They have said in no uncertain terms that they are done with X-Com.

Some of the dudes who made xcom made the new Star Wars zero hour game and it’s pretty good so far. It’s not xcom but the gameplay and hub system hold up. 8.5/10. About 4-5 hours in

XCOM3 is actively in development. Whether or not it makes it out is another question.

Really? By whom?

By Firaxis, they’re not letting go of their IP. Jake’s team isn’t there, but studios own games not developers, for better or for worse.

Friend playtested a very early version last year.

I don't wanna be a pain, but do you have anything other than "my friend played it?" Cuz thats some playground level sourcing.

Nope, you don’t really walk out of playtests with things to show for them, other than an NDA.

I can tell you there’ll be a third faction, but that’s up in the air like the whole game is.

It’s okay if you don’t want to believe me, hopefully time vindicates me.

I guess ask yourself. With how popular XCOM is and seeing other studios chase the tactical game formula, why would Firaxis/Take-Two just ditch the IP entirely? That doesn’t sound like a game company that wants money.

Right. The game is SO popular that multiplayer queue times are incredibly short, yes?

Not. The game's not as popular as you might think

u/mayasux 1h ago

Judging a largely single player games popularity whether or not it’s multiplayer is active ten years later is a take.

absolute bullshit

If the game was released in 3 years your statement would still be bullshit

1

u/mayasux 9h ago

And why is that? And why are you so pressed over this

0

u/Frosty_Sea3307 9h ago

Because you're straight up lying about this supposed ''friend'' lol

0

u/mayasux 9h ago

That’s weird, that you somehow know my intentions?

I’m not lying, you just don’t believe me. There is a world of difference and it’s weird that your first instinct is that I’m lying. I have nothing to gain from that.

It's not a legend.

Everyone knows that there won't be an XCom 3.

Jake Solomon was responsible for the 2 games we got and he doesn't work at Firaxis anymore...so, at MOST, we can hope for a reboot from someone competent.

It's far more likely that we'll get an indie dev that creates something that RANDOMLY fills that XCom void.

Never believe marketing hype that a game is like XCom...because, chances are, they mean "uses a tactical grid" and nothing else.

u/DognBass 13h ago

Yeah, it's made it's mark and we have so many games influenced by it now. Someone will pick up the IP in another 20 years like they did in 2012 and hopefully give us something as great and innovative as the previous iterations were. I do hope the next iteration gives us bigger squads like we had back in 94

2

u/Outlaw11091 13h ago

There's a mod for that.

I use "larger long war of the chosen" and it gives me 16-man squads (and bulks up alien pod sizes to match).

2

u/DognBass 13h ago

Aye, I know, I phrased my want badly. The original game was built around having larger deployments, more enemies at once, larger maps etc. At least it felt that way at the time.

The small squad size fits XCom 2's narrative, being a rebel insurgency. It didn't sit will for me in XCom 2012 but I came to it remembering one of the best set of games from my childhood where you could go out in late game and match the enemy force as well as being able to deploy vehicles. Makes sense that a defense force would be able to do that and would want to do that where possible when facing an invasion.

Valve Games aside, i doubt any third game of those would be as good, Titanfall 3 and Destiny 3 I'm almost sure would be utter dogshit

Division 3 had been in confirmed development for a bit now. With 2 getting new dlc and updates ever since they rebuilt the dev team. The plan was originally to end development after the few planed manhunt seasons when warlords expansion released. But it regained traction and the devs came back.

Division 3 is in active Development and confirmed by Ubisoft

If you don't count Chimera Squad, you're looking at a long wait. That game was going to be #3, but Firaxis rushed it out because of their internal problems. They dumped the property out on the market while they could! Now, the former Firaxis devs are using XCom's combat system in other games for other companies ("ZCom") and getting away with it. Don't count on seeing a number three until the rights to the property change hands at least once.

I'm sorry, but Chimera Squad is the closest thing we're going to see to an XCom3 for decades to come.
