the Nightwing village, still unsettled from what they had seen and experienced at Bluebonnet’s hideout.  They met up with the rest of their winglet and continued in the tour of the village.  For the rest of the day, however, Heron could not seem to get her mind off of the things she had seen.  It was not just the mystery of Bluebonnet’s art journal and her invisible hideout, but also what the compass had done to Desertglass.  It was so freaky!

That night, everyone returned to the meeting spot.  After the other fell asleep, the members of the Crazy-Lace winglet gathered out of earshot of the other sleeping dragons.  As the other members began discussing anything they had heard that day that may pertain to Dreamweaver, Heron unrolled the scroll again to glance over it some more.  She decided to unroll it to the final entry to see if there was any kind of conclusive message at the end.  However, what she found was much more disturbing.  As she read more and more of the journal’s final entry, her eyes grew wide, and she gasped in horror.  She dashed over to where Desertglass was talking to Nightshade as fast as she could.

“So, Desertglass.  I noticed you and Heron went on a little field trip of your own.  Did you use the compass?  Did it lead to anything that might give a clue?”

“Well, it was quite interesting.  It lead to the hideout of an old Rainwing Animus named Bluebonnet.”

“Bluebonnet, you say?”  Nightshade asked with a curious tone, “I didn't know the Rainwings ever had an Animus.  That is very fascinating indeed!”

“Yeah, it was super weird!  We were walking along and found this clearing and-”

Heron arrived at that moment, and interrupted Desertglass in a hurry, “Oh, uh- yeah!  We just found an old cabin!  Nothing of note, nothing pertaining to the mystery at all!”

Desertglass gave her a curious look, and Nightshade spoke up, “But what is that scroll case you have there?  Was that in the old cabin you speak of?”

“Oh!  Yes!  This is just Bluebonnet’s art journal, nothing important here!  Well, nothing important to the mystery, that is!  Just some art history!  I kept it so I could study it to improve my pottery!  That's all, nothing worth noting about Dreamweaver!”

“Hmmm… ok then.  Meet me over here in about five minutes, ill tell everyone my plan if it turns out that nobody found anything else.”  Nightshade walked off, glancing back at them one more time as he went.  Heron grabbed Desertglass and pulled him aside as soon as they were alone.

“What was all that about?”  Desertglass asked.

“The final entry.  Its insane!  Its horrible!  And I get the feeling we shouldn't tell everyone about it just yet.  If anyone asks, this is nothing more than an art journal; with no important information, ok?”

“If you say so.  Then what does the final entry say?”

Heron nervously unrolled the scroll, reading the last entry in a hushed, shaky voice, “This will be my final entry.  I don't know how, but I was discovered.  It's like he was targeting me specifically!  He has me trapped on an island, a lone little island far from any other land in the middle of the ocean.  All that is here is a giant hollowed out tree and a bunch of pedestals.  I don't know exactly what he wants, but considering a few of these pedestals have rotting corpses on them, I have a very bad feeling I won't be around to see whatever it is.  If I had to guess, He wants me for my magic.  I recognize two of the corpses around the tree, one is that poor Icewing who disemboweled himself in the Night kingdom, and the other is one of the Seawings who visited that crazy Nightwing Animus dragonet.  Both of them were Animus dragons, but why are they here?  Why is this mysterious dragon seemingly collecting dead Animus dragons?  It makes no sense to me.  But if he winds up being crazy like that little Nightwing, I have only one idea of what could be done:  He always carries around a strange compass device.  It has seven different colored gems embedded into the top, along with a pink pearl.  It also has a kind of metal band around the outside, with a triangular gem sticking out either side of it.  He carries it constantly, and I have seen him use it to activate some kind of hidden power inside the tree.  I don't know exactly what it does, but it seems like it holds some kind of power.  If it can be taken from him, he may be able to be stopped.  I hope that if worse comes to worse, that whoever finds this journal can use this information to stop him.  Oh moons, he's coming back!  I leave you with this:  GET THE COMPASS AWAY FROM HIM AT ALL COSTS!  IT'S THE ONLY HOPE!  I enchant this scroll to return to my home in the rainforest.”

“Wow… that is… certainly some information..”  Desertglass was stunned, nearly speechless.  “Its a good thing that was 2000 years ago!  Whoever that evil guy was is definitely dead, and we have the compass now, so evidently someone was able to successfully steal the compass from whoever that was.  Wait a minute.  The compass is related to Dreamweaver.  Dreamweaver existed in ancient times way before Bluebonnet’s time.  But he was an Animus as well…”

“As an Animus, he could have extended his life… You don't think…” Heron began to put the pieces together.

“Shadowhunter told me the other day that he thought he saw Dreamweaver carving the compass in one of his dreams…”

“He could have used his magic to keep himself alive this whole time…”

“The prophecy… Shadowhunter’s dreams of disasters…”

“What if…”

Desertglass looked genuinely freaked out, “Someone stole the compass from him and stopped him in the past!  But he could be using his magic to contact us, to give a fake prophecy.  What if this is all a scheme for him to get the compass back!  It could be a trap!”

Heron was starting to freak out as well now, “if Dreamweaver really is alive and gets the compass back, who knows what he could do?!”

“We need to solve this mystery once and for all, maybe we can find a way to stop him permanently!  Maybe whoever stopped him the first time left a hint, a way we could deal with him once and for all!”

“I didn't think about that before!”  Heron pondered for a moment, “Maybe we should tell the others.”

“I agree, they may be able to help give some insight, or help us find clues!”

Heron and Desertglass agreed.  They rejoined the group and explained everything noted in the final entry of the journal.  Everyone was astounded.

“Im sorry I didn't share this information right away,”  Heron explained, “It made me nervous, but after some insight from Desertglass, I believe it's the right thing to do.  If Dreamweaver really is trying to trick us into getting the compass back, we need all the help we can get to find out how to stop him.”

“That-  that's crazy!”  Shadowhunter was pacing nervously, “All those dreams I had!  They seemed so ominous!  Like a disaster was coming!”

“Well, if Dreamweaver is really alive and trying to get the compass back, he could have used his magic to craft those dreams to scare you into doing what he wanted,”  Nightshade pondered, “We need to figure out what this whole mystery means, especially if it could lead us to find a way to stop him once and for all.  And I believe my plan may be able to help with that.”  Nightshade turned to Viperfish, “You said there was a hatch door in that underwater cave, right?  But it was locked, the compass almost fit the lock but not exactly?”

“It's true,”  Viperfish explained, “The general shape of the compass was correct and fit the lock, but it looked like there were two pieces missing, so it couldn't unlock the hatch.”

Nightshade turned back to the group, “Something Heron mentioned earlier really got me thinking, and the description of the compass at the end of Bluebonnet’s journal confirms my theory I believe.  Spindle, may Desertglass borrow your armband please?”

Spindle removed the armband and gave it to Desertglass.  Heron could see it in Desertglass’s eyes, he realized what he had to do before Nightshade even said it.

“Put them together, complete the compass,”  Nightshade said

Desertglass slid the metal band over the compass.  It clicked neatly into place around the outside of the compass.  All the gems lit up with a bright, brilliant light.  The compass was finally whole again for real.  Desertglass stared at it with wonder in his eyes.

“Let's put this mystery to rest once and for all!”  exclaimed Nightshade.  He turned to Viperfish and smiled, “It's time for us to open the hatch!”

Updates/notes:

Here we are. One main chapter to go until book 1 is complete! I am very excited for the future of this fanfic!

Chapter 10 probably won’t take too long to release, I’ve had its plot brewing in my head for months now!

I also decided that after chapter 10 releases, I’m going to drop one extra “epilogue” chapter! Books 2-5 of crazy lace will also a have prolouge and an epilogue. Book 1 didn’t have a prolouge because I was just starting as a publishing author and because there was not setting for a prolouge to take place in.

Some crazy things coming up! All the adventures thus far have lead to this point. I can’t wait to get chapter 10 ready, it’s gonna be awesome! As always, thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy CLW!

Poll / Question Hey, sub tourist here. Could wof be the right book series for me?

Upvotes

Hello everyone, i hope this post finds you well. I'm a 20 year old fan of fantasy, dragons and fandom culture and i was wondering if this series could fit someone me. I really don't mind media aimed at younger folk as long as it doesn't look down on its audience and if the worldbuilding and characters are good. i have no experience with the series whatsoever but thought it might be a good time to give it a try! Any recommendations for how to engage with the franchise (order of books, other related media, when to enter the fandom, things like that) would be highly appreciated. Thank yall in advance!

Poll / Question Update on the poll

Hi again,

I have been running a poll for the past two weeks, trying my best to get demographical data on this subreddit. This poll will be up for another 2 weeks, and this post will serve as the halfway point marker. There has been a substantial decline in respondants in the poll approximately three days after posting the original announcement, so it is my hope that by making this one the frequency of responses may return as to when i started this project. Unfortunately for me, the people who were to take interest in the poll have already seen the first post and would not add anything. Nevertheless, all responses count. I promise they dont take long.

Headcanon / Theory What do yall think of Moonbi kids?

Meet Slatewriter, the youngest of Moon & Qibli’s dragonets. He hatched on the brightest night, giving him the same level of nightwing power as Darkstalker, however instead of getting normal venom, his tail produces a powerful neurotoxin that sends other dragons into either a panic due to what they see, or they get stunlocked. He was born blind so the only way he can see is through his visions, but that’s not very useful to someone who’s never seen the world. He also aided in the creation of the dragon version of braille (carving the letters into a hard surface to leave a dent that can be felt)

Personally I have none of them, and only found out they existed thanks to the link below. I know some people may have multiple valid answers to this poll, unfortunately for me I cannot make you choose more than 1, so just choose the rarest one you have.
