"It's been 84 years, and I can still remember the smell of the fresh paint on my switch 1 I was playing when the game was first announced".

Why did they say it was gonna be released last year? it seems like they’re not close even now😭

They said it will be released in 2019 the first time. Those devs are lazy af

Because either 1. They were lying and never had any interest in releasing it or 2. Were actually going to release this game in pitiful state

Or 3. They greatly underestimated the amount of work they had to do, and made a mistake announcing a release date they couldn't meet.
If they hadn't wanted to release it, they wouldn't still be working on it. And if they had wanted to release it in a "pitiful state", they would have done that.
Not everything has to be attributed to malice or greed. As a developer myself, game development is HARD, and it's very easy to miss your goals. Their mistake was to announce a release date they couldn't meet, that's all.
GTA 6 was delayed twice, but nobody accused Rockstar of not wanting to release the game, or wanting to release it in a pitiful state. They just made a mistake announcing a date they couldn't uphold, and they're one of the biggest game developers in the world.

You shouldn't need 10+ years for a game like witchcraft, especially if a team is working on it. And you definitely can't compare the development complexity to gta6...

At no point did I compare the development complexity of Witchbrook to the one of GTA6. Please try to read what is written when you answer to a comment. That's the polite way of doing things.
My point was that even one of the largest developer in the world can fuck up when announcing a release date. And yet, nobody accused them of lying, or wanting to release the game in a bad state. So why accuse the developers of Witchbrook of that?

Are you sure that nobody accused them of anything? CD projekt red was so scared of missing their deadline a third time that they released Cyberpunk 2077 completely broken just to not disappoint fans/stop the threats, after they had announced 2 delays already. Pragmata had 3 delays and also received backlash, on the third delay they just put "?" as the release date, which is what Chucklefish should've done instead of stringing people along.

How can you overestimate by that much? Have these people never developed a game before?

u/Maximelene 15d ago
Have you?
The simplest answer is that, once you've announced a release date, you cannot consider adding/changing mechanics. Once you realize the date you announced couldn't be met, and you switch back to "later", you can also take time to do a bit more time consuming work, instead of only focusing on finishing what you already have.
Developing a game isn't a linear process, with clearly defined "phases" you can use to gauge your process. Every element goes back and forth between different states, and every single game is different from every other one. Having already developed a game doesn't mean you'll know what time it will take to actually develop the next one.

Because they hoped they could. When you announce a release date in advance, it's basically a "We think we can be done at this date". It's very easy to be proven wrong though.

A distraction most likely, in order to buy time.
The way this whole thing has been going on, I'm not convinced this game will be even half of what they claim it will be.
And this is coming from someone who forgot it existed for years and came back recently to check what was going on.
It really doesn't help that they changed it to an isometric design, which gives micro-transaction laiden mobile game vibes for me. I keep expecting to see flash sales for outfits and furniture to flash up on the screenshots.
The way it looked before they restarted was nicer, but thats personal preference.

Yeah great I’m so glad they’re pushing these updates and not just telling us it’s not coming until next year

I have given up on this game lmao .

Same. If and when this releases I'll just be playing Moonlight peaks or Mistria instead. Heck I might be playing Hogwarts Legacy 2 which will probably come out before this.

This is such a ridiculously long delay to release a game like this. I can understand a delay of a year or two, but it feels like they arent really doing anything on it, or they burned all their funding and cant admit it.

at this point, what are the odds we actually see this game this year?
1
u/Blue_Starkiller 11d ago
Considering we have 4 months left in the year and no release date. Fall would be the best time to release a witch themed cozy game so they need to announce a release date for September/October or just shadow drop it, both of which seem unlikely.

Great but honestly I'm just gonna be excited once they have a date announce? Early access or something..you know
