Hey all, I'm taking a shot in the dark here. I am in a season ticket group and have 7 or so games this year, 2 seats in the lower bowl. I find myself suddenly single (ok, it's not that sudden) and looking for mates to go to games with each time one comes up seems like a daunting task. Anybody have interest in the second seat since I'm officially not big enough for 2?

I know there are lots of things one would want to know in making this decision: I'm a middle aged white woman and American. I usually just drive up, go to the game and drive home. I took as many Saturday or Sunday early games as I could. I talk too much and most of it is swearing. It doesn't matter that you don't speak English and do not want to be my friend, I will talk to you until to tell me graphically you don't want to talk to me. Even about the Jets, Dancing Gabe or that Canada has generally superlative snacks and food. I have 3 minutes before I have back to back client calls, so I'll prep my game list and what each game would cost should some other singular soul want to come to some games and end up sitting by me. Pardon The Interruption hosts roast Hellebuyck’s request for a trade 2 years into his contract.

Buffalo Sabres

Much of the conversation around potential landing spots for Hellebuyck has centered around Buffalo, and for good reason. The Sabres should be considered a frontrunner. They took a huge step forward in 2025-26, snapping a 14-year playoff drought. It was largely fueled by a top-five scoring attack, but they also received surprisingly steady goaltending from Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Alex Lyon, who combined to give them the third-highest team save percentage in the NHL.

It’s fair to wonder if the duo can repeat that in 2026-27. Luukkonen’s four full seasons in the NHL have bounced between stellar and disappointing, and Lyon’s career has been equally uneven.

With the talent the Sabres have at forward and on the blue line, Hellebuyck would instantly make them a top contender in the East. We’ve only seen Hellebuyck play behind a top-five scoring team twice in his career, and in both instances he led the NHL in wins. In 2017-18, he finished runner-up for the Vezina and led Winnipeg to the conference finals. In 2024-25, he helped the Jets win the Presidents’ Trophy and walked away with the Vezina and Hart trophies.

Buffalo’s salary cap situation is another reason to believe it’s a top landing spot. The Sabres still have $6.9 million in space, which is already nearly enough to fit Hellebuyck’s $8.5 million cap hit. If the Jets took Luukkonen back in a trade, it would clear another $4.75 million, leaving plenty of room. The Sabres also have a plethora of top-six forwards they could send Winnipeg’s way, including Josh Norris and Ryan McLeod, giving this potential trade a real chance.

Vegas Golden Knights

Rarely does a star player hit the trade market without the Golden Knights being mentioned in some capacity. Vegas has made multiple blockbuster trades over the last nine seasons, with several being under similar circumstances: a player unhappy in their current location.

General manager Kelly McCrimmon has made it clear that he’s happy with his current goalie tandem of Carter Hart and Adin Hill, but it doesn’t mean he won’t change his mind if the right opportunity presents itself. Neither Hart nor Hill was particularly impressive in the regular season, with the team ranking near the bottom of the league in save percentage and goals saved above expected. Hart was excellent in the playoffs, sans a poor ending in the Cup Final, and Hill has shown he is good enough to lead the team to a title, but Hellebuyck is obviously another tier of goalie entirely.

What makes this option particularly intriguing is the stylistic fit. Hellebuyck is a positional goalie who reads the play incredibly well and thrives in structure. Meanwhile, the Golden Knights defend with arguably the best structure in the NHL. They employ a zone defense that does an exceptional job of keeping the puck out of the high-danger areas and allows predictable shots. It’s why they led the league with the fewest high-danger chances and expected goals against last season.

i have no desire for draft picks, since we can assume Buffalo's picking in the bottom half of the first round for the next few years.

Is Rudolph, for example, too high of an ask from Buffalo? Guessing his ceiling's a 1st line D-man.

I think a top 3 D and two middle-six forwards is reasonable (one winger, one C)

I was born and raised in Winnipeg for 35 plus years. We have seen our team come and go and come back again.

With the current goalie situation, does this matter? We have always been gritty and have had what it takes to make the playoffs but Helle hasn’t always shown up in them.

Is this a huge blow or a boon for the line up?

In yesterday’s IC Morning Papers I speculated that Altona’s Cole Kehler, who played three games for the Moose in 2021, could get the call.

Turns out that speculation was correct.

The Altona Maroons announced on Instagram today that Kehler has been selected to serve as the EBUG for the Winnipeg Jets this season, which also means the Maroons will be looking for a new goalie coach. One goaltending question in Winnipeg has been answered, at least.

Put your Chevy cap on and cook up some mock trades! This is going to be one of the biggest trades of the 21st century. There's nothing really to benchmark it against but a Hellebuyck trade cannot go for any less than Brady Tkachuk costed Florida.

Also, when Hellebuyck comes back to Winnipeg, are you booing him? Did he tarnish his legacy.

Did anyone else get totally bummed when the public sale tickets when up today and there were only 15 individual seats around the arena? I ended up getting some resale tickets that I had originally looked at last night that were almost 20% more this morning.

Is it viable for the jets gm to just keep hellebuyck for the remainder of his contract? Keep him as a backup or third string goalie (even though the contract is terrible)

By the end of the contract he’d be pushing 37-38 and would most likely fall off a good bit.

I understand a terrible contract that provides no value needs to be moved but could the jets potentially ever just ride out his contract as a big “F U” to helle?

I understand that this would make the contract one of the worst in the league, but would a gm even consider pulling that move? Is it viable?

ESPN must think that Helle will still be on the team.
