PoE2 Discussion Is Tecrod Dead?

Was wondering what happened to him.

Or was he really dead just to upscale Arbiter of Divinity in terms of powerscaling.

It wouldn't be the first time that he returned from destruction. See Tecrod's Revenge:

The Lich Lords destroyed his body, but with his dying fury, Tecrod found a way. He lurks deep, in the blood, in the flesh, in the Well... perhaps walking among them even now, unseen.

"Somehow, Tecrod returned."

Likely not. Since he was released from his prison his soul can wander.

My guess is that when 1.0 lands or after who knows they may change the story so that he is the big bad now. In poe1 the Shaper was the main boss when the atlas was first introduced and two or three leagues after the story changed to make the Elder the main boss

The Shaper, since his release, was explained to be Zana's father and players since then had to collect his memories and fight him in order to bring them back to him "in act of great violence" as Zana used to say.

The fact that Elder shortly after was made the bigger threat didn't change Valdo's story, only expanded it. Same will happen to Tecrod, as he will be one of the main bosses for some time, and if infinite world map stays, he will be the main boss for Abyss until Kulemak enters the world.

I would say no. His physical form was destroyed but, since he is an abyssal his soul just goes back to The Well.

That’s why he was stuck the device we find him in. It was probably some sort of trap meant to hold higher tier abyssal beings like Lich Lords. The only way to “permanently” defeat them is to lock them in a box where they can’t do anything and can’t die/kill themselves so they can’t ghost their way back to The Well.

He’ll probably come back in a future league with a new body.

The thing about Liches, traditionally speaking, is that the destruction of their bodies is only a temporary setback. It's possible that the divine energy of the Arbiter outright annihilated him, but if it were that simple surely they'd never have bothered with imprisonment in the first place. We can safely assume his soul has returned to the Well.

On the other hand, given... well, everything we've heard about Tecrod, it's likely that Kulemak won't even bother giving him a second chance. He may well be trapped down there forever if he doesn't find his own way out.

No. Jonathon said there was supposed to be a different story how the Arbiter of Divinity was not the final boss actually, but it felt weird without the other boss being ready, so they had to alter it last minute. I expect in 1.0 this might change the cutscene and Tecrod could become a pinnacle encounter. If not Tecrod, then the First Divine.

Being a lich, wouldn’t he just go back to the deepest bowel of the pit? It wasn’t clear that the arbiter of divinity killed him in any significant way, just wanted to take what he held.

We don't know. The mechanisms by which the Abyss Liches are preserved, their ability to return after destruction, and their relationship with Divinity are all not really detailed.
Unless specified elsewhere, my presumption is he's dead, and Divinity is opposed to the Necromantic Energy of the Abyss.
