How much do we know about Multi-player?
Hello fellow future players, I just have a quick question about the multiplayer aspect of the game! I know the devs have already mentioned that there will be multiplayer in the game (1-4 players), but I wanna know about the “host player” and how playing works with them.
Will it be like in Minecraft, where the “host” player is the only one that can open the world and if they are not online playing in the world then others cannot access the world (Without paying for a server pass)? Or will it be that even if the “host” player isn’t online on Witchbrook the other players can still access the shared world?

Visiting other players sounds like Animal crossing where you visit other players' islands.

Are the only Xbox players who'll get to do multi have to have gamepass

I dont think the devs decide this. The way it works on consoles usually is that if the game costs money then they're forced by the platform to use the subscription service.

Yeah just that being how it is stops me from being able to enjoy it co op is all. Not a big deal though, I got co op games. Its just a goofy thing for the whoever to do, it makes me not even want to get the game when I could play free games co op online for free.

Yeah it sucks, especially with how pricey the online services are now.

They said you'd have to have Xbox Live to play online yes

If it’s on the PlayStation or Switches, you’ll need their appropriate paid online service too if you want to play multiplayer on those platforms.
Unless there is some sort of split screen co-op. But most of these companies have ditched that in favor of forcing players into their paid online service.

I always wonder why free games have free online services but paid games don't. That's a big deal for me I wanted to play with my friends online they all live apart from each other so local co op is a no but idk how much fun I'll have by my lonesome.

The “free to pay” games make more money for the platform holders because the they get a cut of all the micro transactions.
Putting a paywall in front of that had shown they actually prevented massive revenue streams.

Ohhhhhh yeah that makes sense. I would often decide to buy in free games too because of various reasons. Most of them have their own monthly whichamacallit and I'd get one of those usually 5mo. But I haven't done that since I walked my hours down at work. But yeah I justify more spending in the free games based on how they present themselves and the promise of continued growth. Honestly I think I've just shifted to that kind of gaming over the years. But I do want to see what witchbrook is like.. Idk.

They have not answered much about multiplayer. We know there are up to four players, and they did mention players "visiting" so I am still not 100% sure if friends can visit your solo save file or if they mean each player on a shared save file has their own house that can't be edited by the other player. I can't imagine it would be very easy for two "solo" players to visit each other because of the progression of the game but who knows. They also said something interesting in the Q&A section about running the business with multiplayer:
"you run your witch business together in multiplayer, which means that you can take on different roles within it. For example, one person could craft/cook/bake things to sell at the Sunday market (is that announced??) and the other person could take on Tarot readings, or delivering the homemade items made by the other player."

Honestly I’m a little skeptical about it now which is unfortunate as multiplayer will vastly decide how much I want this game.
It’s clearly got a bit of a story aspect to it, if it ends up being just visiting or only XYZ is available in multiplayer I think it would drastically decrease my interest.
I’m not a huge fan of stardew valley, but one thing that I love about it, is the way that the multiplayer makes all players feel equally relevant within the designated story sections. It’s cute seeing everyone at a festival together, or being addressed as a group, rather than just each individual player getting a scene or something on their own. For some reason I was under the impression that they showed off the lot in multiplayer and it had houses for everyone with a shared yard. But maybe I was mistaken
If there’s a scene that involves the player character having to rush out to investigate a noise in the middle of the night, I want to be able to see my character run outside only to be greeted by friends also running outside and share a glance before investigating together.
Even if it means something like all players have to take the same classes and all pass or something like that

One player owns the world, so yes there is a host.
